How do you ban someone from downloading an app?

Also, have they also banned murderers from playing?
Old_Zircon
I don't know how it claims to work, but they did it.

"Mr Cuomo has sent a letter to the game's developer, Niantic, asking for help with how to stop people with convictions for sexual offences from playing Pokemon Go.

He has reportedly suggested that the company cross-reference people playing the game with the state's sex offenders register."

So the answer is they have no idea how to actually enforce it, which is no surprise since they also had no idea how Pokemon Go works to begin with and just saw danger in the randomly selected GPS coordinates.

Basically the only thing this accomplishes is to further ostracize sex offenders from society and give them even less reason to try not to offend again. Just like what the sex offender registry already did to begin with.

Incidentally, I see that BBC article repeats the misinformation about the Holocaust Memorial Museum (every reputable source I've seen says it never happened, although apparently there WAS a hotspot located close enough to it that some people were able to find some Pokemon from inside the museum; but the widely circulated report that there was a hotspot IN the museum is apparently false).

SolRo
The stops and stuff aren't random, they're copy/pasted locations from another game the company runs and those were made by players submitting them.

Which is why the game is desolate garbage outside of major cities.

Old_Zircon
That makes more sense, I knew people could place stuff themselves but I'd heard that the pokemon locations were at least semi randomized (like, there were specific regions where certain kinds would live but the locations of the individual pokemon in those regions were random). I've never played it myself since that would mean buying a smartphone and going outside.

SolRo
I don't think locations for the actual monsters are that important either aside from land or being near water.

The game just isn't very well made and it's definitely just a cynical cash grab get kids to beg their parents for money for the many cash shop items once the game gets really grindy and repetitive at higher levels.

I'm just messing around with it because it pushes some OCD buttons, but I'm just going to use one of the gps hacks eventually because I don't want to stalk parks in 115 degree weather or at night

Old_Zircon
Well my only Android device is a tablet so unless you can play it in a free wifi hotspot without having any kind of data plan I'm never going to know.

Old_Zircon
You might be able to get them on Pokemon Go if you play your cards right.

Aren't we all next to or close to a pedophile relatively speaking.

Seriously, that's what I thought.
And OMG, they could use CANDY to lure kids in!! Stop letting sex offenders buy candy!!

Old_Zircon
Exactly. This is literally identical to the people who were claiming Pokemon Go was targeting Christians by putting pokeymon demons in them, except since it's about sex offenders instead of Christians everyone is taking it seriously.

Random distributions are the mirror in which society sees its fears.

So far I've seen Pokemon Go blamed for:

-Antisemitism
-Racism
-Trespassing
-Armed robbery
-Burglary
-Car accidents
-Children being raped
-Children being abandoned by their parents
-Police gunning down innocent black men
-Discrimination against the disabled
-People falling off cliffs
-People being hit by cars
-The rise of Clinton's poll figures

Uh oh, an urban myth surrounding something popular and in pop culture has emerged we better get the government involved!!

But, hey, a thousand or so people dying a year from gun violence.. OH MAN GOSH THERE'S NOTHING WE CAN DO
Gmork
So what do you propose, as a solution to gun deaths? In all seriousness. Banning the scary rifles that account for less than one percent of said deaths? Or do you have a brain in your head and want some sensible handgun regulation? (Something I support)

Gmork
For that matter, what is your stance on motor vehicle regulation, considering the largest mass murder this year wasn't caused by a firearm? Heavy regulation on vehicles? (Based on the idiocy I see on the freeway on a daily basis, I'm also for this option)

Old_Zircon
I think 20% is a pretty conservative estimate of how many licensed drivers should never be let anywhere near the wheel of a car, based on observation.
