Good lord, 2016 has been shitty.
craptacular
can't wait for this year's Screenwipe from Charlie Brooker, it's gonna be a good one.

Binro the Heretic
Or it's just going to be Brooker sitting in a room, shaking his head and occasionally throwing up his hands in the "What the fuck?" gesture.

simon666
Alternatively, Brooker just sitting in a room occasionally throwing up in his hands.

Infinite Zest's 2016:

After a oretty good January and 2015, in which I met a gal I plan on staying with, landed the closest thing to a dream job as I can really see myself doing, and finally curbing my heavy drinkinng habit of 20 years, I found myself getting really sick right around my birthday in February. I figured it was nothing but my parents insisted that I go to the hospital, where it was discovered that I had a UTI that had since become infected with complications from aforementioned decades of aWithout the immediate care I received, I would've died within a few weeks. I spent the next 4 months on my back in the worst pain I've ever experienced (and I've got shitty teeth and a lot of cavities) and lost about 55lbs, 180lbs to 125. But eventually I got back to "normal.."

I had lost my job, mostly because I didn't want to admit to having a chronic alcohol disease and all of my friends slowly faded away.

Like many people, I spent about a month off the wagon before giving in (again) to my addiction: people quit and start back up all the time with no consequences, but basically what was the culmination of years of abuse manifested itself again in like 2 weeks. My girlfriend stuck with me during this time, but I'd have to lie all the time with excuses for why I couldn't hang out, vomiting every day, often in public, even though technically I wasn't "sick"., Summer 2016 was a haze of general drunkenness (although a fraction of what I was drinking before) and I saw no light at the end of the tunnel except for my inevitable death, which I figured would happen by the end of the summer, and in addition to alcohol developed an addiction to Oxycontin, Ketamine and Heroin.

And THEN, about 4 months ago I woke up to what smelled like a campfire. In less than a minute it was obvious it was an uncontrollable apartment fire. I still have no idea who it started, possibly an electric blanked that maybe have accidentally turned itself on, who knows? My apartment literally exploded before I had time to think, and I was homeless with nothing but a pair of long underwear to my name. Luckily my parents also live in Portland, so I had a place to stay, but I was suffering from some serious fucking PTSD. THEN after a few days at home, I was shopping for my mom's birthday present, and a store accused me of shoplifting. Searched my bag and found nothing, but I was still pissed. SO pissed, in fact, that I went back to the store in the middle of the night and set the place on fire. Luckily I'm a shitty arsonist and there was apparently no fire damage, but the cops were pretty much on the scene when I was still trying to stomp out the fire. Oh yeah and they found Ketamine and Oxy on my person, both schedule 2 narcotics here in the states. And so I went to Jail.

My sentence was pretty lenient; about 3 1/2 months and a pre-release was all, since I was clearly suffering from PTSD as well as a psychotic break due to high levels of ammonia in my system. I'm thankful every day for the Judge who heard my case, and eventually got the Arson charges dropped (as opposed to Arson 2, which probably would've meant I'd be saying hi to you guys in about 10 years from now). In Jail however I was literally saved, not my Christ or anything else, but by the Doctors who held my hand every step of the way, leaving me coming out feeling better than I've felt in probably the last 5 years. And I now receive Social Security Insurance which means I won't go broke, food stamps which mean I won't go hungry, etc.. so everything in the last 4 weeks since I got out has been pretty positive. And THEN..

And Then Last Tuesday Happened. Thanks for listening.

Bobonne
We still love you, Zesty.

Stay strong. We'll get through this.

Oscar Wildcat
Wow! You're like the entire United States of America in micro-form.

15th
Holy shit. That's one for the books. I wish you the best. Take care of yourself!

infinite zest
Thanks everyone! Love you all! Like I said I'm 200% stronger leaving this fucking year than when I entered it. I thought about y'all a lot when I was in jail, especially because most of the TV we watched was either Cops (yes, it's still on the air) or the News as I saw the logical conclusion of Trump as actually being prez. Seems like something I would've hopped on, but I'll be around a lot more these days!

January von Rodeo
I got dx'd with schizophrenia this year and reality has been almost as confusing as the episode. Psychosis is no joke I hope things go better for you.

