Caminante Nocturno - 2015-11-27

SolRo has good taste in film.

Xenocide - 2015-11-26

The final scene of Planet of the Apes, where the statue of liberty comes to life and tells Charlton Heston, "Hey, cursing is rude."

The surprise appearance of Nick Fury in the post-credits scene of Schindler's List.

The series finale of The Simpsons.

The climatic scene of Citizen Kane, where the headline "IT WAS HIS SLED" appears on page 6 of the local section, sandwiched between a story about a dog show and an ad for toothpaste.

The Urkelbot Trilogy (especially the one Kubrick directed)

The sequence in Lord of the Rings 2 where the Night Orcs of Glenvenkrong pledge their loyalty to Zanglor the Untrenchable, and meanwhile Frodo is so scared he runs away and slips on a banana peel, and the studio audience applauds for a full minute.

Ingmar Bergman's Shrek.

The sequence in Horny Butt Sluts 12 where they're on the pool table. Everything you need to know about framing a shot is in this scene.

The scene in Green Lantern where Ryan Reynolds is trying to decide on a superhero name and says, "I'm green, but I glow, like some sort of green...lantern!" And his token Latino best friend pops up from behind a couch and shouts "YOU GOT IT NOW, PAPI!"

The very start of Fantastic Four (2015) where you notice there's a guy holding a sign up that reads "we're sorry" in the background, and he's there in every single shot of the movie.

Miss Henson's 6th grade class - 2015-11-26

It's late and I'm tired, but I laughed.

The torture and knife fight scenes in Sex and the City 2.

The Perfect Strangers Movie - where Balki and Larry consummate their years long deeply repressed emotions and fuck in a hayloft and Balki reveals he's a dom (the subsequent scenes where Cousin Larry is no longer allowed to wear clothing except for a leather thong and milk goats are also incredibly well filmed)

The scene in Avatar where Jake Sully actually tells the blue Navi the humans plans and they work out a mining deal where the humans can drill a tunnel from afar to get the mineral deposits without hurting the magic tree and the Navi will get better technology in exchange and everyone feels way smarter at the end.

The race riot scene in Bring It On

The subtitles scenes with Chewbacca in Star Wars as he explains his philosophy to Han Solo, outwitting him at every turn

The multiple gangbang scenes in Kirk Cameron's Left Behind: the Last Asshole

The scene in Tom Cruise's version of War of the Worlds where he finds his son's dead body and then he discovers all the aliens died because they're allergic to water, which surprisingly they did not think about before coming to Earth, and so he kills himself over the sheer stupidity of such beings.

Xenocide - 2015-11-27

*applause*

Bootymarch - 2015-11-27

You're just perfectly punctuating yourselves for a brian harrod there.

Rodents of Unusual Size - 2015-11-27

I refuse to Harrison Bergeron myself. Xenocide and I are comrades in wit over here. If Brian Harrod wants to steal our efforts, that is the price I must pay.

http://www.poetv.com/video.php?vid=72111

Which begs the side topic: best James Caan or Sean Bean death scene

The Mothership - 2015-11-26

Although Barry Lyndon is a very fine film.

bawbag - 2015-11-27

Stars for Withnail & I.

For me it's the Hamlet soliloquy at the end that is #10 though every uncle Monty appearance is brilliant too! Made more poignant for me by knowing the ending was originally intended to have him chewing on a shotgun barrel.

The rest are in no particular order:

#9. Confession scene in 'Det sjunde inseglet'. Von Sydow at his absolute peak.

#8. Christian's speech in 'Festen'.

#7. The bandit telling his version of the story in Rashmon.

#6. The end scene of 'Manon des Sources'. Still wows me after all these years.

#5. Though 'The Shining' is filled with ominous scenes, the one that sells it to me is the Delbert Grady toilet scene.

#4. 'Predator' and 'Long Tall Sally' are a perennial favourite, great lead-in to the movie imho.

#3. '2001: A Space Odyssey' Dawn of Man scene. That soundtrack just builds and builds till it's almost unbearable, absolutely masterful. I was lucky enough to see it in 70mm at the TIFF lightbox some years ago and it was a near-religious experience.

#2. The TV version of 'Le Comte De Monte Cristo' With Grard Depardieu. When his masterplan comes to fruition, amazing!

#1. 'One flew over the Cuckoo's nest' The death of Randle McMurphy. First movie to ever make me sob like a child back in the day, still struggle not to lose it during that scene.

15th - 2015-11-27

'One flew over the Cuckoo's nest' The death of Randle McMurphy.

Forgot that one, it's a beautiful movie.

Hooker - 2015-11-26

It's hard to pick best scenes, but the one from Shaolin Soccer where Chow's character is hitting on the street girl and it inspires the other people around to let go of their inhibitions and do what they want to do _literally_ gets me every time. The scene gets ruined when it turns into the Thriller dance, but just up to that moment, it's pure magic.

Spaceman Africa - 2015-11-27

Good Burger, all of it.

Rodents of Unusual Size - 2015-11-27

Real answers:

The scene in the bowling alley at the end of "There Will Be Blood"

The circle of truth during the Cultural Revolution's height of madness at the end of "Farewell, My Concubine"

Amelie - the scenes where she imagines what her potential lover is doing

The Right Stuff - Chuck Yeager breaking the sound barrier

Fried Green Tomatoes - the train scene and the scene where Itchy saves her friend

Ran - storming the castle scene

Happy People: Life on the Taiga - the dogsled scenes

Big Fish - all the romance scenes between him and his wife (DAFFODILS!)

The first monster appearance scene in "The Host"

Terminator 2: Judgment Day - bike chase scene through LA / cemented creek

To Live - Field battle scene from the civil war and the hospital scene where they lose their child

Clash of the Titans (1979) various scenes, but mainly Hera threatening Joppa with destruction, Perseus fighting Caliban and Medusa and saving Andromeda.

