Jesus this guy. THE ONLY THING ANYBODY NEEDS TO DO IS MAKE MONEY, humanities are worthless.

That said, you had better have a back up plan. Or some charm. Or some friends.

Old_Zircon - 2016-07-30

I don't have it in me to watch this so tell me, is he using 4chan logic or reddit logic?

bawbag - 2016-07-29

5 for evil, having heard this same doggerel from a substantial number of MBA and MBA-wannabe types.

SolRo - 2016-07-29

I'd say an MBA is useless.

I'd also say that the rise of the MBA as an institutionally respected/desired degree is causing the shrinking of the middle class and destroying wages.

When you don't know jack shit about anything a business does other than managing people and maximizing revenue, you end up being a useless polyp that fires people to reduce costs and replaces experienced workers with inexperienced cheap foreign labor (claiming there aren't any qualified workers locally). They're all useless leeches.

Miss Henson's 6th grade class - 2016-07-29

MBA programs also teach people how to dress well and provide useful contacts and opportunities for networking.

William Burns - 2016-07-30

MBA's provide useful contacts for cocaine, cocaine consumption etiquette and an environment conducive to a lifelong cocaine habit.

Social sciences are only useful if you want to live in a democracy and shit.

bawbag - 2016-07-30

You had me at cocaine.

Old_Zircon - 2016-07-30

SolRo is 100% correct.

Xenocide - 2016-07-30

I sell cocaine and cocaine accessories.

Oscar Wildcat - 2016-07-30

Selling drugs to children is an excellent business model. So is white slaving. Free the marketplace!

bawbag - 2016-07-30

How well fed are these 'slaves' though Oscar?

EvilHomer - 2016-07-30

If children have the means and motive to pay for drugs, then where's the problem? With over two million Americans in prison because of non-violent drug charges, versus the maybe two or three child actors who actually have enough money to sustain a coke habit, I really don't see what the issue is.

EvilHomer - 2016-07-30

Also, what is your underlying principle vis-a-vis slavery, Mr Wildcat? Are you claiming that providing basic material needs - such as food, shelter, or medical care - does not justify coercively depriving another person of his or her own capacity for independent economic action and self-determination?

Oscar Wildcat - 2016-07-30

I breed my slaves as their "father" by having 3rd world women impregnated with my sperm and a random egg donor, then adopted by me to be put to slavery. It's all quite legal, and for the appropriate consideration, you can be "daddy" or "mommy". It all started when I responded to a random email about making millions on the internet... I'm considering setting up a series of seminars in different cities to teach others this amazing technique to reduce costs and tap new revenue streams.

Maggot Brain - 2016-07-30

Lets just burn all the books. Who reads books anymore anyways? All those gay ass libraries can be converted into sweet ass lofts.

Old_Zircon - 2016-07-30

That's what they did to the library I went to when I was a kid.

Old_Zircon - 2016-07-30

(to be fair, they opened a new, bigger library in the building where I went to grade school, but it feels like a call center)

Gmork - 2016-07-30

The war on education.

EvilHomer - 2016-07-30

Yes, but fortunately Japan is fighting back.

Gmork - 2016-07-30

Wrong.

EvilHomer - 2016-07-30

Why?

William Burns - 2016-07-30

Are you under the impression Japanese Salarymen need more structure?

Void 71 - 2016-07-30

This appears to be a disease prevention program aimed at stopping the spread of the Trigglypuff virus. As such, it's too early to measure the results.

William Burns - 2016-07-30

That is the dumbest opinion. Eliminate Social Sciences because Japanese culture isn't racist enough.

Gmork - 2016-07-30

Obvious EH troll is obvious.

EvilHomer - 2016-07-30

Sorry, Gmork, that's not an argument.

If you think the video was error, then please explain why. I see an articulate, six minute long argument in favor of the Japanese position, yet so far, not one proper rebuttal.

Old_Zircon - 2016-07-30

EH, you can't be a Bernie troll and a STEM troll, it's just too much of a strain to our credulity.

