"MY POLITICS ARE INCORRECT!"
|
Cena_mark - 2016-07-20
The GOP live in a strange bizarro world. I was looking at comments for this and Melania's speeches and right wingers seem to think they're brilliant.
Here you have Hilary who was admiring someone who admired Lucifer as a literary figure, and now Ben Carson is trying to make her out to be devil worshiper! What world do these people live on?
|
EvilHomer - 2016-07-20 I listened to the speech, and for all its faults, Mr Carson did not accuse Hillary of being a devil-worshipper. He pointed out that she was admirer of Saul Alinsky, and questioned whether, in light of this information, she would be right for the presidency - given that Mr Alinsky was an avowed Luciferian and a patron saint of Boomer trustafarians, that's reason enough for Christians to mistrust Hillary.
Now granted, Alinsky was a popular writer (I'm willing to bet many Republicans read his work back in the day), and Hillary's college-aged interest in his scribblings is one of the LEAST of her problems. Her love for banksters and globalism, her hard-right stance on war, her unconditional support for Big Brother, her unwavering commitment to empire, her hatred of punk-rock, her open endorsement of state-ownership over children, her marriage to a rapist, the general pattern of sociopathy that has defined her life thus far, and the fact that, despite the State Department's obscene crackdown on whistleblowers, it turns out she herself was the biggest security leak of the century - these are all MUCH bigger problems than the innocent follies of her youth.
Oh, and the fact that she's close friends with Donald Trump. That's pretty shitty, too!
But credit must be given where credit is due. If you are a Christian, as Mr Carson is, and (I suspect) most of the members of his audience are, too, then it is certainly incumbent upon you to *not vote* for a Satanist.
|
EvilHomer - 2016-07-20 I mean, at least he's *trying* to formulate a cogent, rational argument here. Most American political discourse runs along the lines of "Oh, so-and-so has a stupid haircut", or "Such-and-such has bright orange skin". "SJWs like yadd-yadda", and "if you don't vote for Hurf-Durf, it must be cuz yer triggered by Hurf-Durf's blarfillbloo".
Speaking relative to the current election, Ben Carson is a goddamn Aristotle.
|
Old_Zircon - 2016-07-20 Ironically, Trump might as well have reanimated Saul Alinsky as a campaign manager.
|
EvilHomer - 2016-07-20 That's a good point, OZ! Maybe these Republicans should go back and read their Bibles; specifically, Ecclesiastes 1:4-11.
|
Oscar Wildcat - 2016-07-20 Hillary was a Goldwater Girl back in The Day. She earned those horns!
|
Old_Zircon - 2016-07-20 Obama, Sanders and Trump have all done very well with Alinsky tactics.

Ugh - 2016-07-20
patiently waited for the organizers to play queen's "we will rock you" to bring him out on stage, folks singing "you're one of the good ones" in the title's place

Secular Satanism isn't a thing!
|
Monkey Napoleon - 2016-07-20 Yes it is! He's not talking about that, but it totally is.
LaVey's Satanism is 100% atheist and is more about Satan as a symbol of single-minded self gratification.
|
badideasinaction - 2016-07-20 LaVey's Satanism, or at least as he initially wrote, is pretty secular - it's the religious analogue to walking under a ladder every day to prove that you're not superstitious rather than believing that walking under a ladder brings you good luck. I thought he sorta wavered as time went on and it was better to attract believers than ardent non-believers.
|
Old_Zircon - 2016-07-20 Yeah, I feel like from what I know of LaVey, he kind of took the Robert Anton Wilson route of at some point starting to believe the joke a bit too much, or at least start playing it too straight for it to matter whether he believes it or not.
|
EvilHomer - 2016-07-20 LaVey was the sort of guy who, had he been born in the 1980s or the 1990s, would now be all over Youtube complaining about the sorry state of Vampire LARPs.
Some folks took him seriously because they too, are the sort of people who'd be all over Youtube complaining about the sorry state of Vampire LARPs.
Also, it's worth pointing out that while LaVey Satanism may be 100% atheistic, it is only about 12% free of flimflam. LaVey was a New Age dingbat before New Age dingbattery was even a thing, and that is made abundantly clear from all the phooey and hocus he wrote about. There's certainly a joke there, but I'm not convinced he himself was _ever_ in on it.

Cena_mark - 2016-07-20 Someone should make a cartoon about a teenage LeVey and his buddy Crowley as hard core DnD kids.
|
EvilHomer - 2016-07-20 Well, meme, have you ever met any oligarchs?
I have, and I can assure you, they are all pathetic, dweeby DnD kids.
|
memedumpster - 2016-07-20 I have, and I can tell you haven't, because they are WAY more pathetic and tragic than that.
|
EvilHomer - 2016-07-20 You must have met the ones who botched their Charisma roles.

He may be on to something. Personally, I can see Hillary as the one candidate offering up blood and souls to Asmodeus. Just saying.

Kid Fenris - 2016-07-21
The satanic panic starts about four minutes in, for those who don't want to listen to another speech about how someone saying exactly what a political party wants isn't "politically correct."
Also, Lucifer's fall is described only in vague-at-best terms in the Bible (the apocryphal Book of Enoch notwithstanding), the name Lucifer itself is misapplied, and the romantic image of his rebellion largely came about because of Paradise Lost and other fiction that's not regarded as holy writ.
