I would love so much to see some old 8mm film of a hardcore 50s goth complaining that posers like Coven and Alice Cooper were ruining the scene.
Miss Henson's 6th grade class
The goth scene's actually undead, and can't be killed.
jangbones
adults talk about this

at length
mosif
This is almost like listening to an old age raver. The only difference is that, for whatever reason, ravers grow out of the 'this isn't a phase mom' way of dressing.

Maggot Brain
"undiverse"
Cena_mark
Is she actually English or is putting on a dumb accent a goth thing to do?
1394
Brummie

Cena_mark
Whatever, they call fries chips and chips crisps. They talk stupid. Brummie is just a subset of stupid. I also hate some of these yankee accents.

Miss Henson's 6th grade class
Sounded like Nico to me. But yes, it is.

Maggot Brain
I think she's trying for that 'ol Trans Atlantic accent.

EvilHomer
And you call lorries trucks and the WC the shitter. Who's the stupid one now?

EvilHomer
Anyways, a bit of sleuthing reveals that she's from Worcester. So, English, but not the "better part" of England. (the Midlands are basically the English version of the South)

Old_Zircon
I thought you meant the OTHER Worcester for a second there.

EvilHomer
You mean WOOSta? WOOsta is Worcester's namesake, and the apple did not fall far from the tree.

Old_Zircon
I wonder if they still have the second highest rate of Juggalism in the USA (after Detroit).

EvilHomer
Do they?! Oh man. Do you have any sources on that? I wouldn't be surprised, but I'd have thought the biggest pockets of Juggalosm are located out in deep meth country.

EvilHomer
Couldn't find any statistics on juggalos in Worcester, but I did find this:

http://www.floatingsheep.org/2014/04/are-there-really-more-jug galos-than.html

EvilHomer
The link itself is pretty stupid, but the broader implications of the matter - "there are more juggalos than polar bears" - is well worth considering.

Old_Zircon
I'll try to find the source, I read it in like 2008.

Old_Zircon
No luck yet, but I did find numerous sources quoting Violent J citing Worcester as probably the best town in the country for them.

EvilHomer
In fairness to Mr J, The Palladium*is* pretty fucking awesome.

Stupid British can't even spell ASS right

tl;dw "Ass" is just a prissy euphemism for "arse".

Old_Zircon
An old girlfriend of mine who has a PhD in English Renaissance literature (i.e. is unemployed) once told me that the British spellings of words were a top-down change made to the language after the American revolution by the British aristocracy to differentiate them from the inferior Americans. No idea if it's true or just some linguist's pet theory she picked up.

Monkey Napoleon
Nothing against people who want to dress a certain way or listen to certain music or find a certain kind of aesthetic enjoyable...

But wanting to shape your entire existence around a certain specific theme like "goth" (or "punk" or whatever) and looking down on people who don't conform to certain arbitrary standards of that theme seems really... petty. If you only enjoy some of the things I enjoy then you're worse than someone who doesn't enjoy any of them? What? Tell me the truth, you're just a really old looking high school kid right?
Miss Henson's 6th grade class
I actually thought that the preview was some sort of computer-generated art. Girlfriend does not look real. But she also sort of looks like the world's spookiest mime.

I was doing some tedious work at home and knowing that my reward was a video called "Cybergoth - Is It Killing The Goth Scene? " made it bearable.

That said, I couldn't get more than 5 minutes in, but still.
EvilHomer
Just listen to it in the background as you get stuff done. That's how I get through all of my tedious housework!

15th
Ohhhhh, I like that idea.

Dr Robot
Yeah bro, it's the only way to keep up on the subjects in our zoo here. PoeTV can also be a podcast.

cognitivedissonance
Feel free to dress however you like. Get facial tattoos so every time you get pulled over the cop knows to punch out a tail light.
Cena_mark
What about neck tattoos?

THE GOTH SCENE IS READING WUTHERING HEIGHTS UNDER A GOTHIC ARCH!
Caminante Nocturno
I'm not going to watch this because I read the title and imagined that Cybergoth was the name of a rampaging robot wreaking bloody havoc on the goth scene.

