So, my brother was in the marching band in high school. They did a high school marching band version of Koyaanisqatsi. It was as bad as you'd think. My parents dragged me to all of the band competitions that year, so I not only got to sit through marching band Koyaanisqatsi, but also all the other marching band songs from all the other marching bands. There were like 12 competitions.
Every time I hear Koyaanisqatsi, that's what I think of. This one star represents my feelings.
Back in college I scored free tickets, 7th or 8th row center, to a performance of Akhenaten and went to see it with some one else from my band. Philip Glass was sitting a few rows behind us. Your brother's performance honestly sounds more exciting.
But then there are only a handful of Glass pieces I actually like, most of his stuff doesn't do much for me. I'm a Terry Riley man.
I worked on the West Coast premiere of Glass' Orphee about 5 years ago, and part of my job was finding stuff for Mr. Glass to do, and for the most part he didn't want to do anything except stay in the Marriott hotel room. I turned out seeing him every day for a couple of weeks though, and I think we exchanged 5 words tops. Anyway on opening night one of the supernumeraries was sick and I guess he suggested me, since it's very "hipster.." and I was kind of offended but I did it anyway.
