Chattergory?

StanleyPain - 2015-09-20

Oh wow, that middle cat is an absolute dead ringer for one of my cats, and he makes those noises too, only he usually only does it when you sneeze around him.

I'm positive two of my cats have maine coon traits from somewhere in their genetic make ups because people often ask if they are (they aren't, not pureblood anyway) and they look so much like them.

M-DEEM - 2015-09-20

Ohhhh look at mr. white privilege back there letting the cats of color do all the hard work. typical

ALL cats matter.

I had a Norwegian forest cat who would do this to birds, sometimes after she'd already torn their wings off and dragged them into the garage to play with til she killed them. I also had a chartreux who sang like this to bugs, even though he was mostly blind.

Actually, I'm pretty sure this is just how cats communicate with their home planet, but I can see how one might mistake it for chattering at city birds.

Is there no cackling tag, Bel?

il fiore bel - 2015-09-21

You tell me!

Actually, cackling was not the first term to come to mind.

Dated a girl with a roommate who had a cat. The idiot thing did this when you aimed a laser pointer at a place it hesitated to pounce.

Like my girlfriend's ass.

Eventually the hesitation wears off.

I'm single now.

Maine coons are like big ol' fuzzy muppets.

Also my older cat was enraptured by this video, so stars for that.

Cats don't chatter like this when they aren't among friends. They will chatter for a human owner they like or a friendly cat nearby.

I'm pretty sure it's a hunting strategy that means, "I see some prey that I can't reach, but maybe you can get it if I point it out to you by making a quiet noise that won't scare it off."

Such big hairy beasts.
