As opposed to Homer's silly history lessons, I'm showing actual demonstrations. He can say the Katana was inferior, but he can't show it. Without something demonstrable your historical anecdotes are meaningless.
That's a much larger sword. There were huge karanas made called odachi. Comparing a bastard sword to one of those would be a better test.
Nodachi. And we've discussed this before: katanas were always smaller than their European counterparts. Katana blades were were shorter by many inches than European blades; it's one of the many reasons why katanas are an inferior weapon.
They make longer, heavier Katanas too, you know.
I am 6ft and a big guy.
I have their 30" model, which is still 2" longer than the usual katana.
With the spring steel it is still heavy, & the 33" one above must be a beast.
I can't imagine they didn't make bigger katanas back in the day too.
You know, for all those sumo wrestlers who got drafted by the shogunate...
Homer I don't see why you had a problem with The Smithsonian scaling down the longbow to compare it to the superior yumi, you should then expect Nat Geo to compare swords at a matching scale.
That doesn't even make logical sense. If I had a problem with the Smithsonian re-scaling weapons, then OF COURSE I will have a problem when Mail Call does the same.
A comparison between two things needs to be done between the things themselves, not an arbitrarily re-defined variant of those things. Otherwise, I could just say something like "Knights were better at karate than samurai were. To prove this, here is a knight who for no good reason knows even more about karate than your samurai does"
Watch The Metatron's video. He is the Xavier Woods of samurai, he will tell you the truth about his people.
Awesome. I knew the show would be right up his ally. Granted the show is for everyone and should be liked by everyone, but it would especially speak to Christine.
That made no sense. The scaling makes sense in proving what the better designed weapon is.
Burns, R Lee Ermy would not get tired between strikes, he even did the Katana 2nd for the most of the tests. Either way he's a bad ass Marine and a weapons expert. He likely has crazy old man strength and can beat up any soldier or coastie.
No it doesn't. If I have a butter knife, then the thing I am holding is the design of a butter knife. I can't go and make the butter knife 20" long, with serrated teeth and an attached flamethrower, then use my new device to claim that a butter knife "is a good weapon", can I? No, of course I can't, because after making it huge and slapping a flamethrower on it, what I've got is no longer a butter knife.
Also, the comments on that thread are pretty great:
"Chris is pretty much the average SU watcher, can't say it was unexpected."
"It's about a fat kid who lives with three lesbians. Of course Chris was going to get into it. "
"Someone should tell him that the only difference between SU viewers and Chris is Barb."
"Hold on, let me get my lifesaver, the salty tears from all the SU spergs are going to flood the whole place in the next few days."
I don't see why they think SU fans would be butthurt over this news. We SU fans are tolerant and open minded.
Steven Universe fans could ask Chris Chan what it truly means to be butthurt.
SU fans are known to get SO butthurt, that they are literally willing to murder other members of their fandom over it.
But do they get so butthurt that they require surgery? (I was making a taint surgery joke.) (But please tell me all about nerd murder.)
Yes, I got the grundle joke, it was very funny.
I'd encourage Cena to tell you about the nerd murder, seeing as I know HE knows all about it, but since he will probably feign ignorance here you go: last year, some poor Steven Universe fan drew a bunch of very nice Steven Universe fanart pictures for her Steven Universe fanart blog. Unfortunately, her fellow Steven Universe fans all got butthurt because they thought her artwork was all wrong. The characters she drew were the wrong color, or something stupid like that.
So the fandom, angry at this poor artist, started bullying her, and bullying her, and bullying her, hoping that she would kill herself. And that is what she did.
It was on the news and everything!
^ They drove her to suicide because she made a fat character look a couple pounds too thin.
I wish I was making this up.
How did people decide to get offended by this stuff? It's probably the tamest fan art I've ever seen.
Back in my day, fan art had shitting dick nipples and WE LIKED IT
Damn straight! They'd be drawing shitting dick nipples, and we'd be going and laughing and enjoying those dick nipples, right alongside the sick-fuck who drew it for us. We appreciated a quality picture of Sailor Moon having her fingers removed with pliers, or Scar the Lion getting sucked straight up Simba's asshole; sure, we'd laugh at you for drawing that, ya fuckin' weirdo, but just so long as you weren't raping your cousins IRL or uploading, to your at-work computer, a hundred photos of you fucking your own dog, then we didn't actually want you to DIE.
I always assumed that increased societal exposure to the internet would gradually turn people into cruel, hardened assholes. But it looks like I was wrong, because people are instead turning into cruel, delicate assholes.
I blame Steven Universe and katanas. That is the only sensible explanation.
Homer and Burns (I swear you're the same person), I've explained this before, it was just a handful of evil tumblristas who drove Zamii to ATTEMPT suicide. The vast majority of the fandom condemned it.
I've been a victim too. I've been called a homophobe for shipping Pearl and Mayor Dewey. Some people say supporting that ship erases a lesbian character. I say to them that they commit bisexual erasure when they hate on Pewey as Pearl is totally bisexual.
The difference between me and Evil Homer is that I have no idea what it means to "ship" "Mayor Dewey." I do not produce or consume erotic or racist cartoons (well, I don't distribute them, anyway) but I would lay down my life for your right to do so.
