I feel like they've been showing the same trailer since E3 2013. I just want to play this fucking game already.

I remember when they first announced at E3 last year with a brief trailer. I remember thinking "Surely that video is a proof of concept and the game won't actually look like that." Even if it plays like crap I have to admire the visuals. I never thought video game graphics would be so flexible.
I really have a thing for games that look and feel like you're playing a cartoon. It's why I love Rayman Origins and Legends so much.

This looks great. I'm kinda sick of the pixel nostalgia of making a game that looks like it was made in the mid 1980s but wouldn't stand a chance on a 386.

Yeah, this looks pretty great.
Although I'm shocked that in 2015 they still apparently can't make an "old film" filter that looks convincing.
I thought red dead redemption did a pretty good job with the short films you could watch..
OZ: Those were pretty much my two initial thoughts.
"Holy shit this looks amazing."
"Why do the words keep going out of focus? That doesn't look old-timey. It just looks artificial."
I've seen it pulled off pretty well in some movies but yeah, I've yet to see a video game do it well.
That one creepy FMV of the crazy aryan twins in Resident Evil Code Veronica is probably the best effort I've seen.
Probably because, as someone else noted, they're going for Gen X rerun nostalgia by using a CRT filter to show 30s cartoons.
0:46, time for a suplex!

Also, I came across this opinion piece at a gaming site, about how problematic this game is:
"I say all of this to say that while I recognize that the cel shaded beauty and style of Cuphead is new to games and something to be appreciated, seeing the trailer for the game this week elicited a visceral reaction in me. It made me feel physically ill. I got queasy and my head swam a bit. It was one of those moments when you are sure that your blood pressure has shot up 20 or 30 points, a true WTF moment. I kept waiting for the other shoe to drop. I kept waiting for the next boss to be a thick-lipped, black-faced, spittle-dripping caricature of an African American man (probably holding aloft a terrified, screaming, blonde, Caucasian woman just to show what a threat he actually was). And looking back at the trailer for the game that was shown at last yearís E3 we see that the devil who is after the souls of our heroes (Cuphead and Mugman) is strangely reminiscent of caricature (NB that this yearís trailer devil was grayscale, so the color is unclear, with less pronounced lips)."
"The game threatens to draw upon racist caricatures to inform the narrative and give players a series of racism infused bosses and obstructions to justice to properly hate. Perpetuating the stereotype and, in some cases, feeding the racism that is foundational to the art style itself. As for me, Iím going to skip Cuphead (as innovative as everyone claims) because it just hits too damned close to home."