John Holmes Motherfucker
Congratulations on being a shitty arsonist. And, I'm guessing, on being white.

If anyone offers you help while you're having a hard time, I'd consider it a personal favor if you take it.

TeenerTot
IZ, take care of yourself. I like having you around.

15th
IZ, maybe you should write a book? You obviously have the output and very interesting stories. Could be a healthy, cathartic project.

infinite zest
Thanks! Yeah, I did a lot of writing in jail, but for some reason I never like how it sounds; "own worst critic" syndrome I guess: I read it back and think "that's too David Foster Wallace/Thomas Pynchon/Tom Wolfe etc." and that's usually the end of it, but it's not like those (and every writer for that matter) don't have their own influences and often wear them on their sleeves (see 'Broom of the System) so I dunno! For now it's just stuff that's sitting in a John Kenedy Tool-esque mess up in my childhood bedroom, but if I ever hit the big time, I'll made sure that Fat Chicks in Party Hats finally gets the recognition it deserves. :)

infinite zest
Oh and @JHM: This Cracka is receiving so much support, from my family, the community at large, etc. and although it's true that I literally wasn't in my right mind, there's not a moment that goes by where I don't consider what may have happened if I was from a different socioeconomic upbringing, if I was black, the list goes on and on. But the perspective I gained has been worth so much more than the jailtime I spent - both my public defender and the judge himself had had their own trouble with the law from what they tell me, so I'm seriously considering going down a legal path of my own, to fight for justice where the little/poor/black guy gets little, etc.

2017 will probably suck too if that GitS trailer's any indication, but Zest's got a few tricks up his sleeve yet.

Old_Zircon
IZ, glad you're back.

M-DEEM
If you ever find yourself back in Madison and need support there is a big recovery community here. AA,NA, CR, LGBTQ, religious, non-affiliated, whatever you like. I would very gladly introduce you to some solid people. My best to you!

exy
Of all IZ's tales, my favorite is the one where he managed to get rehabilitation out of the American justice system.

Glad you're back around, IZ!

erratic
Hey IZ, sorry to hear about your setbacks but I'm glad to hear things are turning around for you. I've been worried and thinking about you. I actually teared up a few months ago when you peeked in here and let us know you're alive.

I just moved to Portland and I remember a while you back you said something about being interested in 3D animation or digital sculpture or something like that. That's pretty much what I do so if you'd ever like to meet up just email me. ryankittleson@gmail.com no worries if you don't feel like meeting some weirdo off the internet, I know how it is.

John Holmes Motherfucker
>>>Oh and @JHM: This Cracka is receiving so much support, from my family, the community at large, etc. and although it's true that I literally wasn't in my right mind, there's not a moment that goes by where I don't consider what may have happened if I was from a different socioeconomic upbringing,

I know the feeling, brother. Believe me when I tell you.

It's also good that you appreciate when you're being treated fairly. That's always going to work in your favor. Get all the help you can, be grateful, and maybe someday you'll get to help someone else. I'm only going to get cornier if I try to tell you what that's meant to me, and nobody wants to see that.

Lef
Glad you're back Zest.

John Oliver works for HBO which is owned by Time Warner which was Hillary Clinton's ninth largest contributor according to opensecrets.org.

Perhaps if John Oliver and the media channels Time Warner owns didn't promote Hillary Clinton over other candidates during the primaries and then later make it seem her victory was inevitable, maybe Trump wouldn't have won.

If Trump is a racist and fascist, why did CNN and other media companies broadcast his rallies live? They never have felt the need to interrupt regular news to give groups like the KKK an open platform.

In a leaked email, Hillary Clinton's staff stated: "We need to be elevating the Pied Piper candidates (Trump, Cruz, and Carson) so that they are leaders of the pack and tell the press to take them seriously."

Elevate Trump they did, and their collusion has backfired in the most awful way possible.
SolRo
You know what's a fact?

That if you Bern idiots actually voted for her, instead of protest voting or just staying home, she would have won.

Same as 2000 and 2004.

