Maybe it's because I've become an avid reader of We Hunted The Mammoth, but it feels like the whole gamergate or whatever thing is turning to shit all over again, FOR REAL THIS TIME. When Anita and Zoe testified at the United Nations, a large part of gamergate went full John Birch/Alex Jones, and now that we've got 6000 signatures on the petition to arrest them for treason, its going to be much harder for the men and girls of gamergate to complain about the media painting them as crazy. Even Mundane Matt thought the treason thing was "sad", though he was also parroting the idea that Zoe and Anita were lobbying the UN for censorship, an idea that keeps being repeated without any documentation that I've been made aware of, seems unlikely, and is based on the completely evil idea that harassment is free speech, or, as they like to call it, "criticism".

And, though I hadn't been aware of it when it happened over the summer, this looks like another line crossed, the moment when Davis Aurini dropped all viable pretense of not being the very thing he was taking money to prove Anita:
a sleazy, greedy, lying scam artist. Yeah, I know, it's all pretty shocking.

Miss Henson's 6th grade class - 2015-10-11

Davis Aurini's very existence makes me feel sad about humanity. I mean, the guy is so utterly nuts and false that it makes me sad that people take the guy seriously. The gayest camp counselor/amateur dramatics character ever. I'm not even sure that terms like "in the closet" would even apply to that guy. Yet some people on YouTube think he's some sort of serious intellectual, a prophet even. Maybe everyone can get a following. There are just enough dumb people out there.

I am especially entertained by the concept now being passed around the Gamergate/Manosphere realms that Quinn and Sarkeesian speaking at the UN counts as a violation of the Logan Act and that several will take up the fight to have them charged as such.

"Oh, but the crazy is on both sides, for example...." *crickets chirp*

The reason Gamergate is still a thing is because the broad generalizations made associating millions of diverse people with the actions of a tiny minority (6000 signatures huh... that's less than 1%) which rightfully pisses people off. If the journos and SJWs would have simply focused on that minority it would have been over before it began.

Nobody really cared about the "ethics in gaming journalism" thing. Nobody cared about Zoe Quinn. The instant a bunch of hack journalists started slandering a huge demographic of innocent people is when everything blew up. And since then, the vast majority of Gamergate have been fighting against this very issue, and quite successfully as well. The online publications involved have taken massive hits to revenue, and scores of professionals involved have lost serious amounts of credibility.

So if you insist on making these generalizations and lumping the 99.X% in with the tiny minority, you should realize that you are the actual problem, you're wrong, and you're losing. How fair would it be if I judged the side you threw in on with the ultra radical minority? Trust me, there is plenty to work with there.

Oh, I see! "The SJWs!" I think you mean "any lefty that has a facebook account." Anyway, the entire hook of this story is that it didn't take a bunch of "hack journos" to make it a thing, mostly because of this thing you might have heard of called "social media." Kind of removes the middleman. Or middleperson. It's been in the news lately. Anyway, "gamergate," as a thing, came out of that.

Yes, nobody cared about "ethics in gaming journalism," on either side of the issue. Some people did care very much about what Zoe Quinn may or may not have done with her vagina. And a whole lot of people like watching a bunch of angry idiots with no social graces make fools of themselves in semi-public spaces. And boy, did that happen with astonishing regularity. I suppose you can play all innocent and be like #notallfedorawearingneckbeardbasementdwellers, but please don't talk about damaging anybody's credibility. Gamergate never had any to lose.

Xenocide - 2015-10-11

You'd think the alleged 99% of Gamerfart that is reasonable would have objected in some way to their movement being hijacked by misogynists, lunatics, crybabies and people who send death threats to women and threaten school shootings. You'd think that, if they really consisted of "MILLIONS OF DIVERSE PEOPLE" (oh my god that is so adorable) that they would have made some sort of effort to regain control of the message.

Buuuuut nope, the only time anyone from Gamergate seems to have a problem with the hateful bullshit Gamergate constantly pulls is when a sane person points out how horrible they all are. Then suddenly it's #notallgamergaters time.

Well, maybe it ISN'T all gamergaters who are hateful idiots. It's just your leaders, the people you've allowed to speak for you, and pretty much everyone who ever did anything of import within your group. So either your heroic 99% are imaginary, or they're a bunch of complicit cowards.

Not sure which one, so why don't you do a quick headcount of all 11 trillion members (no doubt a diverse group of people from multiple races, nations, planets, and dimensions) and get back to us.

blue vein steel - 2015-10-11

Agree w/ Xenocide. When this turd and Milo Yiannopoopolupoopolus have been allowed to become the most prominent voices in a movement about "Ethics in Game Journalism", such a movement may be in need of a little self-reflection.

>How fair would it be if I judged the side you threw in on with the ultra radical minority?

LOL! OH NO BRER FOX! PLEASE DON'T THROW ME IN THAT BRIAR PATCH!

The reason why Gamergate is still a thing is because every time a new low has been reached, the gaters close their eyes, think positive thoughts, and tell each other: WE'RE WINNING! 6000 signatures huh... that's less than 1%

>>6000 signatures huh... that's less than 1%

Maybe Or maybe it's the 9 people who showed up at the SARKEESIAN EFFECT premeire , logging in with 5991 sock puppet accounts. There's simply no way of knowing. You know it and I know it.

I wouldn't want Gamergate to give up too soon. Who knows what they might accomplish? Anita still hasn't hosted Saturday Night Live!

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2015-10-13

Nobody's judging your character by the worst gators. People are judging gamergate as a movement by what it has accomplished.

You just admitted that this isn't really about journalism ethics. Don't you understand obvious lie makes you look like assholes?

When a handful of journalists said gamer culture was dead, the best revenge would have been to not die. One thing Is certain, you guys can't help yourselves. If you could have just been cool, those opinion pieces would have forgotten by now, and Anita's videos would be getting views in four digits.

Good! Good! Let the self-pity take over. The sense of persecution from being criticized... It gives you focus! It makes you stronger. Soon, you will be a power greater than any SJW...

The narrative is weakening.
