He's being really fucking stupid.
Your boss being nice to you isn't the same as your boss being PC.
Your boss can be a dick to you and still be PC.

SolRo - 2015-12-16 I don't hate him. His reasoning is just dumb

That guy - 2015-12-16
This got downvoted in the hopper by SolRo AND jimmyboblahey.
They both disliked the same thing; talk about strange bedfellows.

I voted it up, but is this is one of the weaker parts of the series. The unrelated video on Syrian refugees is much more interesting.

Xenocide - 2015-12-16
I like the part where he speaks against legalization of drugs while wiping his nose.
I like the part about not putting minorities on pedestals or acting like Native Americans are all full of magical nature wisdom. The "let them be evil too" line is a fantastic point.
I just wish it wasn't wrapped up in all that "THIS ONE TIME A MINORITY TOLD ME HE LOVES IT WHEN I USE RACIAL SLURS" bullshit. If you need to devote half your argument to milking the "I can't be racist I have a black friend" excuse, then there's probably some issues with your argument.

|
Old_Zircon - 2015-12-16 Supposedly the sniffing is a nervous tick he gets when he speaks because of anxiety.
I remain unconvinced.
I agree about the problems with his tendency to use a lot of anecdotes to illustrate his points, although I don't think it's on a "I can't be racist I have a black friend" level at all.

Rafiki - 2015-12-16 His point is that hard-line PC policing can rob social interactions of their context and demonize behavior that isn't actually bad and may even be a positive interaction between people. Both his stories illustrate this point. He's not saying he can just start dropping the N-bomb whenever he feels like it because he has a black friend. He's saying he thinks blanket condemnation can be used as a means to control behavior according to what some authority has personally decided is appropriate, but their personal preferences are being presented as being in everyone's best interest.
|
Old_Zircon - 2015-12-17 I know that because I've seen other videos where he actually has time to really make his point, but if you came to this specific video without having heard or read any of his stuff before I think it would be easy to see it the way Xenocide did. He needs at least an hour to really make a point.

In Summary: Saying mean, generalized offensive things to your friends can be fun. Stop killing the fun. Sniff

TL;DR
Huxley > Orwell.
'nuff said?
|
Xenocide - 2015-12-16 Face front, true believers! You won't believe the titanic tussle we have for you in this issue, when that sensational socialist, George Orwell, does battle with the prince of prescience, Aldous Huxley! Only one will walk away from THIS one! And wouldja believe they get a special guest visit from a certain friendly neighborhood web-slinger? It's a high school reading list rumble the likes of which you've never seen! 'Nuff said!

Two Jar Slave - 2015-12-16 I started reading the only Huxley novel I have on my shelves, Those Barren Leaves, because of you people. Tell me why you did this.

ashtar. - 2015-12-16 Compare to the end of http://www.poetv.com/video.php?vid=98054
sniff
|
ashtar. - 2015-12-16 Also, I mentioned your zizek internet meme parodies to a philosophy undergrad friend who was into critical theory and psychoanalysis and zizek and she was already well aware of them. That's some kind of success, right?
|
|
misterbuns - 2015-12-16 hah! doesn't surprise me. My friend's girlfriend is a philosophy professor and uses it in her class.
I have like 300 subscribers on the channel and haven't done anything else with it.
All my work since then has been for bands, comedians or ads that have their own distribution so they must think i just died or something.
I'm wondering what to put up there next.
My goal was to get zizek himself to respond to it and make a video out of that. the representation arguing with the reality. but you know....funny.
hah.

yogarfield - 2015-12-18 wooooooooooow, your impersonation is remarkable.

layman's philosopher par excellence. No actual academic takes him seriously, especially the marxist crowd. He is a piece of shit, says whatever he thinks would keep conference invitations coming.
