This shows a clip of Sonic the Hedgehog in 1987. The first Sonic game wasn't released until and the Sega Genesis wasn't even released until 1989. I wonder if there are even more inaccuracies here. Is this why you posted this, Waugh? To piss us off? If so then mission accomplished!

Cena_mark - 2016-12-18

Also that screen says "Autumn Greens Zone" which doesn't even exist. This must be a screen shot from some fan game. This is all wrong.

CIWB - 2016-12-19

Castlevania was first released in 1986, not 1984. Also, Secret of Mana was released in 1993, not 1991. Shenmue was released in 1999, not 1998.

The soundtrack is annoying, too.

EvilHomer - 2016-12-19

Apparently Morrowind was released in 2002. I am GENUINELY ashamed for not knowing that, as Bethesdascrolls is possibly my favorite video game series of all time.

My guess is that every one of these games was posted with the wrong date, although it would take the better part of the morning to research it all.

Waugh - 2016-12-19

yall dumb as shit

EvilHomer - 2016-12-19

It's true! We are. :(

I don't even know WHAT game 1985 is, let alone whether or not that is the correct year for it.

bopeton - 2016-12-18

Fake and gay

Doc Victor - 2016-12-19

The only thing that could possibly aggravate this website more than right wing politics; inaccurate video game history.

Sexy Duck Cop - 2016-12-19

They may think Breaking Bad and Game of Thrones are for mouth-breathing sheeple, but try telling them Grim Fandango and Psychonauts weren't that great and watch half the site go apopleptic.

EvilHomer - 2016-12-19

Honestly couldn't tell which years were wrong until near the very end - and I'm not sure whether to feel ashamed of that, or proud.

Maybe a mixture of both?

Mr. Purple Cat Esq. - 2016-12-19

@ SDC I agree with you about grim fandango and psychonauts. In terms of game design they are not good. I still love them because of the characters, atmosphere and story, but those are elements of other mediums, like film, theatre and literature.
'Game' was the wrong medium for them to be made in, it did not play to their strengths at all, and really the whole project was in opposition to the medium. They would have been much better as Pixar films.

Also, Has anyone else noticed that doublefine are actually shit? Apart from psychonauts all their games range from terrible to mediocre. They seem to have no game design chops at all.
Most of their oeuvre consists of, bafflingly bad, derivative, game with extremely charming, well executed, art style pasted on top.

Mr. Purple Cat Esq. - 2016-12-19

Also Breaking Bad and Game of Thrones *are* for mouth-breathing sheeple.

(Or decent people in a moment of weakness or hungoverness.)

EvilHomer - 2016-12-19

If Breaking Bad and GoT are for mouth-breathing sheeple, then what is an example of something for non-mouth-breathing sheeple?

Mr. Purple Cat Esq. - 2016-12-19

@ Evilholmes.
In terms of dramatic tv shows.. The wire, band of brothers, deadwood, das boot.

EvilHomer - 2016-12-19

Seen 'em all, and in my opinion none of them are as good as GoT or Breaking Bad (the last few seasons of BB notwithstanding).

I think the biggest problem is that a lot of premium shows wind up going on far too long, well past the point where the original writers have any kind of inspiration. Eventually a show will be run into the ground, so it's not really fair to compare a hoary-old dinosaur like Breaking Bad, which in its prime was indisputably the best show on streaming television, to, say, Band of Brothers, which was a moderately enjoyable hit that wisely chose to retire after only a couple of seasons.

Sexy Duck Cop - 2016-12-20

You know, it's totally fine to dislike a popular thing. I find Mad Men completely unwatchable, personally. But there's a difference between saying "It's not my thing" and "This universally acclaimed work beloved by critics and audiences alike is beneath my vast intellect." That's a hell of a claim to make, you know?

Mr. Purple Cat Esq. - 2016-12-20

@SDC Yeah. Though a hell of a claim isnt necessarily wrong.
...
Lets consider the music of Justin Bieber. Its safe to say it is incredibly popular, some of the most popular music in the history of humanity! and I imagine its netted plenty of awards and accolades in the media + from various music industry groups.
I think its also safe to say its artistically and intellectually barren, in every way. It + the whole Bieber media package simply presses the buttons of a certain cohort of society: young girls.
Imo game of thrones is like this, but to a lesser degree. People enjoy it, theres nothing *wrong* with enjoying it certainly, but that doesnt make it good art, or original, or interesting, or intelligent.

Gmork - 2018-08-20

Your analogy fell apart when you compared game of thrones to justin beiber.

Beiber is mediocre at what he does. GoT is competent as fuck at its storytelling and pretty much everything it does. Beiber is just focus grouped overproduced garbage. He's more of an extension of advertising agencies desires than an actual source of talent.

Game of thrones has merit beyond its popularity, and it does a HELL of a lot more than beiber's "yes, okay, fine, I agree this classifies as music" level of competency.

Gmork - 2018-08-20

I necro things because I love them.

That guy - 2016-12-19

back-facing polygons all up in this bitch

That guy - 2016-12-19

oh, I forgot

Ninehells - 2016-12-19

I dunno, I think 2012-2016 were spot on...

Gmork - 2016-12-19

lol

Mr. Purple Cat Esq. - 2016-12-19

Whats going on? Did Waugh have a mental breakdown or something?

Also, I like how 'FUCK YOU' is a linked tag :)

EvilHomer - 2016-12-19

I know, it's not like Waugh to say "fuck you" indiscriminately!

Xenocide - 2016-12-19

If the entire game industry reverts to Megaman 2 next year, I'm not complaining.

Waugh - 2016-12-19

homosexual in blue armor? no, thanks.

Gmork - 2016-12-19

he prefers dickgirls

EvilHomer - 2016-12-19

AGAIN with the transphobia!

Waugh - 2016-12-19

yeah what's even up with that

Xenocide - 2016-12-20

Megaman's a robot, fools. He can have any type of genitalia you want. Especially once he's collected them from the eight bosses.

Gmork - 2016-12-20

transphobia? i'm stating a fact - waugh has previously expressed interest in "sitting on girl dick"

Keep reachin', homer.

Waugh - 2016-12-20

he doesn't hate transsexuals people geez he just wants to shame others for liking them

Gmork - 2018-08-20

Exactly. Waugh gets it.

Gmork - 2018-08-20

Also, dude, transsexual is not the preferred nomenclature.

StanleyPain - 2016-12-19

The term "Evolution" when discussing art is kind of retarded considering that, despite the technology, anyone can make a game look like whatever the fuck they want, so what does it matter.

RedRust - 2016-12-19

This video certainly fulfills the purpose for which it was created.

Waugh - 2016-12-20

suomi

RedRust - 2016-12-20

I see what you did there.

Sexy Duck Cop - 2016-12-20

waugh why are you doing this

are you the final boss of undertale waugh

is this gonna turn into some metacommentary on agency and collective guilt in the kitty genovese murders

Waugh - 2016-12-20

'turn into'?
