If it's not already clear what's happening here, the Senate is in full meltdown mode, unable to pass the signature legislation that the Republican Party has been passing in the House and Senate for the past seven years. SOMETHING was needed to compete with that train-wreck of a headline, on the day of the failed voting. This was his solution. It worked, after a fashion, because here we are talking about it.

Raggamuffin - 2017-07-27

I think you're giving him too much credit. Trump's a bully who's not getting his way, so he needs to lash out.

Meerkat - 2017-07-27

He was watching Fox and someone came on and spouted a bunch of bigoted lies about how transgenders were forcing the military to build gender neutral bathrooms in their trenches while enslaving children into sexual slavery where they were forced to make pizzas and then Tucker Carlson came on and said they should all be shoved into lockers and given swirlies and then that guy that buys medals off eBay and wears them every time he spots a camera came on and said transgenders should be banned from breathing oxygen and Trump went OOoh that'll help my approval rating with other fucktards!

Old_Zircon - 2017-07-27

Yeah, trump has no strategy. The GOP let him flail around like this because it does, in fact, provide some cover for them to attempt to get their privatization and disenfranchisement agenda underway but that doesn't mean this isn't pure, simple malice and bigotry on Trump's part.

Mr. Purple Cat Esq. - 2017-07-27

@Oscar Wildcat Can u explain all that senate business? I'm curious now.

jangbones - 2017-07-27

It's been difficult and chaotic but significant health care repeal can still pass. There is a mountain of pressure on every GOP senator and representative to give the richest Americans tax cuts, from the only people that matter, their donors. They are desperate to pass it, no matter how unpopular it is, no matter how much damage it causes the economy, no matter how many people lose healthcare.

If healthcare passes, the GOP will continue to let Trump's meltdown continue unpunished.

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2017-07-27

Like any good clown, when Trump trips over his comically oversized shoes, he makes it look like part of the act.

Monkey Napoleon - 2017-07-28

@jang: I dunno. It seems like a pretty bad sign that the GOP can't even scrape together the votes for procedural chicanery on the subject. It's starting to look like it doesn't have a chance in hell of passing in it's current form.

Oscar Wildcat - 2017-07-28

This was the big week: three separate bills were voted on. First, Trump/McConnell Care. That failed, to no one's surprise. Next, full repeal of Obamacare. That bill passed the House something like six times in the previous years. It too failed. Finally, a bill that just cuts the most unpopular and questionable parts of Obamacare. I am told as of right now it has expired like a wet beer fart.

There isn't much to explain here. Just a big orange pile of fail.

Maggot Brain - 2017-07-28

This week has been awesome thing classical sense of the word, horrible and amazing all at once. There is a sizable portion of hard Right Wingers that are super pissed at Trump right now for belittling Jeff Sessions.Apparently going after a man who "fights gangs" and "stands up for free speech" wasn't a cool thing to do. Then the Boy Scouts have to apologize for the President's which is kind of like all those alter boys apologizing to the Pope. Next he puts a guy who acts like he's on Meth out on TV to speak on his behalf. From what I gather this has also not gone over well with the right, the only people really liking Scaramucci are the alt-right trolls, whom have taken to calling him Mochi-Sama. No shock there. Yesterday you have the twitter announcement regarding Transgender soldiers, It's kind of hard to explain this one but it's easy to understand Trump won because he locked the white male vote, and by that I mean ALL THE WHITE MALES in about half a dozen states, like that weird nod to the gay community at the GOP was aimed at making sure that gay white men would at lest not vote for Hillary and now you've pissed of a bunch of gay white males who won't vote for you next time around. Also did he forget that he took that picture with the Rainbow flag? And how has this gone over on the right? meh~ I read some bull shit article on how banning Transgender soldiers was good for negative liberty but other wise they don't care. Which has always been the mainstream attitude to these issues. Finally, to top off the week he could get the legislative to pass a health care bill that the passed seven times before, how embarrassing. Maybe next time he can get into a time machine and stop him self from saying those things about McCain. I've know people have said a lot of things about John McCain this week but in the end he is a man of principle, and that principle is don't fuck with John McCain! You know who I envy at the end of this Sean Spicer, who is probably out walking his little froofy, enjoying a grilled cheese sandwich with the crust cut off, not giving a fuck about any of this.

Maggot Brain - 2017-07-28

Aaaaaaaaand Reince is out! still two more days left in the week, folks!

Space Odin - 2017-07-29

Also, let's remember that TONY THE MOOCH's wife just left him over this shit. That's right, ladies, AYYYYY AYYYY! TONY COCKS is back on the fuckin' prowl.

Nominal - 2017-07-27

If there's one government organization that dislikes spending too much, it sure is the military.

