Make sure to submit your editorial for the other tragedy that took place on the same day. Looking forward to it, because I know you care about people, A LOT.

SolRo - 2017-03-26

Let me guess, a non-white person did something bad, thus confirming your utter hatred of ALL non-white people?

15th - 2017-03-26

You're a phony.

SolRo - 2017-03-26

So you gonna inform us alt-racists LIEbruls about whatever it is you're being stupid about, or are you expecting us to google whatever stormfront 'minority anti-white crimes' graph you have printed out poster-sized and hung on your wall?

15th - 2017-03-26

Happened the same day as the London attack. Pretty obscure, maybe brietbert ran a piece on it.

My point is, in a world of 7+ billion people and 24hr news, reactionaries use deranged acts of violence as fodder. If you were genuine, you'd rail against Islam the same way you do the alt right. Therefore, you're a phony, playing it safe.

I disagree with both ideologies, but I don't believe in silencing ideas with violence, because I'm a class act.

SolRo - 2017-03-26

oh suck my dick.

you don't rail against islam. you rail against brown people that follow islam.

you got no problem whatsoever against perfect Aryan stereotypes that follow islam.

15th - 2017-03-26

>>you don't rail against islam

>> you rail against brown people that follow islam.

>>you got no problem whatsoever against perfect Aryan stereotypes that follow islam.

You 100% just made that up.

SolRo - 2017-03-26

all the abrahamic religions preach violence against non-believers.

I don't see you ranting against 'violent christainity' or 'violent judiasim'. Just islam. Wonder what specific trait of islam that disturbs your jimmies so...oh, yeah, all the brown people following it.

Bort - 2017-03-26

"If you were genuine, you'd rail against Islam the same way you do the alt right."

Are you saying the whole of Islam can be legitimately compared to the Alt Right? Clarification is called for.

As for SolRo, he's bringing this up because he feels people were too forgiving of the Alt Right a few weeks back when punching of Nazis was the question of the day. (I still think punching them just for speaking is jumping the gun, but you're certainly allowed to punch them long before they set out to commit murder.)

15th - 2017-03-26

Bort, I'd say both casually call for the oppression of people outside of their male adherents. At their extreme ends they both can be an existential threat to people's lives.

If this news story is a call to "fash bash," the other murders that day just as easily lend themselves as a reason to stop Muslim immigration. I think both of those ideas are misguided. But, if I saw the world like Solro, it'd intellectually dishonest to only support one - the easy one.

15th - 2017-03-26

>>I don't see you ranting against 'violent christainity' or 'violent judiasim'. Just islam. Wonder what specific trait of islam that disturbs your jimmies so...oh, yeah, all the brown people following it.

I can't remember ever ranting against any religions. Outside of self defense, I am against violence, absolutely. It was just a coincidence two ideologically motivated murders happened the same day. It's not a coincidence which one you ran with.

Maybe both murders were just fucking nuts, and there isn't a deep lesson to be learned.

kingofthenothing - 2017-03-26

Keep on teaching the controversy. Yeah, that'll work. Alt-right is to "Nazi" as "Intelligent Design" is to Creationism. Same shit, different name.

Bort - 2017-03-26

"Bort, I'd say both casually call for the oppression of people outside of their male adherents. At their extreme ends they both can be an existential threat to people's lives."

The Alt-Right is expressly about oppressing people. While I do agree there are problems with misogyny and xenophobia in the Muslim world -- also in the Christian world and even the atheist world -- oppression is not the fundamental message in Islam.

You're doing a shitty job of differentiating between Islam as a whole and the actions of its worst members. Should I judge all white Americans by the KKK?

memedumpster - 2017-03-26

Two more shootings happened in the last 24 hours, so really, can anyone expect to keep up with all of them? Everyone needs to just keep up with the ones they approve of.

SolRo, a white male, will obviously favor the ones that promote sexism, racism, and the oppression of minorities, so why even argue when all he deserves is a nazi punch to the face, the loss of his income, and the loss of his property at the hands of progressive rioters? Lest we forget, people of his race created the complete gestalt of evil in the world. As a white male demon myself, though, never take my word on this, but the word of a superior race.

https://archive.fo/kpjIG/e8a79ca1246ad6955332b9dba2e69fe1f03bd e88.jpg

Huh, so forced categorization based on race makes being a reg-lefty / alt-righty pretty darned easy, one can effortlessly see why other racists also do it. A lifetime spent judging people the hard way and all this time both the right and the left offered me a simpler heuristic.

All the white males of poe are inferior, kill yourselves so the superior human races can survive your plague of evil. Otherwise, you deserve terrorism.

Whew, so easy! Now the whole day is free.

Old_Zircon - 2017-03-26

"The African American community is highly religious and not very tolerant of what Christian dogma tells them is evil (see tyler perry)"

-SolRo earlier this morning, a few submissions down the front page.

bac - 2017-03-26

Hey 15th remember when that white Canadian killed a bunch of Muslims in that mosque a couple months back? Yeah was he a terrorist? Should we as a country be worried about white Christian terrorists or just the brown Muslim ones?

alitheiathricechastened - 2017-03-26

so your response is literally "whataboutism". "But "whatabout" that other terrist attack that were did by that brown guy? This is all you have to contribute. Man, who the fuck invited you and the other alt-right dumbshits to this site? This used to be a good video link aggregator. Take your shit back to 4chan, kiddo.

bac - 2017-03-26

Don't let the bastards get you down alitherestofyournamehere.

Monkey Napoleon - 2017-03-26

Being appalled by mob violence isn't really an alt-right stance.

Also, who the fuck are you again?

