I've said it before and I'll say it again:

Weapon bans are almost universally horseshit.

They're written by legislators who know even less about firearms than you do because they don't even watch TV or play video games to absorb a retard-level understanding of guns. What winds up happening is they ban specific guns and features based on purely COSMETIC criteria because it looks or sounds scary. The 94 AWB is a prime example of legislation that did exactly nothing to curb certain weapons because it's poorly constructed law, irregardless of whether or not you think the guns should be banned. All it does is keep certain things out of the hands of collectors and people with a hard on for the authentic versions of things. What it doesn't do is prevent anyone from owning a weapon with that exact functionality and configuration.

People who are literally too stupid to tie their own shoes know all the loopholes that allow them to legally own guns that should fall under the ban but are legal because of a tiny plastic cross-member here (pistol grips), or a barrel lug that is pinned instead of threaded there (removable flash hiders).

In the end, you get the BATF judging what's legal and what isn't on a razor thin case by case basis that changes on a whim and sends people to federal prison for the rest of their lives over being caught with something that would have been totally fine a week ago or if it was a different agent who was in a slightly better mood.

What you describe Nappy is a compromise between people who want to legitimately ban all assault type rifles and people who want to keep them all legal. Rather than ignorance, it sounds to be a catalog of carefully crafted exceptions and loopholes. You should be proud of your NRA membership dollars, they were working hard. I doubt anyone is too happy with the results, but there you go.