You fucking idiots help ruin the country with your 'purity or fuck it' ideology

William Burns
Maybe she should have tried not being a fucking Republican for two seconds. Name one thing Trump is going to do that Hillary didn't have planned. Obama deported more people than Trump will ever be able to, and at least a wall would be a huge public works project

(Note:I did vote Hillary but it doesn't matter because California)

Potrod
Have you seen the names Trump is throwing around to appoint to various positions? I guess those aren't set in stone but it's not looking good. I doubt Hillary would have had a climate change denier in charge of the EPA.

William Burns
Hillary's pro-fracking. She's exporting Fracking. Her environmental policies are awful and the fact that she's a democrat means it splits the natural opposition to them.

Xenocide
Cool, bro. While Trump fills his cabinet with actual neo-nazis and people who want to torture gay children, you keep running your mouth about how Hillary liked fracking. That really justifies everything.

If anyone was still buying into the idea that the Berniebros believed in a single thing Sanders stands for, that died the moment he asked them to support Hillary and they responded by becoming de facto Trump surrogates.

William Burns
Maybe she should have campaigned to her base instead of trying to win over Rust-Belt Republican voters. These people know what NAFTA is and where it came from. She did win the popular vote, though, so don't get too salty.

teethsalad
no voters owe any candidate anything. if a candidate fails to get enough of the vote, it's on the candidate, not the voters. heaven forbid she should have thought about remaining electable for the decades she was dead certain about running for office, instead of taking cash from anybody who would cut a big enough check. instead of actually responding to the electorate she's supposed to be representing and communicating what an effective plan to raise their standards of living we got shitty memes and half-assed guilt trips instead of a clear, concise vision of america's future. She had the wind at her back - she rigged the DNC in her own favor, had the support of large swaths of the media, an ungodly huge pile of money, and a great deal of other advantages she squandered out of pure hubris. But if you wanna still blame bernie sanders supporters (who, for the most part, including bernie, elizabeth warren, and what's left of the progressives fell into line for clinton) for dirty donnie diamonds, instead of the person who actually lost - lost to DONALD FUCKING TRUMP - go ahead, knock yourself out

Nominal
no voters owe any candidate anything!

No man owes anyone the sweat from his own brow!

No sentence deserves capitalization!

SolRo
Because it's all a game teethsalad!

It's not peoples lives, its American Idol, boring politics edition!

If Hilldawg didn't do a good enough rap to get you off your ass and text your vote, who cares if Double D Trump wins the contest? It's all just a game, and you're white and straight and/or rich enough that it wont affect you either way! Isn't that nice?

Spaceman Africa
if Hillary wanted to win so badly maybe she shouldn't have ran the worst possible campaign in terms of attracting voters in years

SolRo
fuck it.

let it burn.

Nominal
"I'm not going to vote for anyone if no candidate isn't nearly absolutely perfect" is myopic ideologue shit.

You vote for the candidate that's even 1% better than the other and over time get the better government. The idea that both parties are exactly the same is insane.

Thinking that not voting and letting the system burn will have the party running back and begging for your vote is some going Galt delusion.

John Holmes Motherfucker
I nearly knocked myself out just trying to read teethsalad's prose.

A conservative on Twitter, who I had a really nice civil conversation with, by the way, explained that people voted for Trump because "they're tired of false promises".

So they voted for a guy who promised them the economic equivalent of the moon and the stars with no pain, and who has a weird pattern of actually denying things that he just said. I don't think it's going to work out for them.

The voted are owed what they voted for. I think this time, they voted for a good hard rodgering.

>>>instead of actually responding to the electorate she's supposed to be representing and communicating what an effective plan to raise their standards of living we got shitty memes and half-assed guilt trips instead of a clear, concise vision of america's future

That sentence kind of turns around and attacks himself. How concise do you want?

>>>She had the wind at her back - she rigged the DNC in her own favor, had the support of large swaths of the media, an ungodly huge pile of money, and a great deal of other advantages she squandered out of pure hubris

Hillary Clinton's hubris was being the most qualified candidate in a year when no one cared about qualifications.

The DNC favored Clinton over Sanders because Sanders had been been a Democrat for about 15 minutes. The Republicans showed the same favoritism to their establishment candidates, but Trump overcame that.