Ed Wood - Bela Lugosi acting on the street. "I will create MY OWN RACE OF MEN!"

North by Northwest - crop duster scene and also the initial scene where he's framed, which is so fucking brilliant

The reveal of the spirit world scene in "Spirited Away"

The speech scene in "Mr. Smith Goes to Washington"

The "box" scene from Bridge on the River Kwai

The entirety of The Thin Red Line

The scene where Nicole Kidman's husband returns from the war in The Others and leaves again

Kill Bill - battle against the Crazy88s

Brokeback Mountain - where Michelle Williams catches her husband kissing another man and the goodbye scene where he punches his hand

Steve Zissou meeting his son and then losing him in The Life Aquatic and then the reveal his wife makes

The scene from Moonrise Kingdom where the girl tells him how special orphans are and he tells her that she means well but she doesn't know what the hell she's talking about.

The scene where the girl tries to save Lee Pace in "The Fall"

The eye monster in "Pan's Labryinth"

"Night of the Hunter" - the river boat scene

infinite zest - 2015-11-27

Well, ROUS has most of mine, but I'd like to add the opening montage from Takeshi Miike's Dead or Alive (and the end of Audition) and of course seeing Alyssa Milano nude in Poison Ivy 2.

boner - 2015-11-27

The scene where Johnny buys Lisa a dozen red roses.

TeenerTot - 2015-11-27

I'm guessing you're referring to the groundbreaking "Hai doggie" dialog?

TeenerTot - 2015-11-27

I agree with many of the above, but I'll add the reveal of Keyser Soze.
A few more I like, but prolly aren't top 10:
HAL reads lips
Metropolis' Moloch
The truck stall in Close Encounters
The kid who knows how the bird trick works in The Prestige (on repeated viewing).

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2015-11-27

I forget, was there even a single Tarentino scene?

The lapdance from Deathproof was great because it's kind of hot the first time you watch it, and after that the context makes it too creepy to watch.

I would have picked a different scene from Yojimbo

Peter Finch's monologues from Network

Subway chase from The French Connection

The feeding machine from Modern Times is indeed a masterpiece, and it's discussed with real insight here.

This video is way beyond the dumb-dumb Watch Mojo list I expected. Well worth my time. Thanks for submitting.

infinite zest - 2015-11-27

Yeah.. Inglorious Basterds and True Romance (written by) were mentioned but I've never gotten chills the way the IB in particular gave them to me when Cat People by Bowie started playing when they're planning on doing something (in case you haven't seen it.) So anachronistic and wonderful. I'm not the type to throw a drink at the TV during a sports game if my team's losing (something my family has done before) but I was pretty close when that movie didn't win Best Picture that year.

A few more: I know it's cliche but the Philadelpha stairs scene from Rocky,
The cellphone scene from Hurt Locker, which I think beat IG that year,
Brando's reveal in Apocalypse Now,
The chainsaw twirling at the end of Texas Chainsaw,
Pretty much every shot in Sicario, not just the bridge scene (seriously see this movie),
Cliche again but "I am your father" from Empire,
Pretty much every scene with Combo from This is England,
The dinner scene from Citizen Kane..

jangbones - 2015-11-27

also mentioned as a "runner up" is the ear scene from Dogs

I saw that with film school friends, and we knew almost nothing about it going in...halfway through that scene my friend goes "what the fuck am I watching?"

Jaguar Wong - 2015-11-27

The duel between Robert Roy MacGregor and Archibald Cunningham
Setsuko's death in Grave of the Fireflies
The Tarman scene in Return of the Living Dead
Kane's demise in Alien.
The hobbling scene from Misery.
The arm wrestling scene from The Fly.
The transplant scene from Eyes Without a Face.

Jaguar Wong - 2015-11-27

The end credits for Dune.

Jaguar Wong - 2015-11-27

The birthday party in Pink Flamingos!

SolRo - 2015-11-27

Forgot to mention the dubbed Devil episode of Baccano, because whoever did the sound design for the devils voice is a god damn genius.

Caminante Nocturno - 2015-11-27

But that's a TV show.

SolRo - 2015-11-28

It said scenes, not movie scenes.

SolRo - 2015-11-27

Also End of Evangelion, mindfuck masterpiece.

Caminante Nocturno - 2015-11-27

The last shot in Ikiru.

The protester scene in Holy Mountain.

Bob Morton's death in Robocop.

The performance of Stonehenge in This is Spinal Tap.

The first appearance of the ants in THEM!.

The creation of the monster in Kenneth Branagh's Frankenstein.

'Don't stop me now' from Shaun of the Dead.

The intro and opening of Ghost in the Shell.

The mirror gag from Airplane!.

Pretty much the entirety of the Madoka movies.

Also most of what SolRo said.

Caminante Nocturno - 2015-11-27

A couple more I just remembered:

The finale of The Bad Sleep Well.

"Gooble Gobble" from Freaks.

The climax of Lifeforce.

The last shot of Jun in Anthem of the Heart.

That guy - 2015-11-29

I'm sorry I missed most of the discussion, but does anyone know Cinefix well? It seems like this list could have been a lot worse, so I'm wondering if they make good stuff...?

Bootymarch - 2015-11-29

The discussion ain't over till the site burns down!!!

I thought the cinefix list was good, just about every movie they talked about that I've seen was great but (I suppose you can't avoid this when talking about so many classics because they've been so dominant) really focused on hollywood movies.

The poetv discussion has been better, but a little focused on hollywood movies...with some anime.

jangbones - 2015-11-29

in an ocean of awful cinema channels, cinefix occasionally makes worthwhile content
