I hate Mr. Bungle. They're like a shitty combination of RHCP and Phish.

chumbucket - 2015-08-24

They actually meant to be a shitty RHCP on purpose.
They only sound like Phish because they are, like Phish, just one rambling rock blender without purpose.

EvilHomer - 2015-08-24

Actually, no. They're like an awesome combination of Zappa and Iron Maiden.

Normally I'd get mad over your ignorance, but it is obvious that you're trolling; mentioning RHCP is a dead giveaway, because everyone knows the RHCP were super jelly of Mr Bungle.

EvilHomer - 2015-08-24

Besides which, they didn't really have ANY songs that sounded like the RHCP. Faith No More sort of did, but only in the sense that FNM and RHCP were both funk "metal"... and even then, the resemblance between the two bands was vague at best, akin to the "resemblance" that might be heard between, let's say, Slayer and Winger.

infinite zest - 2015-08-24

I never really liked Mr. Bungle either, even though all my friends did. But I do love Mike Patton. I guess it's kind of how I don't like RHCP but love John Frusciante's solo stuff.. I dunno. Anyway this is cool. You should've heard the shit "grunge" bands at my high school talent shows. They made Everclear and Floater sound good. Yes, Floater. Sound good.

EvilHomer - 2015-08-24

Which albums have you guys heard? The thing with Mr Bungle is, they're never the same twice - if you hated one album, you might love the next one. Hell, if you hated one song, you might love the next!

For example, I'm not really a big fan of Disco Violante - their experimental jazz album - but I love Mr Bungle - their ska death metal album - and California - their lounge one.

EvilHomer - 2015-08-24

^Volante, sorry.

Cena_mark - 2015-08-24

I don't know which albums I heard. I just remember hearing it in a friend's car and not liking it. He brought up RHCP, because Mr. Bungle fans always have to bring up RHCP and explain why Mr. Bungle is superior.
I just hate jam music. Especially free jazz. Nothing is worse than free jazz.

infinite zest - 2015-08-24

Besides their 3 albums, I don't think there's any Mr. Bungle I haven't heard. I used to work with a guy who was really into them and played them like it was his goal in life to make me like it, which he didn't really need to do since I like Fantomas and Tomahawk and ESPECIALLY Patton's solo album Mondo Cane. But yeah EH you're right. They're all very unique in their own way: the only other contemporary groups that have such unique pairings are BABYMETAL, Nightwish.. I'm sure there's more.. and I like that. Bands used to switch up genres all the time like it wasn't a big deal and you rarely see it anymore.

EvilHomer - 2015-08-24

IZ - oh, well that's too bad. At least you've heard enough to have an infomred opinion!

Cena - I am a Mr Bungle fan, and up until this very thread, I have *never* mentioned RHCP in connection with Mr Bungle. Nor can I recall ever hearing any of my friends mention RHCP in connection with Mr Bungle. I'm not sure why the Mr Bungle fans you are speaking with like to compare them to RHCP; perhaps these people you were hanging out with are dumb?

Mr Bungle is not a jam band, either. They have very little in common with jam bands, aside from the eclectic instrument choice and their interest in time-signature changing improvisation (which doesn't really factor into their albums).

Cena_mark - 2015-08-24

I don't know how you haven't come to the MB/RHCP connection? I recall the track I head having slap bass in it. Any band with slap bass is pretty much ripping off RHCP.

EvilHomer - 2015-08-24

Slap bass is a slap bass thing. If anything, Mr Bungle's use of slap bass rips off Primus - here are a number of songs on their self-titled album which have very Primus-like segments, although frankly, Bungle > Primus, every time.

Miss Henson's 6th grade class - 2015-08-24

I wouldn't exactly call them listenable, but it's hard to deny that "Disco Volante" is one of the flat-out weirdest chunks of rock ever produced, and it's a miracle that Warner Bros. let them release it. It's like outsider music made on purpose by expert musicians, or something.

That's the album that my freshman college roommate played at me when he was annoyed that I couldn't get up before eleven. I heard it so often I ended up buying my own copy after we moved out.

Adham Nu'man - 2015-08-24

Mr Bungle does not sound like RHCP: https://youtu.be/tcQrOG7BJq8

Adham Nu'man - 2015-08-24

Anthony Keidis did accuse Faith no more (which shares Patton as a vocalist with Mr Bungle) of copying "their style" (and sexy moves), so Mr Bungle once showed up at a concert dressed up like RHCP and only played really shitty covers of RHCP songs. Aside from that, I don't see any connection.

The 350,000th argument about Mike Patton on the POE network.

Cena_mark - 2015-08-24

How come I've never heard of him until now? Probably cause nobody gives a shit about him or his shitty band.

Adham Nu'man - 2015-08-24

OH SNAP!

EvilHomer - 2015-08-24

Hey, how many times has Bjork asked Cena to record an album with her?

Oh, that's right.

None.

Cena_mark - 2015-08-25

Who gives a shit about Bjork? Only nerds do. I'm assuming you brought her up, because she wanted to do an album with Mr. Bungle. That's not really an honor. Hell, I'm sure Yoko Ono would also love to do an album with them.

EvilHomer - 2015-08-25

She did an album with Mike Patton. Mike Patton beatboxed for her. Beatboxing is the fifth element of hip-hop... but of course, you wouldn't know anything about that, would you?

Old_Zircon - 2015-08-25

I hope her album with Patton isn't as horrible as that song she did with Lightning Bolt. That was really, really bad.

Cena_mark - 2015-08-25

I don't know much about beat boxing, but I know about the old elements of hip hop thing. Most of the elements aren't relevant to making music itself. I don't need to be a break dancer, just as I don't need to be a beat boxer. I have drum machines and Reason.

Old_Zircon - 2015-08-24

Eerily reminiscent of my high school band.

William Burns - 2017-09-19

That's my High School!
