I could give a dozen reasons why Trump will win the Latino vote but they are probably all self-evident.

memedumpster - 2016-06-01

I agree, but good luck convincing the anti-information voters that Latinos are Christians, socially conservative, and easily notice that Obama does the actual rounding up mass deportations Trump is blamed for wanting. Obama has nearly deported more people than every president combined in the 20th century.

Binro the Heretic - 2016-06-01

Chief among them the "I got mine, so fuck you." mentality

Cena_mark - 2016-06-01

The early Chicano rights movement used the term Tio Taco for folks like this.

Cena_mark - 2016-06-01

More groups should have terms equivalent to Uncle Tom. Is there one for gay Republicans?

EvilHomer - 2016-06-01

Log Cabin Republicans. It's not used as a pejorative.

wtf japan - 2016-06-01

The pejorative form is Logjammin' Republicans.

StanleyPain - 2016-06-01

Virtually the entirety of GOP policies and attitudes can be summed up as "It's fine when the door is open for me, but once I'm through it has to be locked forever."

Cena_mark - 2016-06-01

I worked with a Mexican American Republican who would talk about how his mom had to work three jobs to support him, but was against any programs making it easier on the poor or raising the minimum wage. He just feels like everyone else should struggle since he did.

Sexy Duck Cop - 2016-06-01

Which pretty much sums up conservatives in a nutshell. A masochistic disinterest in finding workable solutions to problems, since apparently miserable struggling to no effect is a self-evident, intrinsic good that everyone should experience.

My grandpa had polio, so you should too! My mom had to work 60 hours a week to barely rise of the poverty line, so you should too! Making life better for others is for faggots!

magnesium - 2016-06-01

I'm withholding my prediction until after the democrats finally have a nominee. Clinton is doing inexplicably well with minorities this time. Then again, I haven't been paying enough attention to notice how well Trump is doing with conservative Catholics, so who knows.

15th - 2016-06-01

>>Chief among them the "I got mine, so fuck you." mentality

They are well assimilated.

OxygenThief - 2016-06-01

The Democrats have lead the Republicans in the Latino vote by double digits since 1980. The highest numbers for the GOP was in 2004 when everyone was scared shitless and they still only got 40% of the vote.

The GOP has always been Christian, conservative, and selfish. I don't see how having Trump as the candidate is going to push them over the top but I guess it's possible.

Sexy Duck Cop - 2016-06-01

It's insane beyond words that we are seriously discussing the crossover appeal of a man with astronomically high disapproval ratings and an inability to go three seconds without openly insulting half the country.

"Well sure, Trump's 75 points in the hole and just called your mom a cunt, so there's a very real chance he can expand the map. Oh, what's that? A video just surfaced of him fucking a pig while reading from Mein Kampf? Better inexplicably ignore this for the sake of yet another goddamned "horse race" narrative!"

baleen - 2016-06-01

"Obama has nearly deported more people than every president combined in the 20th century."

I hear this a lot. It's never mentioned along with the fact that more people are immigrating here in an "undocumented" fashion than ever before.
For instance, the population of Texas has gone up by 6 million since 2000, and the great majority of that is from Latino immigrants. The population has gone up by ~22%, almost all from Latinos and in a very short timeframe.

DACA and DREAM are pretty good indicators that Obama is not a coldhearted anti-immigrant xenophobe, which seems to be the implication when people point out deportations.

U.S. Immigration agent literally sued the Federal government for being nicer to "illegal" immigrants. The days of waving magic wands a la Reagan and the Polish are over.

memedumpster - 2016-06-01

Baleen, that's a good point, and it does correlate with Obama deporting about 22% more people than Dubya did.

Xenocide - 2016-06-02

As Oxygentheif already pointed out, Dems have had a majority of Latino support since the Reagan era (when nearly every other demographic was banking Republican) so I don't know why you geniuses think the "BUILD A WALL, THEY'RE ALL RAPISTS" guy is the one who's going to bring them home to the GOP.

Every single election cycle of my life I've heard some white Republican run his mouth about how Latinos will break for the GOP because we're supposedly so very religious and conservative, and every single time they've been proven wrong.

And even if the whole argument wasn't simple-minded and based on stereotype, it ignores the fact that there's a world of difference between traditionally community-based Latino Catholicism and evangelical God-Hates-Fags white Protestantism. There's a reason why Latino religious groups aren't the ones picketing the bathrooms at Target.

The whole thing is about as laughable as the conservatives who still hold out hope that one day every black person in the country will wake up and go "WAIT A MINUTE! LINCOLN FREED THE SLAVES!" and then run out and vote Republican.

Everyone SDC and Xeno thought were idiots turned out to be 100% right!

Now off to protest vote for Bernie again.

Sudan no1 - 2016-06-01

I'm sure there are plenty of easily conned, self-hating Latinos. It's hard to believe that he'll win the vote overall when he spends all his time bashing "Mexican" judges and governors though.

Sivak - 2016-06-01

I'm less certain of Trump winning the Hispanic/Latino vote from the Democrats. He'll certainly win more votes than any of the other Republican candidates could have. Hell, it was those votes (along with other minority voters) that helped him in the primaries. I wouldn't be surprised if they supported him as a 'fuck you' vote against the Republican establishment.

Trump may be what happens when angry conservatives (who aren't white males) realize they've been taken for a ride for the last several decades.

Sexy Duck Cop - 2016-06-01

I cannot wrap my head around people who look at his 75% disapproval rating from virtually every demographic, coupled with nonstop negative publicity, and think "this means he will win. being behind by 60 points is a sign of strength."

Old_Zircon - 2016-06-01

I called a Trump victory as soon as I heard he was running. So far I've seen little to change my mind.

Old_Zircon - 2016-06-01

I can't wrap my head around how anyone who has lived in the USA in the last 30 years could expect him to lose.

Nominal - 2019-11-22

Just here to call SDC an idiot again!

The young lady from 2:28-2:44 captures what I hear from my Latino family and friends. They agitators protesting outside Trump rallies with Mexican flags and burning cars actually pisses off most of the Latino community, even the Hillary supporters.

SolRo - 2016-06-01

So are you actually a latino or did you or someone in your white-as-this-page-background family marry some poor latino woman and now their family tries to humor your borderline bigoted political ramblings to keep things civil at family events?

Enjoy - 2016-06-01

I'm not Latino but half my relatives married into Latinos and a hunk of them live in Central or South America.

It doesn't surprise me that the Cuban-American is supporting Trump. The Cuban expats have a long & storied history of being total jackasses. (See also: Cruz & Rubio) But the other Latinos? For shame!

Enjoy - 2016-06-01

They need to get back on the Democrat plantation, right?

Anaxagoras - 2016-06-01

Pretty much, yeah.
Except, well, I don't know how to break this to you, but... "Latinos" were generally the ones that *owned* the plantations. The ones working it were the mestizos. So you've got your racial oppression metaphor kinda mixed up.

Nominal - 2019-11-22

"All the dummies who think that crucial Florida swing vote Cuban expats could POSSIBLY lean conservative!"

-Sexy Duck Cop, idiot

Binro the Heretic - 2016-06-01

You know, I'm starting to wonder...

With all the shady business dealing and stuff Trump has been involved with and the large amount of debt he's racked up, could his bid for the Presidency be nothing more than an attempt to get Secret Service protection for life?

Like if he isn't elected President, someone will find him hanging from a hook in a refrigerated truck like that one wiseguy from "Goodfellas"?
