This is the most normal, low key, family friendly thing I've ever seen from Japan.
The YouTube comments are predictable.
They've got a long way to go to catch up to the Penis festival.
I think of all the crazy shit from Japan from pink penis parades to loli hentai festivals. And yet here they have the most laid back reserved quiet conservative natured gay pride event I've ever seen.
Gay culture in glorious nippon is an inversion of straight japanese culture.
You have all these straight guys assuming urbane effete affectations because that's what women there are looking for. Gay culture is a reaction against that: casual, macho ( by western standards).
So in japan straight guys look like fit, queer fashionistas and gay guys are chubby dudes in bball shorts, a hoodie and sandals.
That's pretty spot on, especially about the effete straight guys. Although the stereotypical "flaming gay" type certainly exist. It seems more acceptable to be openly out and effeminate if you're a celebrity though.
I was blatantly hit on more than once (during dates with women).
Maybe it was the bball shorts, hoodie and sandals I was wearing, heh. Or I was too macho?
I knew it.
Hard Gay is the only camp in Japan.
There should be missionaries for these kinds of things.
"and gay guys are chubby dudes in bball shorts, a hoodie and sandals."
If that's true then I'm really living in the wrong country.
Yeah, it really is very strange for a westerner with our ideas of gay meaning feminine. I think it's great. the gay bars there feel just like sports bars except you can fuck everyone.
it also does weird things to Japanese drag culture. Queens there are unpolished, clownlike, almost making a joke of drag culture: sorta like frat guys dressing up as girls during rush week.
this makes sense i guess because straight guys in jpop bands girls cream over all look like fucking grand domme drag queens.
