:(

***** not making it past 1:49 dying rat slipping partly out of fish mouth and writhing in agony while drowning

fedex - 2015-10-02

As a mammal, I hate seeing other mammals in pain.

So five for evil

Sure I'll eat dead ones, as long as I don't have to SEE them suffer.

24 feet or 24 inches?

I'd like to see you make a stonehenge model.

yogarfield - 2015-10-03

ha! fixed.

Binro the Heretic - 2015-10-02

Not watching the video.

Anyway, the reason you should NEVER feed your pet anything that's still alive is live food seldom goes quietly into that good night.

A live rat can seriously maim your pet before it gets eaten.

Prey can be pretty nasty; one time my ferret unknowingly flushed a baby bunny out of the grass, he didn't even see it run out; anyway the mother came out of nowhere and took a huge bite out of his back and then followed us all the way home. I had to chuck rocks at it to make it leave because it kept dodging my foot and the broom.

yogarfield - 2015-10-03

@binro

you probably shouldn't. there have just been some cries that this place is either dying or too reddit, so i'm just doing my part.

also it's not a rat, it's a baby mouse. it's downright awful.

@meerkat

please explain ferret ownership. i knew somebody who had one, and the takeaways were:

A: they stink like shit
B: they are mean as shit
C: their shit be lookin' real pasta-like

strange how americans are far more likely to associate even minor animal abuse (live feeding is probably the most minor animal abuse right after petting your cat more than the cat wants) with "being a future serial killer" than they are to associate an obsession with guns the same way (or revenge fantasies, irrational hatred of a group of people etc, etc)

SolRo - 2015-10-02

also the weird dissonance of a nature documentary being majestic and exciting while this can only be perverse torture.

SolRo - 2015-10-02

(though I guess that's helped by the editors cutting out the part where lions disembowel and eat the innards of the occasional still-living animal)

Cena_mark - 2015-10-02

I think the description of it as torture is quite overboard, the couple feeding the fish express regret and say they aren't doing it again. I had a similar experience as a child, my brother had a green tree frog and one day decided to feed it a baby mouse. We set it down in the terrarium and immediately started feeling regret as we watched it squirm in the frog's mouth. We stuck with crickets after that.

There is no way the people who tape these don't get off on it.

yogarfield - 2015-10-03

americans, what?

the basis of anybody associating animal abuse with homicidal tendencies is rooted in the macdonald triad. jury is out on whether or not that is an accurate theory, or whether the triad manifests as a result of parental abuse, which seems to be a common factor in most patient histories of serial killers.

however, i was going more with the guy (who owns the tank) chuckling his ass off while the mouse drowns.

My wife and I have had pet rats for years. Wonderful critters. Can not watch this. Just take the stars for the video description.
