what

NO! THAT IS NOT HOW MEDITATION WORKS!

Also, no such studies exist. I did a senior capstone on TM meditation, and there are a surprisingly large number of scientifically measurable effects of meditation, both in the short term and the long term. However, "influencing a global problem" via "sending positive thoughts" is not one of them.

i think the closest thing study-wise might be the one where they found that praying for someone who is ill/in the hospital actually makes them more likely to get sicker/die so perhaps this will be just the thing to get boots on the ground in syria :-/

Old_Zircon - 2016-02-02

i think the closest thing study-wise might be the one where they levitated the Pentagon.

wtf japan - 2016-02-02

You know that scene in Mars Attacks with the dove? Yeah...

chumbucket - 2016-02-02

If this interrupts smooth processing flow of roasted coffee bean supply, beer breweries and refined combustible fuels then I cannot support this. Sorry.

Scrotum H. Vainglorious - 2016-02-02

Try not to lose your head over this, pal.

Oscar Wildcat - 2016-02-02

Every morning, roughly an order of magnitude more people will wake uo and in their heart of hearts, fervently wish that Assad would be fed feet first into a woodchipper. Sadly, God remains unmoved. Not sure why this guy is hoping for better results.

infinite zest - 2016-02-02

Welp, according to his twitter he's not dead and the concert/meditation went off pretty well. That's good; I know I met this guy somewhere and he's new-agey weird and this was incredibly foolish but he's a pretty nice guy who doesn't deserve to die over such a stunt.

Anaxagoras - 2016-02-02

I'm glad he's OK too. Idiots like this guy are usually well-meaning folk with good hearts. Just... no brains.

EvilHomer - 2016-02-02

Unless he does something to piss off Obama or the CIA - like meditating oil from Iran to Russia - then I'm sure ISIS will leave him alone.

His plan kind of reminds me of Vedran Smailović, only dumber and not as uplifting.

Bus_Aint_Comin - 2016-02-03

homie, russia doesn't need any oil. 40% of their gdp is energy exports.

EvilHomer - 2016-02-03

Oh, good. Well then I'm sure Russia won't mind the disruption of the Russian-backed Iran-Iraq-Syria Pipeline, which was competing against the EU-backed Qatar-Turkey pipeline, and just coincidentally happened to occur around the same time as Obama reneged on his promise not to get involved in Syria. Clearly, Russia's support for Assad and the US's support for ISIS must be one big misunderstanding.

EvilHomer - 2016-02-03

Maybe our hippies should be sending "Hey Russia, you big sillies, ya don't need any more oil" vibes instead?

ashtar. - 2016-02-02

"If I think about something really hard, that will make it happen" is, in all its various forms, one of the oldest and most enduring lies.

EvilHomer - 2016-02-02

Well, today I was thinking about going to Tikkaway and getting a lamb curry. I thought about it *really hard*, and then, around one in the afternoon, it happened - I went to Tikkaway, I ate a curry.

Explain that, smart guy.

ashtar. - 2016-02-02

The middles step between thought and effect"action"is the most difficult and messy, so it's not surprising that people like to pretend that it's not necessary.

EvilHomer - 2016-02-03

Dude, we create our OWN realities. I manifest the energy, and the universe takes action around me.

Happy New Age Week, ashtar!

jangbones - 2016-02-02

well at least a bunch of first world hippies feel better about themselves now
