EvilHomer - 2016-08-08 Checking Wikipedia, it seems that the acts who appeared on American Bandstand were lip-syncing, and from then on lip-syncing was taken as a given. So I guess the only difference between this and everything else on television, is this show was being honest, calling attention to the reality underlying its conceit.
