I have never gone hunting but I know guys that hunt. Deer or wild boar, mainly. The guys I know who do it consider it a sacred act and use as much of the animal that they can. Given how many deer and wild boar are out there (and how wild boar are not endemic and need to be culled so they don't fuck up the environment) I have no problem with it, and I totally support it.

This is basically a bunch of bullshit. The fucking idiots that go over to Africa to shoot big game know very fucking well how endangered every single mammal over there is, and they do it because they can't get away with that shit here and they very well know it.

The mentality that goes into beaming pride mode over killing something that has been facing huge losses in population, furthering the risk of extinction, and the justification as "helping" to keep the populations sustainable when it's a bold faced lie, is especially sickening.

But THEN...THEN these motherfuckers have to kill animals that are used to seeing people all the fucking time on wildlife tours and they have become practically tame due to their continuous contact with humans. This wasn't some vicious creature that he stalked that could easily fight back and run up and chomp him. This was like killing someone's fucking pet. And not only that, this fucking idiot let this lion wander around with an arrow wound for DAYS before finally using a gun because he was too incompetent to actually complete the task he started with a bow. FUCK this guy.

My thoughts exactly. Hunting isn't my bag either, but I can imagine why someone that eats meat might want to shoot their own food. Safari hunts are bourgeois, cowardly and gross. For me, the "social' justifications are the most enraging part. Go make a Hemingway tribute video and stopping shooting animals from a Jeep.

In fairness to Cecil, he was a *celebrity* lion. The lives of celebrities have intrinsic value above and beyond those of regular human beings, so lion or not, "murder" is still perhaps the appropriate term to use here.
