I'd read the story by Sturgeon before I'd ever heard of the TV-movie. In the original story a small construction crew accidentally breaks open an ancient "temple" releasing “an organized electron-field possessing intelligence and mobility and a will to destroy", or energy creature for a cruder term, a hardy leftover from a war between an ancient pre-human civilization and these "intelligent grouping(s) of tangible electrons", accidently spawned by this civilization's advanced technology and which took over their machines. So of course it possess the "Daisy Etta", the bulldozer used by the crew.
