Thrill! As a single party dominant state capitalist society censors foreign media as a threat to the upper class of party members!
EvilHomer

kingarthur
Yeah we censor our political parties and obstruct them via money, media, and the two party system.

Shame that Jill has to stoop to going on RT but a lot of real left thinkers do just so that these ideas can get heard somewhere.

StanleyPain
Too bad her "ideas" are complete and utter regressive garbage, not to mention pandering to the worst "keyboard warrior", ill-informed idiots that the internet has to offer.

Stein wasn't "censored", it's just that the vast majority of the people who used to support the Green Party have realized what a horrific waste of time they have become now that they support anti-science and anti-democratic propositions to maintain their fantasy, David Wolfe facebook meme based world view.

As much as I didn't like Sanders, he at least also didn't use right-wing nonsense founded in fiction (EMAILGHAZIGATE) to attack Clinton politically.

As an aside, RT is literally the modern day Pravda. Anyone using it as a news source or citing it or treating it as anything other than the Soviet-era-style propaganda garbage machine it is should never be taken seriously about anything ever and anyone willingly collaborating their staff is a fucking joke.

SolRo
it's always adorable when you see an American acting all outraged about Russian media while deluding themselves that their media isn't itself a massive propaganda machine printing state department memo's verbatim.

kingarthur
Points to SolRo.

I also think you're making a pretty sweeping generalization about Green party supporters that isn't based in fact, Stanley.

I understand how the Greens can look like that from the outside, given our culture's stereotypes about environmentalists. You gotta remember though that a lot of socialists support the Greens now as well.

kingarthur
I would really, really like it, however, if Stein and folks like Richard D. Wolff and Mark Ames would just boycott RT altogether though. I also understand that it's sometimes the only media coverage they can get outside of Democracy Now or The Young Turks.

EvilHomer
Hey SolRo, I'm still wondering why it is you attack Donald Trump and defend George Soros, despite the fact that Trump is openly pro-Russia (he wants to focus our bombing on Iran instead), and Soros was one of the key oligarchs behind the Maidan uprising (which, again, was only PARTIALLY Neo-Nazi in composition).

Also, what are your thoughts on Chechnya?

EvilHomer
CHINESE HACKERS

SolRo
"these plain clothes policemen, is what we only can assume they are"

There's nothing else they could be? Not party loyalists, not Chinese versions of trump voters, nothing else?

Where was the BBC when trump supporters were threatening and beating any opposition at their rallies? Oh right, BBC only likes to do the 'DEMOCRACY UNDER THREAT' reporting outside the NATO alliance countries.

simon666
So what's your point SolRo that the behavior is justified or because some other countries act badly that it's a push; moral equivalency?

Miss Henson's 6th grade class
I've read approximately a bazillion articles about what's wrong with American Democracy and the American Press over the last couple of years. Mostly not on ABC Nightly News, but certainly in widely distributed magazines. The people who covered Trump were extremely open about how poorly they were treated. That's not great, but it's a lot more than you'd get in a whole lot of other places. Care to claim that things are just as good in Russia, or are you going to bring up the Voice of America now?

SolRo
I'm not going to claim anything about Russia because I don't live there and I don't know how it 'really is' over there.

But I do know that the Russian government hasn't started/fomented 5+ wars in the last 20 years all while being cheerled by their major media with spoonfed government propaganda like America has.

And it's nice and all that some magazines in America are still able to shine light on that (as there are in Russia), but when all the major television news networks and major newspapers are towing the government line, it doesn't really ad up to anything worthwhile.

SolRo
and if you didn't notice, my comment was about the BBC, another news agency that loves to regurgitate its governments propaganda.

1394
Georgia, Ukraine, Chechnya (twice!), Syria, yeah you are right Russia hasn't started/fomented 5+ wars in the last 20 years all while being cheerled by their major media with spoonfed government propaganda

SolRo
Syria is completely the State Departments/CIA's baby.

