Breaking Bread

No one involved in the making of this appears to have actually read the comic. Instead, we're getting a generic, overly serious, cheaply made modern suspense series.

So it's kinda like me. A friend lent me the first one and I couldn't get into it, so I decided not to continue. Doesn't mean that it wasn't good but it just didn't float my boat the way other comics like Y The Last Man and Transmetropolitan, Wanted, etc. did. But even I, with super-limited knowledge of the series, knows that this is completely wrong.

blue vein steel - 2015-11-04
my only hope is that this trailer was specifically made to pander to folks into generic, overly serious dramas, and the actual show will be the camp, supernatural screwball dramedy the comics were

These is sheriff stars. They're all for you.

AMC. Arseface: Missing Character
Monkey Napoleon - 2015-11-04
I'd be way more concerned about how it looks like a generic soulless edgy TV drama than whether or not they included some retarded side character that has nothing to do with anything.

Hammer Falls - 2015-11-05
According to IMDB, there is an Arseface cast. This is a teaser, really, not a trailer. Why they decided not to showcase any of the actual fantastical plot points is beyond me. Had I not read Preacher, this trailer would have drummed up enough interest in me as Hell on Wheels, which is none at all.

At least toss a Garth Ennis tag on this.

It looks like they really took the low road with this one.

How long before we get a "Transmetropolitan" series with Johnny Depp as Spider Jerusalem?
infinite zest - 2015-11-04
I dunno if I have the whole story, but I remember Patrick Stewart REALLY wanting to do it, but it's been in projurgatory for so long that I dunno if he could pull off Spider anymore.

Binro the Heretic - 2015-11-04
Spider is Hunter S. Thompson from the future.

Nobody does Thompson better than Depp. Not since Thompson offed himself.

I love Stewart, but he wouldn't be able to pull it off.

infinite zest - 2015-11-05
Interesting. I never thought of Jerusalem and Thompson as being based on each other. I always thought it was sort of a parody of any writer in isolation forced back on the world, like a bit autobiographical and a bit of a stab at Alan Moore, kind of like Stephen King's Misery. But now I totally see it.

executive producer. not off to a great start.

Doc Victor - 2015-11-04
I should have told you he was going to play Herr Starr

That guy - 2015-11-04
I don't know the graphic novel/comic book, so I don't know how badly they're butchering it here, I guess.

infinite zest - 2015-11-04
Read what I said above. I read just one issue and I know this isn't sitting right. Jesse is kind of like Alucard from Hellsing, in case you ever read or watched that, instead of this guy, who's about as boring as Sons of Anarchy or a bad guy on breaking bad, and not the possessed psychopath superhero I assume he is.

memedumpster - 2015-11-05
Looks tur'ble in relation to the comic, but it may be cool as its own thing.
kingarthur - 2015-11-05
Well, hopefully they've done a couple of things to make it more like the screwball over-the-top bizarreness of the comic, like:

Licensing the entire back catalog of The Pogues and Ice Cube

Sobering up Shane MacGowan long enough to get him to make a bit part happen since he was the inspiration for Cassidy.

Getting a good Herr Starr.

Also, infinitezest, you really should read past issue one of Preacher. Issue one is not that great as it suffers from 90s Tarantino syndrome. Read through the first collected volume and you'll get a better feel for the book as a whole. It's pretty damn great and I promise it's worth the trip even if Steve Dillon can only draw one face.
blue vein steel - 2015-11-05
But he does draw that one face well, and not the hideous 1 face that Frank Quitely draws.

infinite zest - 2015-11-06
Good to know! I've actually got nothing to read right now and you guys know from what's good. I'll check it out! :)

joelkazoo - 2015-11-05
Preahcer was what turned me into a hard-core comics consumer. I'll save any judgement on this series until I know more about it. What really threw me was they didn't give Cassidy sunglasses, which he always, and I mean ALWAYS, wore in the comics (for good reason). Also, behind the scenes photos of Arseface make him just look like an old man, not the wonderful monstrosity the comics depicted. I really hate being one of those "it's not like the comics!" whiny little fucks, so I'll shut up now.
