This trailer's nothing to write home about but movies don't get much better than Network.

What do you think it needs? Dropping bass? No wait--the Inception BWAAAAAAHHHMMMMM!!!

That guy - 2016-12-15
record scratch?

Old_Zircon - 2016-12-15
I can't put my finger on it, maybe it's just that the old one was a lot better despite a couple things that date it a little (the brief voiceover and the logo flashes).

It's interesting that they excised just about all of the most important political stuff that was in the original trailer, too.

This, "Being There", and "Wag the Dog" would make a hell of an introduction to the 21st century for space aliens and American proles alike.
Old_Zircon - 2016-12-15
I've got to see Wag The Dog again, because when it came out I remember being really disappointed and would put it more in the league of Bullworth than than of this and Being There.

Peter Finch warned us all, and then he promptly died because he knew we wouldn't listen and he didn't want to be around for this bullshit.

I saw this when I was 18 or 19 at some yuppy film school screening. It was like nothing I'd seen before. It blew my wig.

Thinking about it, it seems almost quaint. When the news was something that was shown on 2 or 3 local stations and 3 or 4 national stations every night. Yeah it was probably bullshit, but it was shared bullshit that served as a common reference frame.

Now the news is cell phone camera footage, funnelled through an NGO, tweeted, re-tweeted, aggregated with a new headline, and published in a feed along with fake stories from scammers in eastern Europe, Breitbart fever dreams, sponsored content, press releases, sensationalist clickbait, outrage clickbait, 'comedy' clickbait, ever more masturbatory clickbate, and always always people screaming every which way "I'm mad as hell and I'm not going to take it anymore" in the comments below.

Ah well, nostalgia for terrible times because you either escaped or no longer remember the bad parts is part of getting old. And this is just me adding my own rant to the howling ether. We're all Howard Beale now. Maybe it'll sort itself out. Maybe there's no escape.

Really good movie though.

Now people are as mad as hell that "Hilary ran a pedo ring out of a pizza parlor, and that Trump is being accused of lying and all kinds of bullshit".

That guy - 2016-12-16
"I'm as mad as hell that Trump's being falsely accused!"

Everyone talks about IDIOCRACY being the movie that we need to watch in 2016, but BOB ROBERTS and NETWORK are at least as salient and they're also much better movies.