Old_Zircon - 2016-07-30

(but if you're bored, you might try going on /biz/ and calling people "STEMcuck" - it's good for about 5 minutes of mindless fun)

Gmork - 2016-07-30

I don't need to argue with a troll tactic, only other actual arguments.

EvilHomer - 2016-07-31

Not hearing a lot of arguments. Seems to be a pattern with the anti-STEM crowd - which is sad, given that the only real defense I've heard in favor of the Humanities, is that they're 'supposed' to help students learn to think critically and open up to the world around them.

OZ- who said I was pro-Bernie, or pro-STEM for that matter? I follow wherever evidence and reason leads - which in this case means admitting that the video presents a solid case, and asking my fellow poesters for some *actual* rebuttals. You are smarter than our friend Gmork; perhaps you could show him how it's done?

memedumpster - 2016-07-31

STEM vs. humanities is a false dichotomy, neither teach critical thinking skills.

EvilHomer - 2016-07-31

Well, yes and no, Mr Dumpster. Nobody here (the video narrator included) has yet made the claim that hard sciences promote critical thinking. But, if you really wish to bring it up, then that claim is a pretty good inference to make, and I should point out that, yes indeed, some hard sciences DO encourage reason and critical thinking (a degree in biology requires a grounding in critical thinking, whereas a degree in accounting or HVAC might not) However, I do basically agree with your conclusion, in so far as the "controversy" between the pro-reform STEMers and the anti-reform reactionaries rests largely on a false dichotomy - and the false dichotomy issue is, in fact, why I must respectfully reject the ONLY OTHER argument which I've heard repeatedly from the reactionaries: that there is a fundamentally zero-sum relationship between the existence of the Humanities, and the emergent primacy of Real Science.

Favoring hard sciences for inclusion in university education does NOT mean that the flabby sciences have either been discredited or destroyed. "Humanities" will continue to exist, whether they are being taught at all universities, or only a few; whether they constitute half of all graduating degrees, or less than five percent. The thinkers, the arguments, the massive extant bodies of literature - these will not, and indeed cannot, be forced out of existence merely by the presence of mathematics classes, so attempting to present this debate as a zero-sum battle for survival - "either we heavily-subsidize worthless Humanities programs in a costly, demonstrably-failing university scheme that has thus far enriched no-one save the financial loans industry, OR the Humanities cease to exist and the sum of human knowledge tumbles right back into the dark ages" - is both misguided and intellectually dishonest.

memedumpster - 2016-07-31

Capitalism is the only aspect of the argument which cannot justify its own existence.

memedumpster - 2016-07-31

BUT only because the video didn't bring up the absolutely low hanging stupid-fruit of certain blatantly indefensible and outright existentially insulting college courses.

http://time.com/3153922/tufts-hipster-culture-course/

Boy does the origin of this one sting :
http://firstyearseminar.appstate.edu/what-if-harry-potter-real

This is on poe somewhere and never stops being fucking embarrassing to know exists : STARCRAFT THE COLLEGE CREDIT!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L7XiE_V0PZ8

There are legions of others.

Gmork - 2016-07-31

"Not hearing a lot of arguments."

What a coincidence. All I heard was an obvious troll.

Ugh - 2016-07-30

have some stars for the myopic rant and a few more for his eye-watering voice and speech delivery combo

Ninehells - 2016-07-30

Invisible Hand Fetish.

cognitivedissonance - 2016-07-30

Don't worry, the Orange Catholic Bible will see us through.

Xenocide - 2016-07-30

An MBA is something you get when you've taken a hard look at your life, realize you're a really boring person, and say to yourself, "But am I boring ENOUGH?"

Old_Zircon - 2016-07-30

An MBA is a good choice if you're an obsessive-compulsive without discipline or a sociopath without charisma.

Kid Fenris - 2016-07-31

His other videos are precious. Static images from terrible anime accompanied by his whiny-robot advice about Men Going Their Own Way and bitcoins.
