Every so often I like to check in on this stuff. It's a bottomless well of greatness.

Bajrangbali is the movie that got me in to it originally, and it's still on of the best of the lot (and only a little over 3 hours long). It's basically the same as these clips but from 1976 and with A list Bollywood actors.

It used to be kind of a hassle to get hold of it, but the whole thing's on Youtube now:


It's even shorter than I remembered!

One of the things that fascinates me is that even the stuff from the 21st century has the same style of effects with only minimal technical improvements, at this point I'm pretty sure they've become part of the style rather than just a matter of budget.

There are only some clips of vol. 7, but the "Shree Ganesh" one looks pretty fantastic too:
