early Comedy Channel was incredibly hit and miss but occasionally they were doing crazy innovative shit
there is still a joke from a Captain Lucky sketch I remember, twenty five fucking years later
I only recently learned that Joel created this show and Comedy Channel picked it up as package deal with MST3k. Which means he was behind 100% of the good programming they had.
Allan Havey's show was bad overall but it was worth a watch occasionally. And it had Nick Bakay who is a funny dude.
Other than that, yes. Bad.
I don't even remember that one, I remember another clip show that came on after HB&G I think, that was hosted by a woman I remember being like a cross between Judy Tenuta and the woman from Deee-lite, but other than that my memories are mostly supercar and clutch cargo and unfunny scenes from unfunny big budget comedy movies over and over and over until something like this or MST3k was finally on.
Oh, and they always played that awful movie where Sean Young and I forget who, John Cusack maybe, are trying to hide a body or something.
It was a bit later but my crappy TV holy grail these days is the Comedy Central recut of Cheech and Chong's Next Movie that replaced all of the marijuana with diamonds, reworked the plot (such as it is) and padded it with restored footage of Chong aboard a UFO and some other stuff that wasn't in the theatrical version. Probably everyione who had basic cable has seen a little of it but nobody seems to have thought of taping it. I even asked on Cinemageddon a while back and there was some interest in seeing it again but nobody had any clue how to get it beyond buying every lot of hand-labeled VHS tapes I saw on eBay until I found it.
They did a TV edit of Blazing Saddles that used some footage that was cut from the other versions I've seen, too, but that's less interesting.
John Holmes Motherfucker
A smarmy Mentos commercial every 15 fucking minutes, usually this one.