>>>But if you wanna still blame bernie sanders supporters (who, for the most part, including bernie, elizabeth warren, and what's left of the progressives fell into line for clinton)

I mostly blame the Trump supporters.

People hate the such supporters because they were such complete assholes on the internet. They came off just like conservatives, repeating canned out-of-context talking points about "superpredators" from a 20 year old speech. Instead of using "THE LIBERAL MEDIA" as an all purpose explanation for why everyone else was brainwashed, it was "THE CORPORATE MEDIA", and some of them absolutely did threaten to go with Trump if the Democratic Party didn't do their bidding, even though. So, you know, fuck them.

The Sanders people did do something amazing hat should have been important, they could have been a real force, a real American left at last. And they pissed that away.

Now, it's possible that Hillary discouraged an alliance with the Bernie people because she didn't want to risk the association with SOCIALISM. Well, if that's the case, okay, fuck her, too.

John Holmes Motherfucker
People hate the such supporters because they were such complete assholes on the internet.

Screaming Lord Sutch was running this time?

John Holmes Motherfucker
All this finger pointing is very unattractive. The Republicans just elected an incompetent gasbag. They're describing the cabinet selection as "a knife fight" Let's get ready for this guy to start tripping over his own dick.

Bort
To BernieBro jackasses, it's not a matter of voting for the better candidate because it actually impacts peoples' lives, it's a matter of being properly courted before they put out with their vote. Because elections are really about THEM and not about the country.

Well congrats guys: because you don't actually give a shit about anything but yourselves, the competent and more or less sane candidate lost to the guy endorsed by the KKK.

"But Killary supports fracking11111!1!!" So does Trump, plus he's likely to roll back every other effort we make to address climate change. If you actually gave a damn climate change -- IF -- you would have made sure Trump never got into office. But this isn't about Trump, it's about YOU.

Pillager
Wait. I was supposed to vote for Hillary, the unlikable deceitful neoliberal warhawk who couldn't wait to sell us out? Um. No.

The final nail in her coffin was that stupid 'basket of deplorables' jab. Because insulting people is best way to persuade them to see things your way...

If the Democratic party can't civilly talk to red state working class people then it belongs in the Smithsonian.

Bort
Hillary was the most honest candidate out there, and if you don't like being sold out, well, that's exactly what you got with Trump. Hillary was likely to at least preserve the gains the Democrats have made over the past 50 years, and you chose instead to reverse them.

Hillary vs. Trump wasn't a difficult choice at all, and yet you somehow got it wrong. Oh wait, she is "unlikable". I guess that's what REALLY matters.

Old_Zircon
The preceding thread is a solid example of why Trump won.

Old_Zircon
Well, that and voter purges.

15th
People should pony-up and enthusiastically support candidates that don't represent their personal values, because that's progressive democracy of the highest order.

Anyone who votes for someone that could lose or refuses to lend support to what they feel is morally corrupt is A SELFISH BABY. The only way we'll get a progressive government is if we continue to lower the Coke/Pepsi bar each 4 years until the candidates are even more indistinguishable.

Anyone who votes third party because they found a candidate that best represents their ideals does not understand how democracy works. Democracy grinning ear to ear while slamming your dick in a drawer. GROW UP.

Yeah, real honest.

Bort
Fact-checkers have looked at what Hillary said vs. Bernie and the other dwarves, and Hillary came out as most honest.

Also, I call bullshit on your faux outrage over people having public and private stances. OF COURSE THEY DO. Even all of us private citizens control what we're saying based on who is listening. Any politician who pretends NOT to have public and private stances is a liar of the highest order.

Gmork
Jesus fucking christ, Bort, I voted for your awful, awful candidate Hillary in this election. Shut the fuck up about it, you goddamned crybaby.

BHWW
As a senator Hillary championed the Iraq war, and helped get reluctant liberals on board with Bush, which helped give the impression that the Iraq invasion had solid bipartisan support. She even defended her role in this during the 2008 Dem primary, refusing to repudiate her Iraq War vote for the entirety of the campaign, because her squad had crunched the numbers and decided that it would be a strategic loss for her to do so. She did finally admit her vote was a “mistake,” when she made the disclosure in her 2014 memoir that barely anybody read. She called it a "mistake", so whoopsie daisy, I helped launch an illegal war that's repercussions are still being felt through the world, even as Iraq War 3.0 grinds on. Just call her Mrs. Butterfingers, clumsy Hill.

