Yes but he's also funneling all his time, attention and money into fixing the very problems he's talking about in this video, and he's set up his estate such that it can only be used for that, and that might be why the video is with him and not, say, some random virologist.

Yeah. Abloobloobloo all you like about M$ and 'muh monopolies' and all that crap, but Gates has done something extremely hard for even the average person unburdened by billions of dollars of wealth.

He's proven that he's a decent human being.

Most clearly by making use of that wealth in a real and tangible active way, with plans to ensure it's continued to used after he and his wife dies, with little more than a tiny 'make sure they don't die in the gutter' portion allotted to his kids.

If all the billionaires out there behaved like Gates, the world would be a tangibly better place.

So, yeah, for me, I'm fine with Gates not dying any time soon. If only because on top of the work he's making his money do for humanity (and ACTUAL humanity, at that, not 'white America' like most 'humanity' tends to turn out as), he's actively working, himself, to try and convince his fellow wealth monsters to try and be better people and follow his example with THEIR fortunes, too.

You mean his actual kids? Guess I never realized he had any. I think that's kind of cool in a way. I knew way too many kids growing up who were just born into money (money meaning probably a million or two, not billions) and they're spoiled idiots and half of them are in jail.

Then again, it'd be hard to convince your kids to go to college or anything if you're Bill Gates.. that's like parents who give the drug talk when they smoked weed in the 70s times, well, a billion.

I'm not convinced at all by the "don't leave your children any money" argument, both because the idea that it somehow "builds character" or something is just ridiculous and because I've seen how hurtful it is to people who have had it done to them. But yeah, when you've got as much money as the Gateses you sure don't need to leave much of it to your kids for them to be set for a generation or two. Just raise them to not be entitled pricks. Which means don't be an entitled prick yourself. The trouble is that being an entitled prick is one of the most effective ways to get rich.

Yeah.. I got transferred to the one of the wealthier schools in high school (ironically my local school is now more wealthy because it's right in the middle of Portland and not near the suburbs) and most of the kids just sort of knew they'd take over the car dealership or the video lottery bars or something else whose financial legacy is mere pennies to the Gates'. So they'd fuck around before and during college, simply because you had enough money for drugs and an understanding dad if you crashed the Mercedes, things like that.. rich kid problems. The Gates on the other hand.. that had to be a fucked up situation growing up. A friend of mine said he got lost in Medina Washington and they were on him immediately, and he was detained even though he had no criminal record (he just looked like a drifter, which he is). There's cameras like in the sidewalks and stuff. Gotta be hard to bring your friends over that way, even though you have the coolest toys.
