Pretty cool all right!

Those of you who are following Marvel these days, is Quicksilver currently held to be this fast? I haven't done Marvel in a while, but way back when, maybe only Makkari or the Runner could have pulled something like this off. (Or of course any of the Flashes over at DC, where there's so much super-speed going around that they had to create an entire new force of nature to explain it.)
StanleyPain - 2016-06-28
I used to be huge into X-Men back in the 80s and 90s (pretty much up until they did that X-Men 2099 continuity change bullshit) and I honestly never remember Quicksilver ever really using his powers very much. In that era he was mostly a villain (and for a time was the new leader of the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants), but I seem to remember he was rare present in stories, so much as he just ordered other villains to do shit (especially Scarlet Witch).

Bobonne - 2016-06-28
No, this Quicksilver is nothing like the one in the comics.

He appears to have time manipulation powers more than super-speed, and his personality is nothing like Pietro's.

MCU's was a lot more like the original, but then Whedon HAD to kill somebody to make things 'matter'.

Disappointing looking at the reviews. I had hope the franchise had turned around after Days of Future Past.
jangbones - 2016-06-28
This actually wasn't terrible. Kinda vapid and dumb but fun.

garcet71283 - 2016-06-28
Redlettermedia nailed it. Its schlocky in just the right amount to make it more entertaining than the sum of its parts.

Its biggest fault actually is the scale of the story being too large for an obviously trimmed down budget.

Still miles above Batman v. Superman

This scene was awesome, rest of the movie I could only focus on how terribly miscast Jennifer Lawrence is as Mistique, she plainly sucks in that role and has sucked in that role from the start.
StanleyPain - 2016-06-28
Oh man, if you wanna see miscast, check out Joy. It's just an entire movie of her ACTING!!! and it's utterly hilarious. I can't believe the kind of reviews it got like she was the second coming of the acting Jesus or something. It's like watching a little girl yell at you precociously for an hour.

Nominal - 2016-06-28
Is there anything she is well cast in? She might just be terrible at acting in general.

Born in the RSR - 2016-06-28
I have only seen her in the X-men prequels.

I don't know where she came from or why she's so famous, but maybe that's just me aging or something.

Bobonne - 2016-06-28
I think she's in those Hungry Game movies.

So she suddenly became some tween superstar, and now Fox is making her the leader of the X-men, despite her hating actually playing, you know, the character she plays. "Plays".

Kabbage - 2016-06-28
Nobody touches Sophie Turner's Jean Grey when it comes to miscasting. Holy shit was she bad.

spikestoyiu - 2016-06-28
She seemed fine enough in "American Hustle"

Kabbage - 2016-06-28
And she's fine in Game of Thrones. She was just incredibly flat as Jean Grey.

Nominal - 2016-06-28
I don't think anyone over the age of 13 is going to argue that The Hunger Games was well acted (aside from Harrelson).

But I was willing to chalk that up to Star Wars prequel syndrome: impossible not to look awful given the script.

Wait wait, no. Most miscast (comic)book role ever has to go to Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow. Cold blooded != emotionless bore. Worst femme fatale since Hilary Swank in Black Dahlia (also starring Johansson!).

spikestoyiu - 2016-06-29
I'm not a huge fan, but I've sat through a couple of Avengers and Captain America movies. Johansson is definitely the worst aspect of all of them.

StanleyPain - 2016-06-28
I would argue that this is not the only good scene in the movie. The part that establishes Magneto is pretty well done, I thought. (I won't spoil it here) But it's kind of hard to keep a tone like that in a movie where you decided to make your bad guy the Purple People Eater.

How sad is it that the cheesy 90s cartoon did Apocalypse a hundred times better.

Born in the RSR - 2016-06-28
90s Apocalypse had the BEST voice!

Kabbage - 2016-06-28
Yeah Magnet's backstory was good for as long as it lasted.

StanleyPain - 2016-06-28
I still say that it is impossible to put some of these characters into movies without exploring their original backstories. Apocalypse only make sense in the comics when you do the whole thing about Moira McTaggert discovering a way to "cure" mutants and how it ties in to the whole government program to control and contain mutants. THIS is what gives Apocalypse a reason to emerge and say "hey fuck you, we're here, we're queer" and start his whole deal.

Changing the story to "Apocalypse hates people and has been sleeping for a long time and is now grumpy at having slept through all of history" is fucking lame as shit.

Nominal - 2016-06-28
But "hey fuck you, we're here, we're queer" has been the plot to EVERY X-men movie.

In fact, the X-men Evolution cartoon changed Apocalypse's motive and goal to exactly match Magneto's from the movie.

And...their Apocalypse sucked too. He was only in a couple episodes at the very end, hardly said anything, and they beat him in the stupidest way since Ghost Rider scared off Galactus with the penance stare.

betamaxed - 2016-06-28
I hate to say this but that scene is really bad.
Anagramother - 2016-06-28
It's like a good music video thing, but everything is under slow motion and now he's not moving at regular speed like before, he's a horrendous blur still relative. So he's not like way too fast which is uninterseting. it'd be like wolverine regrowing arms in a split second fistfighting a helicopter. cool as a thing to see of course, but for a story just way out of balance.
memedumpster - 2016-06-28
This scene isn't very good.

Bingo.

Gmork - 2016-06-28
"Hey it worked in that one movie, let's just do the same thing again, but LESS believable!"
memedumpster - 2016-06-28
"And twice as long! With cheaper FX! Also, we need some sight gags! How about fish! Pizza! Dog! Dog pizza! Cocaine! Well... No! Break OUT the cocaine! We got ourselves a scene!"

jaunch - 2016-06-28
Quick Silver is basically God in the movie universe. Also, he's the only character that you actually want to see more of on screen.

My 2 cents.
Spastic Avenger - 2016-06-28
It's Mike Jittlov!

We need a Wizard of Speed and Time tag

Bobonne - 2016-06-28
Now, now.

tWoSaT was a GOOD movie.

dairyqueenlatifah - 2016-06-28
It was such a blah movie. There was even a joke in the movie making a jab at how bad X3: The Last Stand was, but I enjoyed that movie way more than this one.
Nikon - 2016-06-28
This scene was fun to watch. I might see the movie when it comes to bittorrent.