She learned nothing of course, under her the State Department agitated for intervention in Libya on the basis of a "humanitarian crisis", that Qadaffi was getting ready to wipe out a whole city and unleash his troops upon the populace, risible claims with no evidence being made and regurgitated by members of the press that the US and NATO had to intervene because, among others, Libyan forces were being
equipped with Viagra pills in order to help them carry out mass rapes. The evidence that Qadaffi's forces were getting ready to do any of this turned out to be as vaporous as Saddam's WMDs. This was all a result of the State Dept. policy in the wake of the Arab Spring, let's help uproot these secular strongmen and make alliances with so-called "moderate" Islamic rebels who will pinky-swear they'll hold elections and let women vote and everything when they come to power. What could possibly go wrong?

"We came, we saw, he died" she chuckled about the leader of a foreign state being sodomized with a blade. Hillary still insists that the 2011 Libya intervention was a great success, even though it’s thrown the country into chaos, imploded its civil society, and allowed groups like Islamic State to gain footholds. Even recently, there were a series of underreported NATO airstrikes against ISIS targets in Libya, you know, targets that weren't there a few years ago until the government was decimated and separate groups kept claiming to be the true Libyan gov and the misery that has regular Libyan civilians wishing Qadaffi was still in charge.

She also agitated for the Afghanistan troop surge of 2009 over the objections Obama administration members like Biden and got her wish. The result: 2010 was the worst year on record for US casualties in Afghanistan.

She agitated for arming the so-called “moderates” in Syria, and was displeased with members of the Obama administration's reluctance to engage more forcefully in Syria, including Obama himself. Now of course, those moderates are dominated by Al-Qaeda.

She called for the US to arm Ukrainian forces in a yet another proxy war against Russia, once again over the objections of Obama and other members of the administration, she and others clutching to phony reports of massive Russian military buildups and fantastical new high-tech battle tanks and so on.

She has threatened to put a ring of missile defense around China, and vowed to "crush" Iran. She demands another “No Fly Zone” in Syria even though the previous one she had demanded in Libya was proven to be a ruse and an excuse for regime change, with the added bonus of potentially putting the US in conflict with Russia.

She has called for “cyber attacks” to be treated identically to attacks on US physical infrastructure and spent much of her campaign antagonizing Russia, making implicit threats of military response to Russia; one of the central themes of her campaign was propagating conspiracy theories about Kremlin subversion of the US electoral process. Conspiracy theories favored by both members of her camp and groups like neo-conservatives who think a New Cold War would be just the thing, no matter the risks of putting a strain on US-Russia relations.

Speaking of neoconservatives, she allied with and praised Bush-era neocons like Paul Wolfowitz, Bill Kristol, Robert Kagan (who apparently thought Obama was just a big sissy for not wanting to risk war with Russia over Syria), and wormy keyboard commando pundit Max Boot who has never met a US he wouldn't say required more money and resources devoted to it. He was also one of the "intellectual" architects of the Iraq War and the phony "case" made for it. So she aligned herself with some of the people who helped bring about one of the most catastrophic military interventions in decades.

Oh, and she touted receiving the support of Henry Kissinger.

Also, she helped enable a military coup in Honduras.

https://www.thenation.com/article/how-hillary-clinton-militari zed-us-policy-in-honduras/

Her record is a long string of foreign policy blunders and failures that have resulted in misery around the world and bad consequences for the US. Her foreign policy record was one of incompetence and reckless misuse of power.

So I'd say that was one reason not to vote for her. I suppose that makes people like me who objected to her warmongering ways some sort of "moralfags" or whatevs.

Gmork
Uh, actually Hillary did not come out as "more honest" than Bernie. Unless you think that politifact is run by the JEW MEDIA and is totally untrustworthy I'm not sure what hill-dawg echo chamber you're getting your numbers from.