There's no way this video is going to live up to that.

5 stars, though.
Mr. Purple Cat Esq.
5 bags of popcorn for that comment!

ashtar.
The Cybergoths are sacking TechnoRome!

bawbag
Spooky McDoot!
EvilHomer
Would.
EvilHomer
I'm glad there's still a niche market for Trad Goth and I hope they can preserve their heritage, but honestly, it's no wonder bleep-bloop is taking over, because Bauhaus sucks pretty hard.

jangbones
Bela Lugosi is alive again and he is going to kick your ass now

EvilHomer
I tried liking them, I really did. Couldn't do it.

I'll give them this much: they're better than Rozz Williams-era Christian Death. That's not saying much, but at least it's something.

EvilHomer
Fuck, Rozz was the worst. The. Worst. I'd even take ICP over Christian Death.

I think that was the main problem with Trad Goth, and the main hurdle for their continued existence. Clearly, the fashion is timeless - it keeps cropping up again and again, what with cybergoth, and emo, and the scene scene, and whatever the fuck my kid sister listens to these days, BotDF and so forth. But the MUSIC; my God! Some of it was good. Some of the crossover stuff was downright brilliant. But when goth music sucks, it sucks HARD. Trad Goth bands go all-out on being unlistenable and unlikeable, so it's naturally going to be hard for kids today, growing up on more ear-friendly stuff like BotDF, to get into the traditional stuff.

I imagine it's the same way the old German polka scene felt once the Polka Pioneers moved to America and had kids - kids who were growing up, not with oldschool polka, but with rock & roll.

Old_Zircon
It's worth pointing out that legit cybergoth apparently includes "dressing like the shift manager at a tech support call center."

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rbc4jj7h3Tw

(VNV Nation literally invented the term "futurepop")
Nominal
Goth is still around? I thought it got absorbed into emo, which has pretty much been absorbed into hipsterdom.
Miss Henson's 6th grade class
Wasn't "cybergoth" what people did when the Matrix was big, along with fluorescent-green hair doodles?

StanleyPain
Cybergoth isn't killing the goth scene, SHITTY MUSIC IS.

Ok, we get it...you like Hitler and Propellerhead Reason.
Stopheles
Wait, so she ISN'T cybergoth? With her Manic Panic pink hair and green lipstick that likely both glow under blacklight? She looks like she's trying to be Nik AND Mrs. Fiend at the same time.
EvilHomer
The trained eye can tell that she's not cybergoth, due to the vest, the lack of hair extensions, and having no face-mask, amongst other things.

John Holmes Motherfucker
I only listened long enough to hear her contract cybergoths (not as clue what that means) and "more traditional goths", but that was AWESOME! Five stars for TRADITIONAL GOTHS!

https://youtu.be/6nwj8nAYEM4
EvilHomer
It's one of at least a couple dozen subsets of goth, sort of a cross between trad goth, rivet heads, and ravers (very ravey, albeit a little less so than perky goths). They tend to incorporate more colors into their outfits than their conservative goth cousins, and are well-known for their elaborate hair styles and preference for dance music over gloomy art-rock. Lots of other goths hate them, because a) they are popular (which is problematic, not just "because hipster", but also because of the subject of this video, the issue of cultural displacement), and b) there tends to be a lot of musical friction between cybers and other goth communities (with the possible exception of goth lolita and juggalettes).

They did this with Mansonites and emos, too, but cybergoths seem to be having a harder time achieving full social integration.

EvilHomer
If you'd like to know more, the most famous cybergoth is probably Triplesix. MySpace model, celebrity spokeswoman, and succesful hair-extension entrepreneur, you've probably

EvilHomer
seen her judging the Miss Juggalette Pageant at the GotJ each year.

Old_Zircon
What about Sun Goth, EH? I kept hearing about Sun Goth around 2012-2013 but I don't know anything about it.