Old_Zircon - 2017-03-26

15th's argument is too flawed for me to be able to really defend it as such, but it's also pretty clearly neither anti-Islam nor alt-right (or even really on a left-right partisan spectrum as such). Shining light on someone's ideological blind spots doesn't mean you don't have your own, but it also doesn't mean that what you're pointing out doesn't exist.

Old_Zircon - 2017-03-26

The main problem with the arguments in this thread is that the right and the left are absolutely not the same, and the very real problems on the left are not even close to ground for drawing a bullshit "they're all the same maaan" false equivalency.

15th - 2017-03-26

Fair enough, I'm not the best at putting brain words into people words. The right and left are miles apart, morally. No question. My main argument was against what I perceive as a convienent, self serving morality. I don't think either party has an absolute monopoly on that. Both sides tend to cherry pick whatever allows them to hate the largest bloc of people. Justifiably, of course.

bac - 2017-03-26

I am pissed that radical Muslims kill people because their version of God tells them to. I can also be pissed that Christian white supremacists do it to.

But at the end of the day, I can't really speak to the members of those groups and expect them to change their ideologies.

What I can speak to is the inherent problem of a government and a large chunk of the American population that chooses to ignore one of those groups all while trying to pass un-american laws that target over a billion godamn people the world over.

We fucking went to war over that bullshit. It is utterly dangerous.

Old_Zircon - 2017-03-26

15th, I'm confident I know what you were going for from talking to you outside of PoeTV, so my criticism was aimed squarely at your argument as presented, not your opinions about this stuff at large (unless I'm deeply mistaken about your opinions, in ways I'm pretty sure I'm not, of course), just for the record.

My stance is that between a rich, out of touch but smart, center-left white lady who isn't going to bring about any major change on her own but is a professional politician who could be pressured into doing the right things at least half-assedly vs. a literally mentally ill puppet put in place by a far-right, nationalist extremist who is butting heads with his own party not because his rhetoric is radically different from their platform but because he's too incompetent and toxic to actually act on it without major harm to their careers, and is actually saying in public the stuff that the GOP has known enough to only say euphemistically since the 60s. But don't be fooled, Trump's publicly stated goals are pretty much mainstream GOP platform stuff, just reframed in the most lunkheaded, unsubtle way possible. If Trump could keep his mouth shut and Bannon weren't pulling the strings in the whitehouse, this administration would be the biggest win for the GOP in decades, and if Trump is impeached or something we'll be in trouble, because Pence is not going to make the same mistakes. The only things that make having Trump in office worse than Pence are the real possibility that he's dumb enough and Bannon is sociopathic enough to start a nuclear war, and the fact that while Trump is in there the rest of the administration and the GOP in general can shift all of the accountability onto him for rubber stamping a bunch of shit they've been trying to push through for literally generations in some cases.

If Trump's going to be taken out of office it needs to be for a crime that implicates his entire cabinet, otherwise it's just cutting a head off of a hydra.

cognitivedissonance - 2017-03-26

Remember that guy who was going to assassinate Obama in a white tuxedo?

Cousin of mine.

Bort - 2017-03-26

I bet John Wilkes Booth was well-dressed too. It's the mark of an assassin who's proud of his work.

Meerkat - 2017-03-26

Kind of a stretch goal; I very much doubt you would often see Obama in a white tuxedo.

kingofthenothing - 2017-03-26

cog - I lived in Florida for years, and saw a lot of the stupid racist b.s. while Obama was in office just down there. They'd probably try something like that but A. they're too lazy to travel that far north and B. they'd get lost on the way.

There used to be really horrible political bulletin boards, like one had Obama's face on a Ten Trillion Dollar Bill. Real subtle, that was.

There were a lot of people talking like "It's called the WHITE House for a reason!" and people genuinely expecting and hoping he would get assassinated the first day or week of office.

cognitivedissonance - 2017-03-26

His plan, as stated to the FBI honeypot agent he was fabulating this with, was to kill as many people as possible wearing the white tuxedo before killing Obama, so as to allow it to be preserve as a Blutfahne for future white supremacists, soaked in the blood of his vanquished.

I heard his last name, place of origin, called my grandmother, she verified he was a second cousin, and have chuckled about it ever since. He's going to be in prison for a long time, the FBI got every word of it, and he probably got played to spin this fantasy as well.

Bort - 2017-03-26

Sketch or it didn't happen.

bac - 2017-03-26

The narrative coming from Republicans is we must do all we can to protect Americans from the threat of terrorism. They say this as long as that threat is brown skinned and not the religion they keep shoving down America's collective throats.

Meanwhile white Christian Americans terrorize other Americans and it's damn near mums the fucking word. Is the take away from that, it's OK because this threat is American? is it OK because they're white? is it OK because they're Christian?

Like I'm seriously asking because I don't fucking know.

SolRo - 2017-03-26

Christian violence is just a "mental health" issue. Move along. Nothing to see here.

bac - 2017-03-26

I think part of the problem is no one, Fucking No One (except Colin godamn Powell) said "you know it wouldn't matter even if Obama was a Muslim". OK that's not remotely the biggest problem here it just still really pisses me off that, the discussion in regards to that idiot viewpoint wasn't people saying " it literally doesn't matter if he's Muslim".

And yes I know that would have killed his chance to be President. Muslim or not, but it still has reverberating effects.

Nominal - 2017-03-26

So stuff like this will happen unless Nazi punching happens.

Except Nazi punching did happen, and this happened too.

Old_Zircon - 2017-03-26

Punch everyone, let God sort 'em out.

Scrotum H. Vainglorious - 2017-03-27

Gee I wonder who he voted for.
