Have you considered Modafinil or methylphenidate as a treatment?
kingarthur - 2016-09-07
I've been trusting my two oncologists since they're the experts. So far I've been on full doses of a three week cycle where I am given taxotere, cisplatin, and 5-FU all on the first week, then two weeks off to recover, then repeat. The side effects used to be really bad, but they reduced everything by 25% across the board for my sixth round, which was my latest, and the nausea and anxiety got worse but nothing else.

5-FU? Yeah, they're not joking about the F U part.

Miss Henson's 6th grade class - 2016-09-05
HEY THERE. I was wondering how you were doing!
kingarthur - 2016-09-07
I'm hanging in there. I'm going to Colorado in a few weeks. :)

Nowhere near enough inexplicable hand footage and DEFINITELY not enough inexplicable foot handage.

Let's punctuate every bullet point with a dramatic zoom-in!

I thought that was hilarious.

kingarthur! I'm so glad to see you keeping your sense of humour. How are you doing?

Thanks for checking in!
Nikon - 2016-09-05
I hope they were able to kill the cancer and that you're not feeling too awful.
kingarthur - 2016-09-07
Nope, still dying from it as far as I know BUUUUUUT I have a PET scan tomorrow and a consultation with my primary oncologist the following Monday so we'll see what's happening then. I was told pretty definitively that I'm terminal. I should roughly be at the point where I have 13 months left but we won't know until I talk to the doctor. I hope that the PET scan tells us I can take at least somewhat of a break from chemo because that shit is awful.

TeenerTot - 2016-09-05
I was just thinking about you lately. Thanks for poking in for a bit.

I'm glad you're able to do these updates. Thinking about you dude.

I spend a few months away and you assholes gave Kingarthur cancer?! Keep on keeping on, mate. I'll be cheering for you!
rustedmutt - 2016-09-05
I feel like I want to draw something for you...it's pretty much all I can do with any sort of competency. Do you have any favorite characters/fandoms/animals/themes?

Thank you for the update...keep fighting!
kingarthur - 2016-09-07
I like owls like that one kid likes turtles. They start out cute and then turn majestic and deadly.

rustedmutt - 2016-09-07
You got it!

gmol - 2016-09-05
Fuck this fuck face.
"NP, Oncology"....go fuck yourself, your pretend degree and your entitlement to dole out advice without a critical understanding of anything.

KA, the last video about the pain of swallowing was terribly painful to even think about. Has there been any improvement in the ability to eat?
RedRust - 2016-09-06
Mid level practitioners have their place in the health care arena. That being said, this guys' patient education skills suck.

kingarthur - 2016-09-07
YES! We reduced all my chemo drugs by 25% across the board and found the culprit of the mucositis (mouth ulcers, etc) that was keeping me from eating is the 5-FU.

THIS TIME I DIDN'T GET IT, just some serious dry mouth. So yeah, it's working out.

Still got dat cancer dough.

misterbuns - 2016-09-05
Thanks for the update. You don't know me, but I'm sorry you're going through this.

This condescending shithead is awful.
kingarthur - 2016-09-07
My oncologists and my psychiatric and diabetes NPs don't talk to me like this. They're just like: keep your blood sugar below 200 and you've already lost 30 pounds, soooooo......no big whup.

The Mothership - 2016-09-06

Hey man....

Are you gonna live? Please tell me you have a chance.
kingarthur - 2016-09-07
See above. (from what they tell me, no, it's gonna get me eventually as the chances of healing completely from stage 4 esophageal cancer are about 1% but I have probably over a year before that happens).

That guy - 2016-09-06
hey kingarthur

I told pupinia stewart about your problem, and she started crying and blamed a wizard for cursing a cartoon aardvark for some reason.

So..... I hope that helps??

Do you want to do a special activity of some sort?
Punch a clown day or something?
I will literally plant a motherfucking tree in your honor.
kingarthur - 2016-09-07
Pupinia Stewart knows who I am? Awesome. Tell her I think she's turning into a great comic.

Maybe punch a tree? Plant a tree and punch it when it gets older to teach it that life is sometimes a kick in the nuts?

I dunno.

But yeah, a wizard may have done this to me. That or several jobs where there were no formal lunch breaks ever and I had to eat whatever I ate very, very fast. They say that if you don't smoke or drink regularly that the culprit of this sort of thing is likely acid reflux even if you don't feel it (and I didn't).

That guy - 2016-09-12
I'll punch a tree, bro.
Are we doing this???

Glad you're still around, and that you liked Ghostbusters. Five stars for being alive, may skip the video.
kingarthur - 2016-09-07
Ghostbusters was fun. I think the problem people had is that it basically xeroxed the story beats from the original beat for beat, even if they couldn't articulate this.

Rodents of Unusual Size - 2016-09-07
I hope you are keeping your spirits up and still laughing as much as you can. The world is a good place with you in it.
kingarthur - 2016-09-07
Feeling good for now. Be careful on the Iraqi border!

kingarthur - 2016-09-07
For the record, my experience with chemo brain has been very slight emotional instability brought on by exhaustion and stress, anxiety, and then LOOOOOOTS of hand and muscle tremors, but none that are very dramatic.
rustedmutt - 2016-09-09
As requested, here are some owls. :)

Kennifu - 2016-10-03
Take care Kingarthur