Pillager
'Fact-checkers have looked at what Hillary said vs. Bernie and the other dwarves, and Hillary came out as most honest.'

Seriously? Drop the pitcher of Flavor Aid, Bort.

Explain how Hillary called the late, unlamented TPP the "Gold Standard" in a now redacted chapter in her book & later on claimed ambivalence on the topic... Can't wait for your spin on that one.

Hilldog was doomed from the start. We told you so.

Sanest Man Alive
It was entirely Clinton's race to lose. She really couldn't be more appealing to her own party voters or undecideds than an ambulatory orange middle finger was to Republicans.

Moreover, Clinton was the scion of the steadily creeping center-right Dem establishment and their media outlets. It wasn't just Clinton out of touch, it was the entire party leadership and their PR machine. Fuck all of them, and if there's one meagre silver lining to this horror show, it's their credibility vaporizing overnight.

If the Democrat party was serious about moving forward and taking back ground, every fucking member of DNC leadership should have resigned or slit their own throats on Wednesday.

Old_Zircon
Just leaving this here:

https://brettschenker.com/2016/11/10/no-third-party-candidates -did-not-cost-clinton-the-presidency/

Old_Zircon
I voted for Clinton in the general. But the idea that third party candidates cost her the election is simply bullshit.

John Holmes Motherfucker
>>>no voters owe any candidate anything.

But apparently Hillary Clinton is supposed to turn down a shitload of money for making a speech, because it's something she OWES THE VOTERS.

This whole thing points to a huge systemic problem, but without a real quid pro, this has an appearance of impropriety. I would turn down that much money for a real ethical impropriety, but not just for the appearance of one.

John Holmes Motherfucker
>>>*Clinton: “But If Everybody's Watching, You Know, All Of The Back Room Discussions And The Deals, You Know, Then People Get A Little Nervous, To Say The Least. So, You Need Both A Public And A Private Position.”*

>>>Yeah, real honest.

Grow the fuck up. I can't even.

John Holmes Motherfucker
If you voted for Jill Stein and you don't feel bad about it, you will. I don't need to tell you anything. It isn't until I start hearing about this wouldn't have happened if they hadn't stolen the nomination from Bernie that I start wanting to tell my fellow citizens to enjoy a munchy crunchy chocolately bag of dicks.

John Holmes Motherfucker
>>>People should pony-up and enthusiastically support candidates that don't represent their personal values, because that's progressive democracy of the highest order.

The world isn't always going to represent your values. That's because other people live here. They also get to vote.

You're not supposed to enthusiastically support candidates that don't represent their personal values, you're just supposed to drag your ass to the polls, and pull the lever, or punch the card.

If you voted for Hillary Clinton, God Bless you, sir. Complain all you like.

John Holmes Motherfucker
>>>Explain how Hillary called the late, unlamented TPP the "Gold Standard" in a now redacted chapter in her book & later on claimed ambivalence on the topic... Can't wait for your spin on that one.

She found out her voters didn't agree, and she changed her position.
What are you, six?

Bort
"So I'd say that was one reason not to vote for her. I suppose that makes people like me who objected to her warmongering ways some sort of "moralfags" or whatevs."

No, you are a "moralfag" or whatevs because you believe any bullshit that supports your "moralfaggotry". For example, Libya: it was the Arab League -- the Arab League -- that first came to the UN with worries about Gadaffi massacring his citizens, looking for some way to protect them. You say now that it was all lies, because of course there's no way to prove otherwise and isn't that convenient. However, the concerns at the time were legit and they were not raised by the US or by US cronies.

Or that comment about attacking Iran came from a speech where she was saying that, IF Iran attacked Israel, then she would attack Iran back. You can argue that we should cut Israel loose, but only the shittiest of "moralfags" or whatev would strip out the context like it didn't matter.

Or that "military coup" that Hillary "enabled" in the Honduras: the coup in question was instigated by the Honduran Supreme Court in response to the Honduran president defying one of their rulings, and Hillary's "enabling" of said situation consisted primarily of not reinstating a president who was no longer eligible for the presidency. What Hillary supported was holding a new round of elections, WHAT A FUCKING MONSTER.

