I admire that she hasn't just snapped and pointed out that she's the only politician worth the money, and that the GOP is the Ikea of politicians and Bernie is like a handout of a coat that doesn't fit at a church. She could ride open class warfare straight to the white house if she'd just stop trying to cosplay a liberal and go full bore Republican. She's got the chops, just not the political will.

In before PJ O'Rourke wakes up.

there is a possibility that she is playing some sort of long game, which is sell out every principle to get elected, believing that once she does she will be able to legislate more towards her conscience

doubtful but possible I suppose

Old_Zircon - 2016-02-15

I actually still give her the benefit of the doubt to a degree. It's been a long time since anyone was able to get elected without corporate sponsorship, and I'm still idealistic enough to think she really does represent progressive values despite the massive amount of compromise, and really is the only chance the left has to keep one of their own in office. I don't think she's purely cynical and self serving by a long shot, I just think that she's unable or unwilling to look outside the established political industry of the past 30 or 40 years and try to actually engage the majority who have been disenfranchised by it.

In a way, she's the more idealistic candidate because she believes that the core values she and her constituency hold are so strong that they can withstand great compromises, whereas Sanders has a more realistic view wherein there are lines that have to be drawn.

To be fair, it's probably true that she isn't really personally for sale, per se. She and her husband are rich enough that they never need depend on a lobbyist or corporation or whatever for the rest of their lives.

On the other hand, one could argue that she's 'buyable' by monied interests because she's so wholeheartedly devoted to the corporate oliogarch ideology that both of them have been living for at least the last, what, 25 years?

She'll do it for free, more or less.

...god, I just realized how innuendo-insulting that could be taken. It's not my intent. I've been defending her from, and rolling my eyes at, misogyny aimed at Hillary pretty much my whole adult (and even teenage) life. Maybe we're all a little subconsciously influenced by that stuff despite our best efforts.

Sorry did I miss something? They don't seem to be laughing at her at all.

gmol - 2016-02-14

Agreed, doesn't sound directed to her at all

Old_Zircon - 2016-02-15

I'm on the fence.

The irony has always seemed to me that they aren't even members of the upper class that they serve, and if Clinton really was the "first black president", then that makes him the "ultimate Tom president".

That guy - 2016-02-14

wut, and wut

Old_Zircon - 2016-02-14

Over 0 million in speaking fees alone between the two of them since Clinton left office.

Not upper class.

Old_Zircon - 2016-02-14

Since BILL

Robin Kestrel - 2016-02-14

Can't be bought because Goldman Sachs already owns the rights.

Rodents of Unusual Size - 2016-02-15

She will win and nothing will change and our country will continue to spiral into the fucking ground.
