I'm in a band called Federale. Think Godspeed You! Black Emperor mixed with Ennio Morricone, or something along those lines. I mostly just provide vocals and Bassoon, but it's one of those bands where every member assumes others' roles, so sometimes I'm the drummer, or just on stage getting rather ripped. If you're familiar with The Brian Jonestown Massacre, it's the bassist's product, we're just living in it. But I haven't even talked to anyone in the group (with the exception of my former maid of honor who has one of the best soprano voices in the country) for at least 5 years.. If you're familiar with the film 'A Girl Walks Home Alone At Night' (it's on Netflix check it out if you aren't) the band did the score for that, and I guess it's on a few episodes of 'Supernatural' as well. We were also used in a commercial for some Mexican Beer.. not Corona, maybe Dos Equis or Modelo, and when we heard that one of our songs ('War Cry') was prominently featured in The Lego Movie, well, can't speak for the rest of the band, but I shit a Lego brick. We're just some dirty hipsters from Portland Oregon and all of a sudden our song is being used in the top grossing film in America..

Anyway, I was pretty fucking excited for the checks that came in; I was lucky too because I am only on two tracks on the entire albbum but one of them The Lego Movie used, unbeknownst to ANY of us. And at first the $$$ wasn't all that bad: I was going through a rough time and spent most of my cut on fixing my car after my wife totalled it in a DUII, so I'm thankful for that, but we were supposed to get subsequent residual checks for DVDs, special Television Airings, etc.and Lego, now owned by practically nobody, didn't pay shit after that, despite making close to 500 million dollars. So anyway that's the scoop. I've worked on soundtracks for a couple other films too, like 'Nebraska' with my brother and 'Wild,' which are both actually good movies that should be watched and enjoyed responsibly by all.

Anyway long story short, it was like they had snuck the song in there and didn't think anybody in the band would ever find out. Kinda shitty.

Eh.. if it wasn't for someone informing me in the first place, I never would've known, but it's just kinda shitty ethics.. I like Will Arnett a lot and I guess it's cool to think that some people may have downloaded our song instead of that hyper-annoying "Everything Is Awesome.." I just freed up about 6TB so I might torrent it later today.

The Dark Knight was barely a superhero movie. It was a two-parter episode of Law & Order that happened to feature some shaky-cam footage of batman.

Oooh, you're so edgy by hating one of the greatest films ever made. Name the genre and it's easily the greatest in there, it's the greatest action, superhero, mystery, drama ever.

It's not the greatest Anime.
