Don is no 4d chess player, but he is quite capable of these kinds of moves. His whole MO is to create a lot of chaos and controversy to distract from the relevant issues.

What is really surprising to me is, at this late point in the game, how could it not be apparent to everyone that working for or with this guy will end in your disaster? Many do, which is why his whitehouse remains largely unstaffed. But this idiot was willing to sell his business and break up his marriage for what? A weeks work?

I think so. He was more recently himself in the sequel to Wall Street (Oliver Stone not Martin Scorcese), and paid for them to use his investment firm in it, so I'm assuming he was at least a celebrity in financial circles and possibly a Bloomberg Pinup-of-the-Month.
