Well at least he answered the question honestly.

Hooker - 2015-10-16

Yeah, I don't really see Pat as a particularly evil person so much as a kind person that's dedicated his life to an evil way of thinking. A human can reconcile almost anything if they think about it long enough.

Anaxagoras - 2015-10-16

I don't know if I would characterize him as "kind", but his answer here seemed reasonable. Hist answers often do. And then he'll come out with "Gays caused Katrina", and I remember why I think he's a douchebag.

SolRo - 2015-10-16

Or you could look at his other videos on this site and see that he actually IS an evil person and you're letting his brief glimmers of humanity (which may or may not be an act) fool you into overlooking the horrible shit he preaches.

Hooker - 2015-10-17

Or you're wrong. It's really easy to just label someone evil, both before and after. Not only do you not have to put any effort into understanding the person, you also don't have to address the complicated issue of how normal people wind up acting the way Pat does.

SolRo - 2015-10-17

It's a little too much self-gratifying relativism to fish out one or two examples of a person being nice and declaring someone is 'just a good guy that something something, circumstances, society, the system, etc made him say and do evil things'.

Especially not when the bastard has been doing this crap for decades.

Hooker - 2015-10-17

What one or two examples? I've always felt this way. I'm pretty sure I've made comments on it here in the past.

Do you feel that there's something quantifiably different between Pat and you? That there's no way you could fall to some pretty bad ideas? Because your ideas and opinions have undergone one of the most radical changes over the course of your posting on poeTV and I don't see how you can believe that you've been right about everything constantly.

There are people who constantly do and say things they don't believe in for Machiavellian purposes, and I think those people are knowingly evil. I don't think Pat falls into that category.

Hazelnut - 2015-10-17

Never judge a man until you walk a mile in his shoes... though I admit I find it pretty damn plausible that SolRo is a better human being than Pat Robertson. How much of that is the effect of luck and circumstances... well, everything is when you boil down to it.

SolRo - 2015-10-17

Not sure which of my views have changed radically, with said change having a greater magnitude than cena marks?

So tell me, do you honestly think Robertson is actually someone's nice grandpa with cooky ideas, or is it more likely he's a calculating demagogue and will say whatever it takes to keep getting money out of his gullible viewer base?

This example isn't him being pragmatic or realistic. It's him making the only excuse he could think of.

memedumpster - 2015-10-17

I think this is a false dichotomy.

You can hate the fuck out of outright exploitative human suffering vore insectoid monsters like Pat here and still have no intention of showing him anything but mercy, with forgiveness at the end(!) of the day. Your internal state is your own universe (the only universe fuckloads of humans will ever have because of people like Pat) and the sounds you make about it are inconsequential animal noises, it's only your actions that matter.

If you ever meet Pat (or Sean Hannity, I know, I know), show him mercy, and be forgiving. Feel and say about it whatever suits your fancy.

No one is a sinner and there is no enemy anywhere.

Oscar Wildcat - 2015-10-17

As far as massive 180's on this site, I suggest Meme's contemporary embrace of Christ's message as a headliner.

Pat Robertson is not Evil. He is Stupid. In my limited experience I have found it a lot easier to deal with Evil people than with stupid ones. Evil people ( like Good people ) tend to be rational and long term goal oriented, Stupid people are neither, and hurt themselves as much as they hurt everyone around them. Moreover, because they are stupid, they refuse to change regardless of external facts or pressing problems.

It is claimed that we are all born stupid, and through acquiring knowledge we slowly extricate ourselves from the morass. I suggest that this idea needs to be revised. People are born ignorant, and choose to pursue a course of either knowledge or stupidity. The problem we confront as a species is that the course of Stupid too often leads to worldly riches and fame. How to solve this problem?

Let's consider a simple model, wolves and sheep. Now the wolves prey on the sheep, and the sheep multiply to resist the predation. If you asked the sheep, they'd clearly pin the wolves as Evil. But what are they really? How to maintain the health of the sheep herd without culling. For if the sheep are stupid they will multiply without consideration of the future. In the short term, the sheep become rich and happy. In the long term, without the wolves, they die. The Evil of the wolves is in fact a check against the Stupidity of the Sheep.

Now consider the wolves. They need sheep to survive. A healthy population of sheep ensures the wolves survival. But along comes a Stupid wolf. He sez, I like to eat sheep, so I should kill and eat all of the sheep! Otherwise another wolf will! This he does, and in the short term he is fat and happy. And in the long term, he dies of starvation as well. Here the Evil of the sheep ( their incessant desire to multiply without consideration of the future ) is a check against the stupidity of the wolves ( it's hard to eat every sheep when they breed so fast ).

Evil, like Good, is an essential part of our world. We can't live without it. What is killing us is Stupid. Maybe we should focus on the real enemy, huh?

memedumpster - 2015-10-17

Stephen Chow movies are taking their toll.

Hooker - 2015-10-17

I actually thought meme quit after his total meltdown in that Bernie Sanders/Black Lives Matter video.

SolRo - 2015-10-17

Evil is worse than Stupid because evil likes to pretend it's stupid on tv or radio to stir up the stupid masses to make money off them. If some stupid people end up hurting or killing "the enemy" because of evil's rabble rousing, who cares? Look at how high the ratings are!

memedumpster - 2015-10-17

No, meme had shit to do that isn't Internet jerking off. Incidentally, meme still thinks you're all racist pieces of shit, he's just given up on ever looking for a better nature in humanity, so now argues for mercy towards those he should probably hate, if nothing else than for his own sake. Most days, meme would rather be dead than speak to anyone, so it really doesn't matter to him who he speaks to anymore. Racists, evil, whatever, here's a funny video.

The problem with stupid as an explanation is its categorically oversimplified. There are too many easy examples of critical thinkers who are complete human garbage. Steve Jobs, brilliant mind, complete slave driving sublife. Obama is the smartest president we've ever had, and he's a mass murderer.

Whatever the reason is, it isn't stupidity. There are also lots of stupid people who aren't evil. Speaking of, evil and good don't exist. Wolves eat because their hungry, sheep don't control their own breeding.

memedumpster - 2015-10-17

But here's the thing, since I'm here for a moment before going out. I don't care if in your own little world you're mighty whitey and darkie be bad. It's that personal universe thing. I don't even care if you bitch about it, because I sure will. Just don't let me catch you in 3D space actually oppressing people, you will never hear the end of it. Most people are not remotely likeable as a whole person, so I just take people as fractions. In spite of your passive aggressive white privilege infecting your politics like an indiscriminate drone strike, most (not all) of you are pretty okay. So long as your mate rate is above 50% I can tolerate the racism. Frankly, you all know me better than my own family, and I know you all better than my own family, simply because I don't have to look any of you in the eye when you get all scared of black people stealing your white 'Merica away. I can minimize the window and shake it like a Christian baby if I have to and it's just the Internet. I've never wanted to just punch you all silent, like I do some of my cousins.

You're a better racist family than I was born with, and I'll take it.
