dairyqueenlatifah - 2015-08-27 Holy shit, I...I can't believe this is Japanese animation. Much less from 1947. What the FUCK happened?
[insert mean spirited joke about the effects of being nuked here]
Seriously, this 18 minute cartoon has more frames of animation in it than every piece of Japanese animation in the last 40 years combined.
Kid Fenris - 2015-08-27 You're really that surprised? It's the same reason old Popeye shorts have more animation than modern 65-episode cartoons.
Xenocide - 2015-08-28 The exact same thing happened to Japanese cartoons that happened to American ones: television. Disney and Warner Bros. theatrical shorts were seven minutes per episode, and they made maybe ten per year. A TV cartoon is 30 minutes per episode and they can make anywhere from 13-65 episodes per year, plus the margins tend to be smaller. You've got to cut quality somewhere or turning a profit would be impossible.
