Despite having spent a lot of time around them, I've never really "gotten" drag queens.

But these girls... they're A-OK.

infinite zest - 2015-08-29

I've gotten to the point where I don't "get" anything: punks, bros, super saggy pants that somehow don't fall to the ground (please teach me), BDSM, SMB, beard culture, fedoras, tallbike culture, unicycle bagpipe culture.. Darcelle XV is where I go because it's the most normal thing that I DO get anymore :)

Hooker - 2015-08-29

I read Stiffed by Susan Faludi which spent a lot of time painstakingly going over drag queens and why they do what they do and their history in the gay community and everything. It's all extremely thorough and well written.

I still don't get it.

blue vein steel - 2015-08-29

I like hanging out with drag queens. I "get" them in that they are just guys with good senses of humor who enjoy their hobby. None of the ones that i know actually want to be women (not that there is anything wrong with that, but getting over that idea is a good start to "getting" drag queens) and all have pretty respectable 9-5s. It's just a fun hobby, sort of like remote control airplanes or backpacking, a way to self express and engage with life outside of its mandatory aspects. The whole sexuality aspect is just tangential. Having fun and helping others to have fun seems to be the primary driver.

oddeye - 2015-08-29

Thinking they are transgender, or whatever the pc term, is really the crux of why many don't get it

That guy - 2015-08-29

morelike Susan FaLOLdi amirite

Hooker - 2015-08-30

Hahah. Did I name-drop? I didn't know the way to present that without being a douche, so I figured I would just go full-douche.

Rodents of Unusual Size - 2015-08-28

I think I'm in love...with their hair!

chairsforcheap - 2015-08-28

latrice royale is the best apparently.

SixDigitDebt - 2015-08-28

I like my beer cold, my TV loud, and my homosexuals flaming.

Old_Zircon - 2015-08-28

"Comicon superhero realness penis" should be a tag.

The Mothership - 2015-08-28

Seconded.

fedex - 2015-08-29

Thirded.

Also:

CINEMA-FUCKING-TOGRAPHY!!

The Mothership - 2015-08-28

I agree honey, nobody should fuck with a watch on. That just ain't classy.

Old_Zircon - 2015-08-29

I think she overreacted to the turtleneck, though. That one would have to be assessed on a case by case basis.

Old_Zircon - 2015-08-29

Unless it wasn't a sweater, in which case EWW.

blue vein steel - 2015-08-29

i disagree. Fucking with a nice watch on is cool.

fedex - 2015-08-29

your name clearly backs that up BVS

The Mothership - 2015-08-29

I stand by my statement. Even if you rocking some Cartier or Rolex shit, you take that off. Unless it's a quickie in the executive breakroom, then it's office fetish and then its ok.

ashtar. - 2015-08-30

My guess is that it depends on the watch. We need to consult Archie Luxury for an expert opinion on this question.

EvilHomer - 2015-08-30

Archie is surprisingly neutral in regards to Rolex. From his channel and channels like it, I have learned that Rolex's are regarded by luxury watch aficionados as ostentatious, cheaply made, and even a bit vulgar - the sort of watch worn by young people, the nouveau-riche, and anyone else neither savvy nor wealthy enough to own a Patek Philippe or Audemars Piguet. Rolex watches are looked down upon as over-priced, mass produced junk, in much the same way that an extreme aftermarket car enthusiast might look down upon a Bugatti, or a high-performance computer nerd might look down upon an Alienware laptop. So: rocking a Rolex, you'd probably want to take it off, unless wearing a Rolex during sex is in-character for the role you are playing.

As for the Cartier, I have to admit, I don't know enough about either their watches, or Archie's opinion on their watches, to speak on this matter. However, if any of you wish to take over, I have located a video review he did about them:

https://youtu.be/zoeo_64Kzx8

EvilHomer - 2015-08-30

Oh, OK; he said Cartier's are for "fucking bastards". Tough, vicious, mean bastards.

So if you're filming a rape porno, consider getting your male talent a Cartier.

The Mothership - 2015-08-30

My Rolex is a very nice watch (one of many; I like watches, a shame I share with Archie), but I take it off during sex. So should you.

That guy - 2015-08-29

One of them clearly hasn't mastered make-up overkill.

Also the idea of vaginas disgusting them is priceless.

Old_Zircon - 2015-08-29

The last drag queen I knew really well had a nearly paralyzing, Maury Povich level fear of women's nipples.

One time in the back room of the place we all worked, one of our coworkers (who was also one of the butchest lesbians I've ever known) changed her shirt in front of him (he was a performance drag queen, not a lifestyle drag queen; male pronouns were what he used when he was out of character). She was wearing a tee shirt underneath, but apparently (I was behind her when it happened) her nipples were just slightly visible and I have never heard someone shriek at that high a volume or pitch before or since. Then he ran straight into the bathroom and locked the door.

He was definitely playing it up a bit, but only a bit.

infinite zest - 2015-08-29

That's interesting. So would she have a problem with a drag queen with fake slightly exposed nipples underneath a dress? Most drag queens I know of, stuffed or not, put little fake nipples inside. An ex of mine had a somewhat irrational fear of mayonnaise and ketchup. Like, she wouldn't freak out but if we were getting lunch and the person at the next table had a sandwich with mayo she'd usually lose her appetite. But then we started going to a place that had really good happy hour french fries with housemade Aioli, and she loved sriracha sauce. Eventually I broke the news that Aioli is basically mayonnaise and sriracha is just ketchup with spices. I was expecting a reaction like if I found out I was unknowingly eating meat for months, but she was cool about it.

