Holy shit you weren't exaggerating (0:48)
SolRo
PS. Holy shit this is going to have terrible writing, you can tell from that goofy-ass plot device alien crew member.

BHWW
The writing sounds like it's all going to be a bunch of meaningless "deep" sounding dialogue spliced together

SolRo
Also missing the 'lens flare' tag
godot
About to type "lens flare, engage"

So is this in the "Prime" universe or the JJverse? I heard it was supposed to be prime, but from the looks of this it's the JJverse or another reboot entirely.

I actually have enjoyed the JJverse movies, so I am cautiously optimistic.
SolRo
How gloriously trolly would it be to have dry discussions of federation laws and principles backed up by copious JJ lens flare?

StanleyPain
Considering they're using the Abrams-verse Klingons, I assume it's reboot continuity?

The show that Bryan Fuller bailed on and Michael Dorn refused to be in.

Look out TNG season 1, there's a new Jim Shimoda in town and he's clapping like a child with your isolinear chips already.

I am stoked for this transporter accident of a show.
godot
Needs more work of the facial animations, methinks.

My idea for a Prime universe series:

Takes place 30 years after the Dominion wars. Follows a group of young cadets through Starfleet academy. Halfway through the first season, the Dominion joins the Federation. Suddenly, the academy is flooded with purpose-cloned Jem Hadar, Vorta and changelings. The show is about how Starfleet, its officers and its politicians deal with a massive influx of former Dominion species within their ranks. Can these new officers be trusted? What will Starfleet look like when half or more of its officers are Jem Hadar bred specifically to be Starfleet officers? Maybe Federation traditionalists will start a new Maquis movement? With Section 31's blessing? Perhaps Humans will begin dabbling in Eugenics again? I would love another show that gets deep into Federation politics like DS9 did. I would also love to finally see the Starfleet indoctrination process from the perspective of new recruits.

My guess is that the Discovery will be about space terrorists and their superweapons.
memedumpster
I would watch the hell out of it.

garcet71283
They already made space terrorists and super weapons, it was called "Enterprise"

This one will obviously be space-Trump, space-gamergate and Klingon Lives Matter.

StanleyPain
It's a present day, network TV sci-fi show. It will be about who wants to fuck who and then some lasers and stuff in the season finale.

Maggot Brain
I can only see that being one story arch. Let's talk about the sexy, young cadets.

memedumpster
I am betting there will be an oversexed shape-shifter. I am hoping there will be two.

garcet71283
Place your bets on who the screen-acceptable lesbians will be!

Maggot Brain
this took five years to make

Rodenberry spinning in his grave could power a federation cruiser by now.

why is it so goddamn MURKY
Nikon
Mass Effect Andromeda of Trek.

I kept waiting for Riker to walk onscreen, say "end program", and chastise Barclay for screwing around with the holodeck again.
Two Jar Slave
I kinda like the look of it, but I'm not optimistic about the quality of the stories.
garcet71283
To me, it looks too expensive to sustain. Probably going to be bullshit 8 episode seasons. (you know, 8 episodes total for the whole show...)

betamaxed
Doesn't look any worse than the last two worm infested piles of wet horse shit movies.
StanleyPain
Beyond was actually not bad. It was not truly "Star Trek" by any means, but it was nice that it was a sci-fi movie set pretty much on its own without using the original show as a crutch (like ST: Into Reference) Surprisingly well written and made. And, of course, we'll probably never see another one since it only made a kajillion dollars instead of a bizjillion.
