"IT LOOKS BAD! BAD IF TRUMP, BAD IF HILLARY, MEDIOCRE IF SANDERS BUT THAT IS HIGHLY UNLIKELY, AND WORSE IF CRUZ IF YOU CAN BELIEVE IT!"
kingarthur - 2016-03-11
* the above is a brief, shouted summary of what Noam's been saying in every interview for the past year when asked about the election.

He also feels Clinton would be preferable to Trump or Cruz though, but still bad for human life.

I just imagine Noam would shout at this point if he could. He must be tired of this question.

Oscar Wildcat - 2016-03-11
No, he wouldn't shout. He would drone on for the better part of an hour, and there would be no need for further prompting. He lives for this kind of question.

baleen - 2016-03-11
I love drones.

Oscar Wildcat - 2016-03-11
Chomsky is the Palestinian's answer to drone warfare.

Oscar Wildcat - 2016-03-11
But hey, he's actually talking about the very same thing I'm worried about with a Trump presidency. That is, the environment would suffer for it. Future generations will wonder about us, and say worse things than Binro is writing about the greatest generationers and the boomers.

Old_Zircon - 2016-03-11
The environment and the supreme court would both be fucked. At least the supreme court justices Hillary would select would most likely be OK on civil issues, although I imagine they'd probably be more in favor of a liberalized, pro-business economy than who Sanders would select.

The supreme court is the big one, though, there could be as many as 4 or 5 justices to nominate in the next term, depending on how the current ones hold up. This could very well be the most important election cycle for another 50 years specifically because of that.

kingarthur - 2016-03-11
Oh, they say that *every* election.

you need a hobby, dawg.

cognitivedissonance - 2016-03-11
It's ok, I like everybody, even Waugh.

memedumpster - 2016-03-11
I see his point.

Although, if the climate is as fucked as more and more seem to say, an incompetent undertaker president will be able to hold fewer of us kittens underwater to drown us out of the rich's future Mad Max paradise. There's nothing in this country's character that precludes future death camps, so I'd rather have to escape from Camp Trump than Camp Clinton, because you already know which one will be built and maintained on the cheap.

So maybe a less competent police state is preferable? It really is a double blunted sword either way.
memedumpster - 2016-03-11
I imagine Camp Bernie would have lots of Hogan's Heroes potential.

Fuck Chomsky. He went from being an excellecnt critic of US foreign policy and a general political thinker into another tired, old "the US is to blame for everything" shitheel incapable of apparently learning anything about global politics beyond whatever he knew ages ago.

Anyone who legitimately thinks that the US is the biggest threat to world peace, is a fucking moron. Deluded, ignorant self-important moron. I say "self important" because only a self-absorbed ass could actually think that the world revolves around the US. As if nothing ever goes wrong anywhere in the world without the US.

The biggest threat to world peace at present is Islamic Extremism, bar none. If you seriously think that ISIS and the Muslim Brotherhood and all the rest of them would not exist without the US, you literally don't know anything about history or contemporary politics and are uneducated in the extreme. What grievance with US foreign policy is exactly being challenged with gays are lit on fire and dropped off buildings? Or when women have acid thrown on them or are stoned to death for showing their faces? When soldiers gun down dozens of children because they learned English in a school? So Saudi Arabia executing atheists is a reaction to drone policies I guess? People who live in secular, liberal societies like the US suddenly decided to bomb ordinary citizens in Boston because of some Mosque school nonsense about Jewish demons is apparently because of..umm...the Iraq invasion I guess?
Shut up Chosky, and let educated adults have a conversation about what is ACTUALLY fucking up the world.
StanleyPain - 2016-03-11
Oh, ad BTW..I remember this Gallup survey. In the same set of surveys, guess which country was number 1 when asked where most people around the world would like to live if not in their country of origin? The USA. Funny that.

memedumpster - 2016-03-11
You're too cynical.

Humanity's not only convinced we're the biggest threat to the world, but that we're going to win too, so they better get with #1 or fucking die.

How is that not wonderful?

Don't be a sore winner, go exploit some fuckers, they are your property by birthright.

It's just Noam Chomsky, only Chris Hedges takes him seriously, so no one.
