NES version was the best, specifically the bundled cartridge which included DK Jr ("Donkey Kong Classics").

Nah boys, the ZX Spectrum version is best, with David's Kong being a close second.

As far as I'm concerned the Atari 400/800 version of Donkey Kong is the definitive home console version and will entertain no dissent on the issue.