Cena_mark - 2017-07-27

With the 3 or 4 million to pay for their treatments it's absurd to even consider this a financial matter. This is just distraction and cowtowing to the religious right.
Last month my unit had it's people do training for accepting and knowing the rights of transgender members. This for now is just a tweet. Don't know if real action will follow.

Old_Zircon - 2017-07-27

Read this at work today, and it's a very good counterargument to the "just a distraction" line. Certainly changed my mind.

jfcaron_ca - 2017-07-27

While I'm glad the Canadian military accepts LGBT folks, I am annoyed at the homo-nationalist response from Canadians on twitter.

Two Jar Slave - 2017-07-27

Loudly proclaiming our moral superiority to the United States has been a central tenet of Canadian identity dating all the way back to that grubby coup they tried to pass off as a revolution.

jfcaron_ca - 2017-07-27

I know, and it keeps us from identifying & dealing with the real problems in Canadian society. There's no trophy for "not being last".

Two Jar Slave - 2017-07-27

By the same token, if we fail to celebrate our successes we're just begging to have them quietly taken away.

Surely there's room in our cultural identity for both smug self-satisfaction and anxious self-loathing?

Carrot, meet stick.

garcet71283 - 2017-07-27

The real problems? You mean Molson and Poutine?

Two Jar Slave - 2017-07-27

Poutine is only a problem if you want to live past fifty-five.

Rafiki - 2017-07-27

Well if Canada's going to act all smug, I guess I'll just cross it off the list of places I'll threaten to move to every election.

Meerkat - 2017-07-27

Poutine is fine in moderation, just don't eat it for every meal and you'll be fine.

Old_Zircon - 2017-07-27

My first poutine experience was when we were in a small town outside Quebec late at night and the only place that was open at all was the late night poutine place, so it probably wasn't a very accurate representation of what quality poutine was like, but it was enough that I am permanently scarred and will never go near the stuff again.

Donair, on the other hand...

TeenerTot - 2017-07-27

I think my favorite part of this crapfest is that Caitlyn Jenner is *surprised* by it.
Oh, Caitlyn.

Maggot Brain - 2017-07-27

in other Cheap bastard news Trump announced that he will be donating $100,000 to the Department of Education but only after proposing $9.2 billion cut in funding to the department.

Did you see the GIANT CHECK he handed the park ranger?

Curb Your Enthusiam's "Frolic"

StanleyPain - 2017-07-27

Good luck getting this past The Joint Chiefs of Staff and the Pentagon. When those two bodies gave up the fight, I'm pretty sure they don't want this re-litigated again.

Nominal - 2017-07-27

Twitter overrides everything.

15th - 2017-07-27

Many of you will likely be surprised to learn that I am not a lawyer, but wouldn't banning people from military service based on sexual identity be mucho unconstitutional?

SolRo - 2017-07-27

In other news the trump justice department is arguing in court that sexual orientation is okay to discriminate against

garcet71283 - 2017-07-27

Lets just be honest with ourselves everyone, this is our all-time favorite president.

Rage on the internet is all we desire and he provides it freely.

cognitivedissonance - 2017-07-27

Pretty sure this will be walked back, like most Trump fiats. It was clear to me that he's frustrated he didn't have a healthcare bill to sign and he's desperate for some sort of gravity. Mattis was on vacation, he doesn't quite understand the reality of removing 15,000 active soldiers from the rolls during wartime, let alone how to deal with the fallout from denying them benefits due to General Discharge.

That said, the religious right are the only people giving him Warm Fuzzies right now, so expect him to tack in that direction.

jangbones - 2017-07-27

if he fires Sessions, he will definitely lose a few evangelicals

Old_Zircon - 2017-07-27

There's starting to be some talk that there may have been discussion about military healthcare dropping coverage of transition care for budgetary reason, because it was projected to cost over $5,000,000 (which is a bullshit argument, as this 2015 article notes http://fortune.com/2015/08/13/transgender-military-cost/ but still a very different discussion than what Trump tweeted) and Trump simply didn't understand the issue.

dairyqueenlatifah - 2017-07-27

Nope, this totally isn't an intentional distraction. No siree.

threerow - 2017-07-27

what a time to be alive. imagine explaining this to someone from the 80s or 90s. Hell, 5 years ago.

Old_Zircon - 2017-07-27

Well, if it was the 80s most of them would probably be OK with this, regardless of political affiliation.

memedumpster - 2017-07-28

"You see, Billy, for hundreds of years we had presidents who were war criminals, imperialists, and authoritarian dictators. Then, we elected one that is also very stupid, cutting America's ability to fuck the world by 90%. We never went back and that's why a squirrel is president right now."

"But we're at war with the sky."

"And as far as president squirrel knows, we're winning."

Just gonna say it's a reply to the above before I hit post and it fails to reply position it.

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2017-07-29

For you, Mr Dumpster.