Just yesterday I was training someone and we were outside talking about stuff and I brought up moths and the industrial revolution for some reason (I have a lot of downtime at my job) and she went off on how much she hates moths because they fly into your face, etc.. nobody likes that, but later that day a moth whose wings were probably broken was walking down the sidewalk. All I had to say was "woah watch out for that moth on the sidewalk" and she just ran, while I picked up the moth and put him over in the grass so nobody would step on him. Thing is, her phobia was the fact that moths fly, but the concept of a moth that did not do what triggered her phobia still caused her to freak out. So would fake nipples on a man made to look like a woman do the same thing if your friend knew it was a man like a moth that is only a moth in appearance without the spooky flight aspect?

Old_Zircon - 2015-08-29

I don't know but I doubt he would have done as many shows as he did if that was a problem.

Incidentally, one of the biggest audiences I've performed in front of (not huge by any means, but over 1000) was playing G. W. Bush opposite him in some big drag contest at Emerson years ago. I wish I could remember the name he performs under, because she was great and definitely had a trollish edge that I haven't really seen in drag much. The performance I did he had me kill her on stage and stayed in character for an unnecessarily long time after they dragged him backstage, to the point where a couple other performers thought he wasn't acting and were getting ready to call an ambulance.

Then he had classic troll's remorse for like a week even though it was a completely premeditated and well rehearsed move to "shake things up," and 100% his idea.

We did not win.

That guy - 2015-08-29

I can barely track the he's and she's in that story.

Old_Zircon - 2015-08-29

In my story my friend was a he, our coworker was a she and the character he played during his drag performances was a she.

But then IZ started calling the he a she which is ironic considering he also just explained (quite correctly) that most drag queens are hes when they aren't performing as shes, and that threw a wrench in the whole works.

Which reminds me I still feel kind of bad for a couple of years ago when I accidentally called a transgender (but not transitioning) coworker "she" even though they identify as a "they" but I'm sure no offense was taken since they never actually mentioned it to me one way or another. Also, they're in a very serious long term relationship with another coworker's son and that coworker always calls them "she" even though she (the boyfriend's mother) knows very well that they identify as a "they" and is in no way unsympathetic to it.

Al of which feels way more futuristic to me than, like, robots and shit.

Old_Zircon - 2015-08-29

I mean, I don't think people in their early 20s and younger could possibly understand on a visceral, experiential level just how much progress has been made since the 80s. Not that there isn't still all kinds trouble but shit, could you imagine being transgender in 1985? I can't and I was alive and mostly sentient back then.

oddeye - 2015-08-29

do pastors watch gay porn next

Raggamuffin - 2015-08-29

So you're saying that Drag Queens are the clergy of the gay community? Interesting...

TeenerTot - 2015-08-29

I think it's funny that he assumes pastors would be unfamiliar with gay porn.

oddeye - 2015-08-29

Flittershy reacts to Applejack porn

EvilHomer - 2015-08-29

Fluttershy, and YES. She'd be so shocked and bashful... but she'd probably start getting into it when she thought nopony was watching her.

oddeye - 2015-08-29

Applejack be into girls?

EvilHomer - 2015-08-29

Almost certainly. Fluttershy and Rainbow Dash are lesbians together (canon, confirmed on show), and AJ is super-butch and inspired by Miley Cyrus, so you do the math.

Speaking of which, I'd legit like to see "Maud Pie Reacts to Petrification Porn".

EvilHomer - 2015-08-29

Incidentally, there are a lot of "Reacts" videos for Fluttershy Pantsu.

fedex - 2015-08-29

Petrification Pron is the new Vore Pron

Old_Zircon - 2015-08-29

Today at my new second job I heard a story about a coworker I haven't met yet getting scolded because our ISP sent a warning because they'd gotten a DMCA-related cease and desist due to him downloading copyrighted Batman porn on the work computers. He was apparently told in no uncertain terms that if he was going to watch Batman porn at work he had to do it on his phone.

So far it's a pretty good second job.

Old_Zircon - 2015-08-29

I sometimes worry that some day I'll tell one of these stories and the person it's about will be a poster here.

This is the first one where it actually seems like a real possibility, though. I can see a Batman porn enthusiast having found his way here sooner or later.

Old_Zircon - 2015-08-29

I mean shit, even I've got a DVD of Batman on Planet Eros, but technically it belongs to an ex girlfriend whom I bought it for for Christmas years ago (by request). She left it when we broke up.

There's no Batman porn like Italian Batman porn.

EvilHomer - 2015-08-30

Wait, copyrighted Batman porn, as in he was *pirating* Batman porn that was copyrighted specifically, or do you mean that DC Comics had sent your ISP a DMCA complaint over doujin, or some other unlicensed, fan-created Batman porn?

oddeye - 2015-08-30

I looked up that rainbow dash lesbo thing but I can't find any confirmed on show canon stuff

EvilHomer - 2015-08-30

Look up the Rainbow Dash and Fluttershy kiss from the episode, "A Canterlot Wedding, Part 2".
