There was a story arc for a while in which they played with the idea of Troi and Worf getting into a relationship, and this episode was part of that. In this episode, Worf keeps jumping between parallel universes in which things are slightly different. In one of those universes, he's married to Troi, and it sort of freaks him out.

It was mostly just setup for All Good Things. All of which would be completely forgotten and never spoken about again just in time for Worf to be added to the DS9 cast.

The TNG writers were the worst.
