That guy - 2016-01-28 Specifically 8, yeah. By 12 or so, most kids would have thought "That's a little much".
|
Mr. Purple Cat Esq. - 2016-01-29 Oh I just remembered! I also had this..

All in all a pretty solid childhood :)

I will never understand the completionist mentality some collectors have. There are things I collect that I'm hardcore obsessed with, but I just don't get spending money and space on items that are low quality or just flat out garbage.
|
Kid Fenris - 2016-01-28 There's always the redeeming factor of collectible crap increasing in value or at least holding it. Some subcultures exploded in the past few years as the '80s and '90s generations got older and richer; some obscure NES games that sold for ten bucks in 2002 are now worth 0 for just a bare cartridge.
If this guy wanted to get out, he could probably sell his collection for more than what he paid for it. I don't think he will, though.

Yo, time to grow up!

I recall seeing the aircraft carrier at a kids house. It really is as big as little me remembers.
|
Rosebeekee - 2016-01-27 Adjusted for inflation, it would have cost about 3.
|
EvilHomer - 2016-01-28 I saw it at a kid's house once, too; for the longest time, I assumed I'd dreamt it.
I'm surprised at how crappy it looks.
|
Kid Fenris - 2016-01-28 I met only one kid who had that aircraft carrier, and it was partly disassembled at the time. By that point I was too old to care about GI Joe one-tenth as much as Nintendo, anyway.

The Mothership - 2016-01-27
The fanciest vehicle I had was the Blackbird, but I bought it with my own money at the swap meet.
G.I.Joes were great dolls for boys.
|
Cena_mark - 2016-01-28 They were originally dolls, but then they became action figures.

chumbucket - 2016-01-28
By 15 all of my GI Joes and Star Wars figures ended up as either BB Gun targets or pyrotechnic/fireworks experiments.
Also, the windsurfing GI Joe.

chumbucket - 2016-01-29 If Joe was a truly covert ops team (which they ended up not) this wouldn't be a problem because in essence, they never existed.
