Jerry, she's dead. You have to accept it. Jerry, stop talking to the car. It's been years. Jerry, please. This is destroying our marriage.

You can hear this theme song playing in the background of an episode of "Arrested Development". In 2006, Aaron Sorkin referenced MMTC in the pilot for "Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip". Not long ago, NPR's On The Media used MMTC as an example of a forgotten TV show of the past, which clearly it isn't. MMTC will never be forgotten, at least in the lifetime of anyone who's seen it. Not only is a slightly more ridiculous premise for a sitcom than "Heil Honey, I'm home", but the theme song is ridiculously catchy. You all may think my story is more fiction than it's fact, but believe it or not, I tested myself before watching the video, and I only got two words wrong.

A 26-year-old James L. Brooks was a writer for this, one of his earliest jobs in the business.

I wonder if they knew that when they did "The Love-matic Grampa":

So, do we have a tag for shows where the theme song is the best part?

I read a great article about depictions of mental illness and addiction in 1960s sitcoms last year, but for some reason this wasn't mentioned.

Oedipal autoerotic fixation was probably just a bit too steamy for 1960s squares.
