A lot of young people got their their first taste of a 35 dollar game turning out to be a 335+ dollar game. Video cards were now an integral part of gaming and cost a shitload more than they do now when you factor inflation. For example I remember the Voodoo 3's retailing for around 350 USD. Ya didn't pay, ya didn't play. I didn't even play have of these games until a decade later because I simply could not afford the upgrades.
I remember buying a voodoo 5 (I think), last of the generation (I think)...and it was the most awesome thing ever. It was still just a green PCB card, like they all were back then, but is had FIVE COOLING FANS! FIVE! What a time to be alive!
