I am skeptical about his "first manga about rock" claim. I know for a fact that there are already Maud Pie doujins.

Also, Jesus Christ, the Youtube comments.

How long until he shows up here?

American Standard - 2015-05-16
Oh, he is BEYOND full of shit. There are tons of rock music mangas, and he knows it, because he rips off the art from them, MSpaints over the speech bubbles with his own scripting, and calls them his own.

He's been called on it a hundred times, he's a regular on r/shittykickstarters. I think he's tried to hold four or five projects, not including his erased Indiegogo and a gofundme.

When he's caught, he just replaces the stolen art he was called on with... more stolen art. He's utterly bizarre. I wish he were more prolific.

Well now I want to know everything about this guy.

Googling 'rock steady wesley idowu' turns up a path of destruction a mile wide. He's dropped a few turds on every publishing site with a submissions process, including Amazon Kindle.

Sounds like Gene Simmons' no-good son.

Old_Zircon - 2015-05-17
Sounds like Gene Simmons' better son.

Mangaka sounds awfully similar to malaka.
Caminante Nocturno - 2015-05-16
Malaka wins.

Fatality.

If there were anything in this world that justifies the use of the "blerd" tag, this is it.
oddeye - 2015-05-16
Monga?? Have I been saying it wrong or something? How come I never hear "japanimation" anymore?
misterbuns - 2015-05-16
because it isnt 1995

fluffy - 2015-05-17
"Monga" is the correct pronunciation.

EvilHomer - 2015-05-17
No it's not, surely! "ま" is pronounced "mä", with a soft 'a' sound (as in "father"), not an o. I think Mr Idowu knows this, and is trying to pronounce it with a soft 'a', but his voice is a bit weird and Mr Oddeye, being a Brit, has an understandably difficult time

How do you pronounce "manga", oddeye? Whom do you speak to, that you used to hear the term "japanimation"?.

oddeye - 2015-05-17
MAN-GA is the only way I've heard it said and japanimation I've only really heard at the midnight manga movie on Sci-Fi back when we first got Sky TV in like 1999

EvilHomer - 2015-05-17
Oh, well, Sky TV. There you go, that explains it. Of course they're going to be using the wrong words and mispronouncing everything.

I think the main reason why few people say "japanimation" anymore is because "japanimation" was a relatively modern Western neologism ("Japan" + "animation"), coined for a time when anime was sill unfamiliar to most people, and technical terms like "anime" or "manga" would have been confusing to general audiences. Nowadays, almost everyone's heard of anime, so they just stick with the proper term.

EvilHomer - 2015-05-17
... although really, arguing about the "proper" way to pronounce a word is a bit silly. *In Japanese*, yes, there is a "proper" way of pronouncing the word "manga". But you are not Japanese, and you are not speaking Japanese; just as the Japanese (and Germans, and French) routinely butcher English words, so too are you entitled to put your own spin on theirs. MAN-ga, sure, why not? Maybe in a century or two, this will be the standard pronunciation, and 'mängä' will sound quaint and archaic.

I don't know if I want to take manga-creating advice from a shirtless guy who doesn't know how to "landscape mode" his phone.