In any event, you've got Trump now, and if you think pressing for free elections in a politically-tumultuous nation is bad, you can almost certainly expect worse from Trump. I'm sure you'll be fine with that, though.

Pillager
"Grow the fuck up. I can't even."

No, boo boo. I didn't like the way the 90's turned out. Just say no to Cold War Relics.

'If you voted for Jill Stein and you don't feel bad about it, you will. '

No, I am still laughing my ass off at all the Ess Jay Dubs who won't stop rioting & shitting themselves over Trump.

Had Shrillary been elected TPP & a war with Russia would have wrecked us.

Would have been nice if she'd done more press conferences or campaigned harder in Red States. But that's what happens when you feel entitled to the Presidency.

"She found out her voters didn't agree, and she changed her position.

Do you have Alzheimer's? I'm not supporting the sequel to NAFTA.

She had other problems, too. Shame you didn't pay attention to all the people who warned you that Hillary's campaign was doomed.

Jesus, is there no real comedy on the tv anymore? It is like I am watching bullying instead of comedy. When Trump started his campaign, I thought he was an asshole and an idiot. Couldn't you just change the channel?

Here's the scoop on Trump: He's ridiculous. This is like the people who used to complain about the Daily Show having a vendetta against Sarah Palin, because they kept showing footage of Sarah Palin saying ridiculous things on camera. As if Jon Stewart could control who gets in front of a camera and says ridiculous things.

This is what happens when comedy shows are left to fill in for our toothless, spineless, dumbed-down news media. Trevor Noah, John Oliver, and Samantha Bee did a reasonably good of informing people, but it was never supposed to be their job.

there's no such thing as 2016. come and take a ride in my bong

And that pretty much sums it up.
John Holmes Motherfucker
What really sums it up for me here isn't so much insulting Hillary, and then criticising her for insulting people in trhe very next next paragraph. It's accusing her of being decietful, and then, in the very next paragraph, excoriating her for telling an uncomfortable truth.

It's certainly true that Hillary wasn't perfect, but if she had been perfect, I'm not convinced it would have made any difference with these people. She just couldn't win, because she was THE ESTABLISHMENT CANDIDATE. She thought that knowledge, and experience, and preexisting relationships with world leaders, and having already been vetted by congress god knows how man times, she imagined that these things were ADVANTAGES. That was her HUBRIS.

No one feels smarter than when they're using the word HUBRIS in a smug, superior way. We're all fed up with the old politics as usual. It hasn't succeeded in maklng the people we hate go away. We still have to compromise with people who we know are wrong. Think I'll vote for Bernie Sanders. Think I'll vote for Donald Trump. Fuck you, I'm voting for Jill Stein.

It really is true that the Democratic party has lost the knack of pandering to bigots. Back in the 50s, they would have been all over that. Like white on Uncle Ben's converted Rice.

Pillager
It's not an insult, it's a truthful observation.

"We cannot solve our problems with the same thinking we used when we created them." Einstein said that. Most Americans wanted a change for 2016. Shame the DNC didn't listen...

I do not want a Clinton dynasty. I not want a woman who called African Americans "Superpredators" in the Oval Office. Lastly, no one can list anything positive about her time as Secretary of State.

Hillary's hubris was that she thought that she was entitled to High Office. She didn't work hard enough for it or possess the charisma for the job. I hope the next woman who runs takes those lessons to heart.

OH, you not, not you ?
Well, fuck you, and the swift boat you rode in on.

Nothing made me hate the Bernie Babies more than this. "Superpredators" wasn't a racist dogwhistle dreamed up by campaign spin doctors. It was an (incorrect) alarmist theory that was pushed by criminologists and social scientists. Judging from the new york times video, the idea that it was influenced by racial anxieties seems to have come later on as an explanation when it didn't come to pass.

Some people think that she was being racist because she mentioned gangs, but to a middle-aged woman in the 1990s, the word "gangs" was as likely to evoke "West Side Story" as "gangsta rap"

"We cannot solve our problems with the same thinking we used when we created them."

Funny you should mention this, because this is the kind of swiftboat Republican attack bullshit that makes politics so loathsome for so many.