Russia is defending a country it has an alliance with and important military outposts in it. That's more justification than America has funding, arming and training a bunch of terrorists to overthrow Syria. And unlike America/Turkey/Saudi Arabia, Russia actually has the legal right to be in the country, while the "defenders of freedom" are breaking international law by sending troops and conducting air raids in a sovereign nation.

Georgia was started by the idiotic Georgian president.

Ukraine was started by Americans and their support of a bunch of radical neo-Nazis overthrowing a lawfully elected government.

And you know nothing about Chechnya so you just best keep your fool mouth shut before you make yourself look dumber than you already have.

Also, what are your thoughts on Chechnya?

simon666
SolRol, what's the moral difference to you when X is true and both 'the media' and the government say X is true? Or likewise when X is false and both say X is false?

By your statements you seem to think anything said in virtue of coming from a government is nefarious such that if anyone concurs irrespective of the truth of the matter those who concur are also nefarious.

SolRo
The American government says only things that are true!

So implies simon666.

SolRo
But simon brings up a very good example of why americans are fuzzy and adorable.

They think their media being propaganda mouthpieces for their government is okay because (as far as they know) the government is mostly honest and loves freedom and something.

Of course, they are mostly too simple to understand that when the media is only a mouthpiece, you don't know when your government is lying or not.

simon666
Strawman: "They think their media being propaganda mouthpieces for their government is okay because (as far as they know) the government is mostly honest and loves freedom and something."

I'm not sure who you are referring to with "they" and I'm not sure why you are talking about "they" when it is I who asked you a specific question. To repeat, I asked you speak to a specific case, a case where the facts of the matter are X and when both the government (any government) says X and the media reports X. What do you take to be morally problematic about such a case?

You say "Of course, they are mostly too simple to understand that when the media is only a mouthpiece, you don't know when your government is lying or not."

This is a nonsequitur unless you can answer my question about the aforementioned case so we have a benchmark to measure other cases against. We don't even know what you consider being a mouthpiece.

So unless you can answer my specific questions directly, you are not really making any particular point other than an expression of some contempt you have for receiving information (be it true or false) from two kinds of messenger. I tell you this so you understand the grounds by which your position is being judged coherent and persuasive, or rather the grounds by which your position fails achieve either.

Is there a "lol democracy" tag?
Cena_mark
It's not like those flaky 2nd party candidates stand a chance anyhow.

kamlem
And here I was thinking the Guns N' Roses album was bad.
Enjoy
This is what Bernie Sanders and his supporters hope for one day. Venezuela eventually.
Miss Henson's 6th grade class
You're the Energizer bunny of dumb.

simon666
Enjoy, I'm having trouble following your logic. Do you mean because Bernie Sanders is a Socialist-Democrat and because people often equivocate between "socialism" and "communism" and because China is communist that therefore Bernie hopes for whatever obtains in China? Could you please elaborate?

Miss Henson's 6th grade class
Actually, Simon, I'd be fine if Enjoy didn't elaborate.

Enjoy
Socialism is the gateway drug to communism. Everybody knows that. SolRo and others around here are eagerly awaiting the day when they can be good communist party members that shut down any other voice.

Enjoy
And, by the way, the whole "dude socialism isn't communism" thing is a bit tired. Everyone sees through that.

simon666
You're making a hasty generalization. It's still not clear why Bernie Sanders or his supporters want a facsimilie of Chinese communism and not a mostly capitalistic republic with particular socialist spending policies.

I can grant that socialism = communism and my critique of your position still holds. It is unclear how you get from Bernie Sanders to an out and out endorsement of Chinese communism.

simon666
I'll add that suppression of speech and or denying a freedom of association, which is what we are looking at in this video, is something different than economic wealth distribution policies a particular government supports.

So you have a twofold task. Address the question above how to get logically from Bernie Sanders to Chinese communism, and how to get from Bernie Sanders to a necessary denial of free speech and freedom of association.
