I had a friend who was Sami. She was beautiful, but got addicted to heroin. Don't know what happened to her. I was under the impression that there was an enormous effort to preserve their heritage and that they had quite a bit of autonomy, but nothing really stops greed I guess.

I'm pretty sure that kind of preservation doesn't actually happen in the west anymore, technofuturism and the embrace of free market economics by the left in the 90s pretty much put a stop to that.

Look at what has happened to Iceland in the last decade or so, I can't think of a much starker example.
