It's true Solro, my old techniques for finding interesting stuff mostly yield unrelated top 5 lists, and a lot of 12 year olds (some of which are really strange, but I don't feel good about posting videos of kids who are probably in violation of youtube tos by even uploading).

Looking through my comment archives, which go back TWELVE GODDAMN YEARS (please end my life) I can safely say there has never been a time when we didn't have plenty of politics videos.

What we didn't have were people who were desperate to pick a fight over them.

Pretty much.

Poe-tv became a thing near the height of Iraq War arguments and Cheney Malfeasance and John Kerry being swiftboated and Tony Blair starting to go down in flames and Chretien strangling protesters and all the other political stories and controversies and slugfests of the mid-naughts.

We just had poe-tv to actually argue with each other and coin the phrase "fagdance" and scream in all-caps and have chet tell us to cool it down a bit, back then.

Even then, it was still more civil than today, but that's more a reflection of the polarization of political ideologies we're seeing globally and the culture wars going hotter than they've ever been and all that, really, more than anything else.

I generally just avoid any website where the drama gets out of hand for anything between a few weeks and forever, then come back (hopefully) when things die down.

This is why I honestly think we need a poe-news replacement forum, where we can actually discuss shit a bit more comprehensively than the comments section in a video can manage, and talk about news stories that aren't contained within a video clip.

54evil is probably my most promising contender, of all of them out there, we just need more people to come sign up there and start posting. Exy is an excellent (ho ho) owner/admin, and I think we could do as well there, civility-wise, as we could ever pray for on the internet these days.

Please, check it out, and give it some thought. It might be the pressure valve we need to help out poetv, and to fill a void I'm guessing we've all been feeling for a few years now.

Not to pick a fight here :P, but that's always been the case here and all the way back to poe-red.

What has happened is that we've all gotten older, crustier and lazier and the political trolling of the submitters/responders has become the easy route to the front page and 1/5-star-wars. How about as a community we just can the political shit/downvote it consistently?

Upvote the weird/amazing shit, leave the tumblr/chan politics in their respective holes because it's mundane and can be found literally everywhere else, whereas this place once had a unique eye for stuff that wasn't in the mainstream.

I don't think a total ban on any videos related to politics is a good thing, particularly given how evil/insane/bizarre some of them can be.

But I think we do need to police ourselves better when it comes to taking bait and giving trolls what they want, which is huge stupid fucking arguments that never end. God knows, I'm far from perfect in this regard, but I do try. I'll try harder, from now on.

As long as you don't feed the trolls, videos on political/societal/ideological subjects are as valid as any other...to be judged on the quality of their content, just like all the non-political/societal/ideological-based videos.

Seriously though, overlooking it is what we've all been doing for years and the gamergoober/4chan 'old man yells at cloud' content has only increased in quantity as it has lowered in quality.

I will admit I am one of the worst when it comes to arguing about politics. But here's how it looks from my perspective: it's not just the Right that Swiftboats the Democrats these days, the Left is in on it too, and unless people stand up against that the Trumps will keep winning. Are the voting habits of PoeTV visitors likely to change any major elections? Not really. Does that mean I should let the Swiftboating go on without comment? I have a big problem with that.

I'm not the one posting political videos in general because I don't want this place to be a war zone, but if you bring it, I have to stand up for what's right. That's how I see it.
