So, Kerry King: most overrated guitarist, or merely the most overrated West Coast thrash guitarist?

Discordia - 2015-08-08
I've always loved Kerry King because he's not afraid to play the same solo for every song: https://youtu.be/Ubw8TsUDeWA

Basically just a a bunch of random squeaky notes played as fast as possible.

Followup question: legit best guitarist, metal or otherwise. Go!

simon666 - 2015-08-09
Jon Levasseur, best.

Sorry. Best metal guitarist. Paul Ryan is up there too.

Also, Slayer's influence is pretty great. Without Slayer, there would be no At the Gates.

I'd probably go with Devin Townsend myself. He's not the best metal guitarist from a purely technical standpoint, but he's the probably best all-around musician and "creative" talent in the scene - while still managing to remain a decent, intelligent human being. He's one of those rare "musician's" musicians who, despite his skills, isn't also an asshole.

From a technical standpoint, I think the best (i.e. most naturally talented/ technically adept) guitarist I've seen is/was Shawn Lane. From a purely songwriting perspective, maybe Mikael Akerfeldt.

OK, I love Slayer but this is unwarranted.
