The beautiful part is the editing. It looks obvious the kid and Michael were never in the same room.

Oh wow. Oh dear. Oh my. This ad's existence is unfortunate.

Was this Pepsi's attempt at replicating the Mean Joe Green Coke ad?

Speaking of weird shit celebrities do, I wonder what's going to happen when Cosby bites it. With Michael the whole pedo thing just kind of went away and people just remembered the music.

for no good reason on either side of that

This thing, with Michael having special alone time with young boys who idolize him, this was NEVER a secret, was it? COME ON PEOPLE!

I'm pretty sure that didn't really become a thing until the early 90s. I was only 4 in '87 but I remember a few weird tidbits like his obsession with Liz Taylor and The Elephant Man, as well as the obvious skin color thing, but if anybody talked about kids it wasn't the center of the media's attention.

I talked to a friend who felt that Michael had an enormous appeal to kids: that she considered him more of a fellow kid than an as an adult. Pop skews young as a rule, but MJ could probably be considered a weird species of kids entertainer. His spoken-word bit with Paul McCartney on "The Girl Is Mine" is also cringe-inducing.
